Quoted from OlliG:Just a quick question... How do I change the lamp inside the start button?
I removed the Microswitch....
And then?
Quoted from Kerry_Richard:I just did this last night. I pulled the switch out, then with a pair of pliers, grabbed the bigger side of the socket and aggressively pulled it out. I tried with my fingers, but a no go!
The mirco switch is held in place by 2 tabs and snaps into place. The lamp housing is held in place by 2 tabs that twist into place, so you need to twist it and pull. The button is held into place by the large plastic nut and in order to take the button out you need to take the micro switch off so you can take the nut off. Hopefully that helps

Edit: you do not need to take off the micro switch or the button to replace the bulb, just twist it and pull...
Quoted from Mr_Tantrum:Could just get yourself one of These
I recommend one..I’ve got one on mine, and everyone that uses it for first time either chuckles or tells me how cool it is
Quoted from delt31:guys - does anyone sell the Getaway Supercharger Ramp Entrance SIGN (plastic part)? Not the metal part behind it but the plastic. I know it's prone to breaking in the corners....
[quoted image]
I had to build one from scratch. Got the plastics off of Ebay. 20 I think for repos. Then bought used lamp bases. I did buy the metal plate but it didnt seem to line up right. I ended up not using it.

See with the guy if he can offer reduced shipping in an envelope. Should be possible. If not maybe I can receive it for you and then forward it at cheaper cost.

Appreciate it! I actually found one on ebay. Thanks though
Quoted from gunstarhero:Mine was broken when I got it, I just cut the legs off and sanded down the bottom edge and just attached the sign straight to the ramp, and I actually think it looks better:

I did that with the metal plate that is available... cleaning up the plastic to square and stacking it all

I can make you one out of Lexan along with decal for it. PM me if interested.
Ok... a little update... the first phase of restoring my Getaway is almost done and I started with modding some things...
I added 3 Neopixel Stripes and an arduino to the machine:
- one stripe above the supercharger (just a white light moving left -> right... reflecting great on the metal
- around the curve of the left lane under the supercharger (alternating white moving light or red blue flickering immitating a police chase...)
- and a third stripe following the "lifting ramp" in the back (a white moving light from right -> left)
All stripes are noninteractiv so far...just animating all the time...

You need to get this from Professor Pinball. He makes great stuff!

Besides, Germans are known for their engineering.
what would cause sound effects to stop part way through? the background music should continue but hitting targets, or super charger, none of those sounds were there. even when I started a new game the effects were gone.. then of course it went into endless multi ball. when I turn it off and on it was back but there must be something brewing.. don't know if it makes a difference but since I have had the game, whenever you turn the power off there is a loud , almost like scratching an old vinyl record noise as it goes off..?
Just a short question on the game rom.
My game is on L-1...
If I replace the rom with an L-5.... Do I have to replace the sound rom with an L-5 too?
Or are they compatible between versions?

I would start by checking and reseating all the cables and see if that helps.

This is normal . Most Williams pins of this era make that noise when shutting it down.
Anyone have a source for the plastic over the switches just to the right of the supercharger ramp entrance?

You can either craft your own or throw $10 my way and I'll make it by hand. As a FYI, this is not the same exact thing as the other plastics, so if that bothers you I wanted to be up front. I use similarly thickness Lexan that I cut and shape by hand, along with a translucent decal overlay on top that I also cover with gloss vinyl.
PM me if you are interested.
Quoted from Mr_Tantrum:this is not the same exact thing as the other plastics
They are better. If every machine had a Mr. Tantrum behind them the world would be a better place.
Quoted from Mr_Tantrum:Do those pins take Deutsche Marks or Euros?
They take Deutsche Mark.
But I changed the space shuttle to take 50cent instead of 1Mark.
I will probably do the same with the Getaway...
I joined the club 4 months ago.

Mr_Tantrum : Here are the labels I made with your files Looking really great. Thanks a lot!!!

I just soldered them on the flashlamp-sockets ...
Here are a few pictures of some spots where I added them. (Last Picture is a litte bit un-sharp ...sorry )
I think they really addup nice to the gameplay and the overall lightshow
The stipes behind the white targets are my favourite spot... really cool, when they light up...
... here is a short video

I had the complete playfield dismantled and everything cleaned...
After a few games the dirt came back....?!?!
....why ???
Quoted from OlliG:Another mod... A Neopixel ring (8 led) around the buttoms...
It fits perfect around the plastic of the button.... And consumes very little space....![quoted image]

Germany's air quality?
Seriously, are those black rubber rings or silicone? If rubber, decomposition is probably one of the primary culprits. Could be multiple contributing factors, however.

BTW, i’ve given you the business in some of my posts, but wanted to let you know that what you are doing is impressive. Very fresh and creative ideas and able to execute on them.
My understanding is the leading reason Getaway is so dirty is metal on metal wear from the Supercharger. I doubt your rubber choice has a lot to do with it.

More like... 'getaway has areas not easily reached, so people don't clean them... like the supercharger'
Get rid of the black rubber and actually clean inside the supercharger and trough as well as the usual open PF and it shouldn't be any worse than any other game.

It's no harder to clean/clean under the Supercharger than under/around other fixtures on similar pins. Remove a few screws and lift up.
Even after an extensive shop on both I'm seeing much more dirt on posts and trails in Getaway than the Creature I shopped immediately before. I used the same cleaning materials and same type of rubbers... Getaway is just a dirty girl, lol.
Quoted from gunstarhero:It's no harder to clean/clean under the Supercharger than under/around other fixtures on similar pins. Remove a few screws and lift up.
The supercharger itself is multiple pieces that result in a long tunnel that I'd wager 95 out of 100 never bother to open up to clean out. Because it holds together so well, and requires handling the magnets, the optos, and the multiple ramp pieces... most would just say "close enough!" and move on vs actually splitting the supercharger loop up and actually cleaning inside the magnet tunnel. It's these unopened nooks and crannies that never get cleaned that love to track dirt right back out on your clean PF.
Well, maybe it’s just me but I didn’t think it was that tough... although I’ll accept the caveat of as long as you have the slide out playfield.
taking supercharger loop and ramp off... easy
disassembling supercharger... feels like a bit of juggling act It is a pretty neat piece of engineering though how they made it all fit together.
anyone know of where you can get the APRON DECAL SET?

Mines nice but I'm looking for perfect.

Are you interested in making your own? I have custom files that I've done. Colors are not an exact match, but I've gone with more of a red theme.
Also, while I normally hand make these, I do have a vinyl set that someone printed for me that I'd be happy to sell (just PM if interested).
