I've always seen the star post, some times with single rubber rings on it, sometimes looped around the posts behind it.

That post is correct…. a lot of people replace with a cliffy post sleeve to make it easier to make the loops
Thanks to all for the feedback. It sounds like the star post is factory but it can be modified to suit the player.
Also, I have a question concerning the left bank of targets (the bank that you can only see the red and half the yellow target in the pic). Is there a metal cap that goes over the top of these targets? Mine doesn't have a cap but I have seen it in the HEP pictures.
