I see you're running my Pin2DMD beta!

Yes. I was hoping others (and you) would notice, so we can create some buzz!

Don't know if there are any other John Wick franchise Getaway owner fans, but I went and watched "JW 3 Parabellum" last night, and wow! No spoilers here, but that movie had action from the first minute in and didn't stop until it was over 130 minutes later (movie seemed nowhere close to that). Very intense & creative close-up violence (I didn't know you could kill people in so many different ways with guns, knives, and other seemingly benign objects - no pencils in this one), the storyline is a logical continuation of the first two movies while taking you deeper into the High Table, and there were even some surprising twists which pave the way for a fourth movie.

Even though there were actual moments where I had to look away - it was that visceral, I feel like I need to see it again just to take in everything I may have missed since it was coming at me so fast.

Yes I streamed and watched it online last night, not bad at all !

Do tell, is there a legit service that has it streaming? In Canada? Not interested if not legit. Thanks.

all streaming is legit, there's a ton of them - downloading is a different story.

Dealing with Chris (Mr_Tantrum) was one of my best experiences in the hobby. He was VERY responsive, offered a lot of options, and had everything fabricated and shipped within a couple days - even though I let him know I wasn't in a rush. I think I had everything installed about a week after I placed my order. I couldn't be happier!

I just finished installing a Pinuindo on my supercharger, and I
must say it is awesome!
No vids yet, as I want to do some custom programming first, but
if you enjoy a lightshow this is a must have mod.[quoted image]

Just built my Pinuindo kit and had Mr. Tantrum's program loaded. It's a fantastic mod and for $55 the biggest bang for the buck. There are a lot of moving parts to build, small solder pads and splices and such, but the docs/pictures walk you through it, so as long as you have decent soldering skills, assembly was fairly easy. And eric (lyonsden) is Johnny on the spot with instant support. Again, best mod for this game bar none for the cost.

My wife (yes, the wife) has been begging to see this. She has an infinity for Keanu in these movies. The movies are OK (1st better than the 2nd), so trying to stall until comes out on Redbox or Kodi.

Quoted from Mr_Tantrum:

Just finished my first run at a customized Pinduino program for the Getaway. I have a couple of other things I want to do, but not sure if/how just yet.
Here is basically what I have done thus far:
- Idle | full strip white sparkle at around 40% brightness
- Left & Right Sling Flashers | full strip alternating fast between red and blue
- Right Bank Flasher | strip chasing clockwise red then counterclockwise blue
- Left Bank Flasher | alternating between left half flashing red and right half flashing blue
- Supercharger Flasher | red chase around SC as ball goes around (this was part of Eric's original programming)

Any idea where I can get the metal thingie above the U turn that has a sticker on it in your getaway? Mines missing the metal completely.

That is the back left ball trap bracket which was added sometime into production so many units were not shipped with it (see this bulletin - http://howtopinball.com/files/pinball/paperwork/williams/service-bulletins/williams-service-bulletin-book-1992-fall.pdf).

Only place I know to get it is Marco's: https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/01-10903

You are probably also missing the right ball trap bracket (hard to see in my video as it is hidden by the right speak ring light reflection - I forgot to install my Bent Plastic before I shot the vid): https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/01-10904

Regarding my Pin2DMD, I'm leaving town in the morning and won't be back until June 10th. I'll be interested to see what all has changed when I get back!

#9422 4 years ago

I'll order those and get the U turn sticker from you :p
Looks like you're running v.07 , a lot of bugs were squashed in v.08 and I should have v.09 out before you get back.

#9423 4 years ago

I pulled my Power Driver Board due to a leaking capacitor. Of course in a hurry, I did not label the IDC/ molex connectors when pulling them out.
I might struggle putting back all the connectors in the right spot on my Getaway. Could someone please post a few pics of the connectors on your PD board (A-12697-1), so I have some sort of reference. I would really appreciate it!!

Thanks so much, Have a great Memorial weekend!

I agree 110% and if those pics don't help, here's one I took many years ago when I installed a PinLed Power Driver Board (Franks Famous battery mod after that..)

Only thing I'd say is repair, replace that 120 molex and pin set

Good luck!

Just joined the club yesterday! Doing a laundry list of upgrades I want to do such as changing LEDS to ones I want, speaker upgrade, pinsound, and other cool mods for this great pin! I want to make this a standout in my little collection.

So far, gotta do a lot of cleaning, rebuild the flippers ,add new glass, and put in new titan rubbers once they arrive. Then it is up to OT to finance all my wants!

Personally i would go with a colour DMD before adapting to pinsound!

#9434 4 years ago
Quoted from Mancave:

Personally i would go with a colour DMD before adapting to pinsound!

Why?

#9435 4 years ago

I could respond with "Why not"?
BUT, if you require an answer then it's a personal choice. I've never felt the need to change the original music on any machine, if i wanna hear a disco tune, or.....shudder C-Rap tunes, or whatever genre, then i can always youtube that. I like the original version of La Grange!!! The colour DMD adds a dimension to the machine/s that a change to a "cover" version of a song or any other chosen song doesn't and certainly enhances a machine in the process. Maybe it's a generational thing and i'm just showing my age, that's for other's to decide, guess i was just brought up in an era where if it's not broken, then don't try fixing it.

