Thanks Den.
It might be a while before I can play it. All of the rubbers are so dry-rotted, they're just crumbling into dust.
It's next of my shop job list.
Just checked my game.
The software is Rev. p-c
Looks like I need to order some more game ROMs from John.
From the looks of things, rev l-2 seems to be the most popular.
I just started my shop job on my Getaway.
I noticed the cover plate over the shooter lane is just painted black.
Has anyone created a decal for this?
IMO, anything would look better than just the black paint.
MustangPaul,
I really appreciate all of the input you've done on this post.
I plan on installing all of the lighting mods you've done on Getaway.
Where did you find the lamp sockets for the 2 lamps you installed?
I cant find any lamp sockets that match the stock ones. The stock socket brackets appear to be 5/16ths tall. The closest match I could find is 1/2 inch tall.
I've been busy shopping my Getaway since picking it up on 9/3.
As usual, with most of my shop jobs, I tend to go a little over-board.
I've spent the last 3 days, (19 hours total) measuring/designing/machining my playfield plastic protector set for Getaway. 12 pieces in all.
After working on my turbo ramp for almost 14 hours, it's almost ready to be re-installed. All opto switches have been replaced. 2 of the 3 steel ramp sections are new. New ramp plap installed. Steel ramp components have all been re-grained and polished.
I've installed my plastic protectors on the ramp sign plastics, (both pieces). I wound up installing 1/8 inch spacers in place of the 1/4 inch spacers on the sign assembly. Using the 1/4 inch spacers, along with my protectors, the 2 lamps were set too far back. I didn't like the looks of it. Using 1/8 spacers brought the lamps forward a bit, which looked a lot better IMO.
Thanks MustangPaul.
I plan on using a lot of the lighting mods you've come up with for The Getaway...(or slight variations of your ideas).
I didn't see the post on the red LED strip. Is that the one with the long strip mounted inside the turbo ramp?
I'm going to light the ramp entry w/ a blue LED strip like you did. Also plan on mounting 1 or 2 &LED strips on top of the backboard to light the back of the PF, under the turbo ramp. Plan on adding LED strips to the tachometers on top of the slings. Plan on mounting a spot light, (shining up) below the mountain plastic on the turbo ramp. Doing a full LED install, (flashers too). I've already machined my PF plastic protector set.
Not sure I'm going to go w/ the leg light-ups.
Where did you find the thin width LED strip?
I'd like to get some of that for a mod I'm thinking about doing to Getaway.
Quoted from MustangPaul:Cool. The red ramp led strip make the racetrack light up way cool along with the red domes on the charger. I think it gives the impression that as the ball is going around it's going soooo fast that the metal starts to heat and glow red. My leg light-up are gonna look cool on the game too. I gots a good imagination. There's a new mod that will be coming from a well known Pinsider that I'm testing that's really neat and should be out in a few weeks that would look great on Getaway. I'll post more when I'm allowed.
I posted this earlier today....
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/getaway-which-is-the-correct-rubber-ring-install
Mine has that post.
Quoted from jawjaw:Indy - those mirrored strips look awesome. Where did you get them?
I bought them at a local plastic company.
I'm finally starting to put my Getaway back together.
I noticed in this thread, that the wiring harness for the supercharger ramp is routed above/behind the PF backboard....
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/hs2-supercharger-removal-tutorial
My wiring harness is routed thru the hole in the upper left corner of the PF. Which was is correct?
I've also noticed that my Getaway is missing this ball trap bracket...
http://www.marcospec.com/control/keywordsearch?SEARCH_STRING=01-10904
Does anyone have any pics showing where/how this is installed?
My Getaway is coming back together. Unlike my usual shop jobs...I'm adding a TON of additional lighting. I've added LED light strips under the gauges on both slingshots. I added a LED strip to the out hole, lighting up the area between the flippers. I added a light strip under the "Drive 65" plastic and a spot light in the same area, shining towards the supercharger ramp. I also add a purple LED strip in the rear playfield area, (that area is normally very dark). I also lit up the red saucer kick-out plate. These are SOME of the lights I've added...2 more to go. I have to stop for now...ran out of heat-shrink tubing....doh!
Thanks guys.....
I'm not sure, just yet, about lighting the flipper buttons. I've had intentions of lighting the flipper buttons on several of my pins...just have never gotten around to it.
