Quoted from Mr_Tantrum:

My only thought is that were I come from the traffic lights are yellow, but have black surrounds. Then again, this may only be for the hanging ones.
I still think a newly designed all black housing would look nice.
[quoted image]

I think that looks great.

#8552 5 years ago

This is what I have so far.... the housing would be about 1.5cm less deep!

Quoted from fishbone:

How about getting rid of the light board and go for an all new, smaller traffic light design?
Here's a quick find for 10mm LED lenses that might work:
https://www.vcclite.com/product-category/panel-lenses-and-clips/panel-lenses-for-10mm-leds/

We could make a traffic light in the same style as the supercharger bridge? With protruding round LEDs?

The idea with a new smaller Lightboard is also good...
Does anyone have schematic for non ghosting LED s? .... We could use your proposed LEDs and put the non ghosting circuit directly on the board? Adding molex pinheaders to make it pin compatible to the original board....

That looks promising, I'd like to see it when you're done.

I'm not too worried about realism but I have seen some black traffic lights from time to time, although I agree, yellow is fairly standard these days.

Here are a couple of pics with my homemade High Speed style pop covers for those who are possibly interested. Please note the following:

- I've only printed two, but should give you the idea
- I noticed in one of the pics that I forgot to completely screw the lower cover down
- The left cover was printed with only 20% infill which is why you see the honeycomb pattern in it
- The bottom cover was printed with 100% infill which is how I would do them
- I raised the tick marks on the lower cover which is why they appear a little more pronounced
- Important to only use LEDs as incandescent might get too hot for PLA (I had warm white LEDs in for these pics)

I think I would like black better than the stock yellow, and overall black would stop the light bleed (although I've made inserts for that). Whatever design OlliG comes up with, it may be adoptable to the style I showed. Great thing about 3D printing is you can design things however you like, and there's always more than one way to do it.

Not a fan of protruding stuff. I like your current design better.
Anyhow, I see you're quite playful and skilled in the 3D-design department. Curious to see what else you're going to come up with.

What about a two-colored version?
Orange or yellow? (Problem is... I have no yellow Filament )

I like Version 3 (yellow front/black housing) best. Spray painting would be an option too.
How do you do the lenses?

I will try to recycle the lenses from the original traffic-lights....
As "plan B" I will try to print them in clear PLA with a Star-Pattern inside!
Basicly it is those two objects combined

Or just make the hole so these can fit inside; I was going to buy a traffic light housing to paint black and put in new all new 1" inserts...

This is how it would look like with the original bracket...
I first thought it would be too long...but I think it is OK like this... ?!

Awesome, and welcome to the club. You have many days of great reading in front of you if you start at post #1!

#8568 5 years ago

Those look really cool! I would love a set like that one day

Quoted from Mr_Tantrum:

Well, I was able to design this. The logo and tick marks are elevated slightly from surface (original caps have black areas inset/depressed into surface). Idea is to color the raised parts with a black marker/paint. I'm not sure how well this will 3D print, but I'm giving it a shot. Not setting my hopes too high, but will take about 4 hours before I know for sure what it will look like.

She plays great! Just a good ol survivor players game, some planking beginning on left lower of playfield, and cab fade etc, but the price was fair considering. Quick clean, wax and enjoy. May do a restore nxt winter....

Nice! I haven’t heard anything back from the Original seller, these certainly look like good replacements.

After printing some parts... I had to change a lot of stuff... to make it easier to print... and more customizable regarding colors...

This is what I came up with .... I'm in the stage of printing this now... lots of parts....
But what I can see so far... this will look great in the machine ....

Started having an issue today where my flashers are not working. F111 had burned, so I replaced and noticed that the 2 right bank flashers (below plastics on right side under Donut Heaven area) are stuck on.

I've checked the wiring and all looks good. Any advice on what to do next?

stuck flashers are same as stuck coils. look for short in wiring to ground... and if not there.. then it will be a transistor problem on driver board.. move to transistor troubleshooting on pinwiki/pinrepair.

Well, dang it. I have a blown transister on my RD board. Thanks for helping me diagnose.

#8593 5 years ago

Well, I've been working with OlliG again on a "simpler" version of the custom traffic light. This was based on his earlier model, but with a couple of custom touches. I added the "built-in" mounting bracket that also provides an angle for better visibility to the player. I'm waiting on actual inserts that I ordered, but in the interim printed some "clear" ones for modelling. The final product is as pictured, but this one is just dry fit together for now.

OlliG's creativity and designs are great, and I really appreciate him letting me tag along. If you like this version, he has the files and can either print one for you or provide the files as long as you adhere to his agreement.

Thanks, OlliG!

Can you make that without the dome on the top and no additional frame all in the gray (black)? If so, how much would that cost? I'm trying to see if it worth ordering a yellow housing to paint all black or if this is the way to go...

OlliG can answer, but which design are you talking about (my single faced one or his triple faced one)? Also, I assume you mean you want all sides to be either black or gray (he can do either way) with no yellow, correct?

Also, what is the best deal you've found on just the yellow housing including shipping? Will make it easy to determine if feasible or not. Not to speak for him, but from what I've seen out there (at least on ebay - about $38 including shipping), I'm sure he can make you a better deal. Will probably just come down to which style you prefer.

FYI, doesn't have a front on it (this was an early test), but gives you an idea of what a black version would look like.

Yeah, I'm all for supporting fellow pinsiders and if the price isn't to far off I would be happy to buy one in the all black (dome on top either way is fine because it doesn't stand out much when it's black)