#9436 4 years ago
Quoted from Mancave:

Well, I’ve expressed my opinion on this before, and it is exact opposite. Don’t get me wrong, both are great. However, the interaction with a color DMD is minimal during a game, and it doesn’t really do anything to change the overall experience or to add variety. PinSound on the other hand, impacts you emotionally while playing. Different music for different events brings you into the game more (e.g. a fast paced song in the right place, something that coordinates with the action going on, etc.). Additionally, when you are ready for variety and the game is a little stale, just switch the orchestration and you are off to a new, yet familiar, pinball experience.

For classic pins, if I could only have one of these mods I would nearly always choose PinSound, and when adding both to a pin my first upgrade would be PinSound as well. Ultimately, however, it is a personal preference.

#9437 4 years ago

I'm loving my colorDMD LED version on Getaway. Just looks "generation" right to me and I would do it again. Looks like it was meant to be with the game, especially with all the other LED lighting improvements. And as strange as it may be, it seems the "video mode" is clearer/easier to do. Other than that, I agree w/ Tantrum that the interaction w/ the DMD is pretty minimal.

As for PinSound, I can't give a fair opinion on that because I've never played or heard one *in person* (only some YouTube impressions). I still like the original sounds of Getaway and other than maybe wanting to improve the sound quality a little, I haven't really wanted to change the sound tracks. But again in all fairness, I can't give a fair opinion of PinSound as I've never really experienced it. I totally get the idea of different music (or different [anything]) that is part of engagement while playing the game and can bring you in more while playing it. Hope to someday checkout a PinSound in person on a Getaway.

Changing the music doesn't change the playing experience in any way. If a machine is getting stale to play then perhaps it's time to move it on and try another machine, there is lot's of choice You could have headphones on and listen to any music you want too at the same time you play, technically speaking the music is secondary to the actual game play.

Quoted from Dantesmark:

It's just an opinion dude, everyone is different and like different things!! Adding colour to the graphics whilst STILL keeping the same images can not be compared to choosing completely different songs for a machine. That's akin to adding Abba songs to an Iron Maiden machine.

Hmm, so next time I watch a horror film I can just listen to some random pop music and the movie will be just as suspenseful and scary? Pinball is not just a tactile and visual experience, as I think most would agree that there is an important auditory element to most pins. It is all about immersion into a game when playing for entertainment or pure enjoyment. If playing competitively, I would tend to agree that neither music nor color DMD would play a significant role.

#9442 4 years ago

This is one of the many topics that people feel strongly about on both sides and I don't think anyone is going to change their opinion on which one they prefer.

I love the ColorDMD and I feel it's one of the top mods on the market, visually speaking, it can really transform the looks of your machine. I haven't upgraded to a Pinsound board but I would also consider Pinsound one of the top mods on the market. I like the idea I just haven't done anything about it yet... honestly, you cannot go wrong with either one.

#9443 4 years ago
Quoted from tiltmonster:

This is one of the many topics that people feel strongly about on both sides and I don't think anyone is going to change their opinion on which one they prefer.

My ultimate point is if you can afford it then always add both to this particular pin (I would never not want a colorized DMD nor upgraded customized sound system). If you have to choose only one or if you will eventually add both but have to pick which one to start with, then my recommendation/opinion/preference is PinSound.

#9444 4 years ago

I find the auditory experience important to the game when you're playing at home and it's the only thing you hear. I could understand if you have ambient music playing in the background or at a loud location the music plays second fiddle to the visuals.

In Getaway, when the Run the Red Light music is playing it starts to tense me up especially if I'm on my 3rd ball.

#9445 4 years ago
Quoted from Mancave:

Changing the music doesn't change the playing experience in any way.

Totally disagree. Even the original tunes in stereo and remastered.... Enormous difference!

Quoted from Geteos:

That’s a good point. I’m always thinking in terms of home use in a noise controlled environment. Put a PinSound in a game that is at an arcade or some other loud noisy environment and you are pretty much wasting your money.

I love TPF, but my biggest frustration there is not being able to get a full sound experience of the pins given how loud the ambient noise is (why many of the PinSound pins there have headphones attached).

#9447 4 years ago

Its no secret I love colorized DMDs; but for some games I think sound is more important. This rings true for the getaway and T2.

#9448 4 years ago

Interesting...I typically recoil when I hear a game with pinsound in place of the original audio. Then again, I've never played one, this is only in YouTube videos.

I usually feel the same about the alternate translights too though. I prefer the machine original with slight touches. So, playfield mods, additional police flashers, color DMD are all up my alley, but once you start modifying it too much it feels too different to me.

I can understand the allure for a lot of people though, this is quite a basic machine on its own minus the eye catching super charger.

#9449 4 years ago

Some ALT translights are superior to the factory one , but a lot of them suck too. I've heard a few remastered games, and they are pretty good. I've heard some "remixed" games and they are pretty bad. Getaway without the Supercharger is just High Speed. I think the first mod for HS2 should be the pinduino for the super charger, that looks AMAZING

#9450 4 years ago

Most alternate translites are pretty meh... It seems that most of them are just scantily clad photos of women.

I personally love the Getaway translite, so would never think of changing it, but everything else is open to modding.