Getaway might be my first...LOL
I was thinking about doing that...but I'll have to order more from Comet. I think they are out of stock though on the white 7 LED strips.
I just ordered the Donut Heaven mod, (unlit version from BAA).
Does anyone have the install instructions? I plan on installing an LED strip to mine.
Quoted from Tmezel:I'm pretty sure it already has the LED installed in it.
According to the BAA description, it has no LED included.
I just wired up a 12 volt LED strip from Comet to the flasher, and used a 2-pin disconnect plug as well.
I have a question for all you Getaway experts....
Some quick back-ground info 1st:
I'm doing a full-blown shop job on my Getaway. I've never played a single game on this pin, even after making this purchase., (there were several broken rubbers on this pin when I bought it).
I drove right into this shop-job.
I'm adding a bunch of additional lighting.
Now to my question...
I'm wanting to add a 12 volt LED strip, (Comet) to one of the flashers on the PF. Is there a particular flasher that ONLY fires when the magnets are energized on the turbocharger ramp?
I'm wanting to place this 12 volt strip to the under-side of the ramp somewhere to add more flashing during this particular "mode" of the game. I'm debating whether to add one, or maybe 2 to that particular PF flasher...but wondering if 2 added strips would put too much strain on that particular flasher circuit.
Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.
I think you're right on this.
From what little online video I've watched...those flashers seem to go off at other times during gameplay as well.
It would great if there is a flasher or 2 that ONLY flashed during the ball acceleration. That's my intention...to add a flasher strip that will fire only when that phase of the game is active.
I thought about doing the same thing on my pin MustangPaul.
With all of the additional lighting I'm adding...I think I'll already have to wear sunglasses when I play...LOL
I appreciate all of the previous posts you've contributed to this thread...it's what's given me my ideas on the additional lighting...though some of my add-ons are slight variations from you had done.
I'll post pics of mine, once the machine is fully reassembled.
Another question....
I recently purchased the mountain mod for this pin...great addition, IMO.
Has anyone done any additional painting to their mountain plastic? I'm looking for ideas on how to make it look a little better than the stock paint job that is on there now.
Quoted from Mancave:Where did you get hold of one of those??
I found the guy on an OLD getaway thread...the thread about the keyed ignition switch.
I'm getting to the final stages in my Getaway reassembly.
Just noticed the reproduction PF plastic set is missing one of the plastics, (the piece that goes into the far left corner of the PF).
hhhmmm
I'm trying to locate the double ring steel post for my Getaway. This is the one with the longer male thread on top. Does anyone have one they'd sell?
http://bayareaamusements.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=MP-02-4423-1
Thanks for posting the pics of your mountain....looks great !!!
I'd like to do something similar to mine before installing.
What paints/colors did you use?
My Getaway was missing that bracket.
Thanks to the pinside people who pointed me in the right direction.
Here's a really nice mod I've come up with on my Getaway.
I really didn't like how the stoplight housing lit up when each of the lamps are lit.
I designed/machined some light barriers for the outside walls of the stoplight housing.
No more glowing stoplight housing !!!
I made these using 2mm black ABS sheet, (one side has a texture). These slide right in, and stay in place when assembled. No need for adhesives.
As you can see in the pic, I also installed the colored flex LEDs from comet. I wanted to put the light source a little closer to the stoplight inserts.
The last few pics were taken w/o flash to show there's no light seepage.
Quoted from mof:Who wouldn't want this light bleed to stop - genius idea.
Thanks mof
If the paper don't cut it...I can make these plastic ones for you. They fit like a glove...fits the draft angles of the injection molded housing really well, and light won't get thru this plastic.
Installing the flex LEDs helps too. It places the light source closer to the inserts...really lights em up.
I thought about using paint, but I figured it would take several coats of paint to obtain the amount of light blockage that these inserts provide. Besides, painting would be a non-reversible mod, so I decided to go this route. If the next owner doesn't like it, they can easily remove these panels.
I had to think of a mod that MustangPaul hadn't thought of already......LOL
Quoted from JOESCHALL:Nice simple mod. I'd be in for one if you put it up FS. PM me with a price and paypal payment details if you make more. Thanks!
I've got material pricing already. Now I have to pattern the geometry in order to run multiple sets of these in one set-up.
Hope to provide pricing info tomorrow if people are interested.
The mod takes all of 5 minutes, max, to install...no gluing involved, (unless you want to).
I've done a time-study on making the light block panels for the stoplight housing.
I'm doing my best to keep the cost down. After taking into account the material costs, shipping costs, and padded envelope cost, I can make these for $12/set, shipped continental USA.
If there is enough interest, I'll make this happen.
Thanks Chet...
I'm going to give this a week or so to gauge interest.
The padded mailers alone will cost me approximately $40 per 100
I just want make sure there is enough interest before placing that order.
Thanks MustangPaul.
I'm planning on doing a batch of 50 sets. I'm not sure I'll sell that many, but that's my plan on the initial run.
Quoted from MustangPaul:Are they more expensive at Staples? Try Walfart.
Quoted from BrewersArcade:Pm sent for a set. Check ebay to see if you can get bulk padded envelopes a bit cheaper.
I buy my packaging supplies from uline.
They're probably about as cheap as anyone...It's just that I have to pay for shipping to have the envelopes shipped to me.
Quoted from SUPERBEE:Hey Indy, would you be willing to ship to Canada for a little more money?
Yes, I'll gladly ship to Canada.
I've shipped my pinball mods/PF plastic protectors all over the world.
Quoted from Agent_Hero:I'll take one and you can save an envelope.
You might be interested in this mod too....
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/new-lighted-moes-sign-for-tspp-available
I'll be posted an official for sale ad on pinside tomorrow.
I won't be able to ship the 1st orders until my shipping envelopes arrive.
After the 1st orders, I'll ship all following orders one day a week....(I really hate running to the post office on each individual order).
Quoted from Da_Topper:Are you coming to Expo? Bring some there to purchase, no envelopes needed!
I'm not going to Expo this year.
I've posted my stoplight housing mod on the marketplace.
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/for-sale-getaway-stoplight-mod-now-available
Quoted from Flippermatt:No way I would spend $ on a mod like that. Hell you could just size thin cardboard paper, paint with black marker and cut out and insert.
Matt..
No-one said you had to purchase this mod.
Glad you found your own solution Matt.
Another benefit to my light blocker blades...it's easily reversible.
Try doing THAT with airbrushed paint...LOL
That chrome looks sweet.
Really like the small LCD screen as well...how'd you do that?
I like the coin door decal...would like one myself, by my Getaway has a different style door.
Quoted from mof:What is the proper way to screw in the siren cover?
I'm guessing my Getaway must be missing the siren?
Does anyone have a pic? Where is it supposed to be located?
Are you talking about the backbox beacon?
First thing I'd check...make sure something hadn't found its' way into the sockets to cause a short.
After that, check the solenoids and pre-driver solenoids.
Quoted from JOESCHALL:Installed the stoplight housing mod today. Simple and very effective, and it was much easier than trying to cut something myself. I love it. And the pizza shop owner where the machine is routed admired it as well. Thanks, Tim!
Thanks for the good word...
It really is a nice, cheap mod that really enhances the look of the playfield.
Thanks for the kind words guys.
Everyone seems to like the mod...that makes me a "happy camper"...
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/hs2-the-getaway-stoplight-mod
Now you need my stoplight mod...
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/hs2-the-getaway-stoplight-mod
Quoted from tiltmonster:a sharp eye when it comes to the pop bumper caps! I have the originals but I was playing around with these starburst caps, I liked the way they threw out the light on that part of the playfield, it gives it a little more brightness, and the bulb doesn't standout like in the originals. Someday I may switch it back but for now I'm liking the extra pop while still retaining a semi-original look (nice catch).
I did the same on my Getaway...those pop bumper caps look a lot better than stock caps.
Quoted from kyle5574:It is awesome! But it's a lot of work!

Looks great.
My stoplight mod looks pretty good as well.
Quoted from rottenrobert1313:What's up speeders? I just got in the club. Bought mine from John Dayhuff. Awesome guy to deal with. It's in pretty good shape. I have LED's on the way. Going to light up some of the plastics with the LED strips from comet. Expecially the gauges on the slings. (Love it Paul..just saying). Not sure what color rubbers to put in it but I think I'm going to try titans.
