Quoted from Mr_Tantrum:

Oi, Oi, Oi!
Hey, can you detail your lens mod on the supercharger?

Was pretty involved. I made a whole new stainless custom bracket with larger cutouts, used some red acryilic and speaker mesh behind it so no visible stainless at all.
Red led strip for glow GI and red flashers as well when switched.

I had the idea to actually create one where the flaps opened & closed, but couldn't figure out how to pull it off. Would look cool if they flapped open with red flash behind.

This would actually be brilliant if someone could pull it off !! Maybe use some of them "flame" leds from Comet ?

Wouldn't be very hard as you can add another coil to open the blades. This can be activated by the closing of the diverter coil.

Quoted from tiltmonster:

Interesting... well, it appears that the u20 chip is socketed, as mine was in the pin that was throwing the ground short error, which leads me to believe they have already replaced the chip. You can get them at pinballlife https://www.pinballlife.com/index.php?p=product&id=569
I'd probably buy a sleeve of them, 5 or so, just in case. They are cheap and if it's like my pin, I had to replace it 2 times, and one I installed poorly and bent the pins to crap.
I'm not implying this is the issue but if it is, it's a cheap and easy fix; if it's not it's back to square one.
You could test and put J207 on the J206 pin row

Well - I swapped the connector locations and nothing changed. I swapped out U20 switch matrix chip and the problem remained as well . Time to trace wires I guess... Any other ideas? Thanks again.

Does your supercharger make a distinct humming sound when it initially turns on?

I never noticed it before on games I played on location, but I noticed my slowish supercharger makes a noise as the ball passes the opto on the entrance ramp.

Quoted from GRUMPY:

Already looked into doing it electrically with a coil but there is very little room behind the face plate due to the position of the magnets and the small gap to the flasher light board (also taking into consideration that when the butterflys would be open it also takes up space, half of the circle is behind and half in front). I've virtually worked out a mechanical offering that will work but just haven't had the time to finish it off yet.

That sounds really interesting to me. Would love to see prototype in action if you are ever able to give it some time. I really like the idea of having some mechanical movement. Don’t get me wrong, the looping SC is brilliant, but would really love some icing on my cake.

I haven't noticed any abnormal noise with the supercharger. I seem to get average times through the optos (90-100). The entrance opto is working fine too as far as I can tell. My diverter is a little sticky, but doesn't impact game play.

I don't think my game has been shopped in the last 15yrs - I have a lot of work ahead of me... My other pin was in NIB condition when I got it and didn't need anything. I'm understanding the 'half your time playing, half your time fixing' thing. I'm up for it though.

#7763 5 years ago
Quoted from pkrobin:

...Also, i did have a problem at one point after waxing everything with the ball slightly hitting the plastic covering the hairpin turn on the left and being slowed. Make sure yours isn't.

I had this problem as well. The ball was jumping down over the gap and hitting the hairpin turn plastic cover, and slowing it down. Had to add rubber washers on the screws to build up the gap. Had to put longer screws in to account for the taller space required.

90's isn't bad so if that's the case I'd look at brand new pinballs or any obstructions, ball hitting diverter or plastics...

EDIT: this era of Bally/Williams games are really strong, once you get it dialed in they are tanks and should last a very long time in home use. I've had mine for nearly 15 years and it's been running really strong for most of that time. Yes, it took me a while to get it from a re-import on location machine to what it is now but it's worth it, especially at the price I paid back then. Even by today's prices I think they are a great deal compared to NIB prices

Completely agree.

#7766 5 years ago
Quoted from Pinless:

That definitely looks like it could be an issue but I don’t see any room for adjustment.

Hey I am jumping in here blind but the holes securing your bracket are without question not alligned. They should be parallel with the top side of the playfield. Id drill a small starter hole above where the leftmost screw currently sits. Again the goal is to be parrallel. I can send you pics if you want.

I’m sure it looks better than new, but wooo, for $165 and it still being the flimsy stock part underneath I don’t know.

I agree, chrome plating on plastic? Won't that chip? Mine is in really good shape and it looks just fine and for much less you could just buy a new one.

Well yeah chrome plating on plastic, it's called vapor deposit, that's what the stock piece is. But as long as Marco still has the parts buy from them, save a lot of money. I bought mine from Marco and it looks great.

I was just curious to see if it looked like true chrome. The stock ones kind of do but not perfect.

Have you tried re-seating the ribbon cable that connects the DMD?

Right, same thing happened to my ColorDMD, it was as simple as that

Yeah i had the same issue with my Fish Tales, every now and then you'd turn it on and the DMD was scrambled to all hell, re-seating the ribbon cable always fixed it but eventually i swapped over to a new cable

Well, joining the club. Thanks to Wes RebelGuitars

Trading my pimped out Wolverine for a pimped out Getaway that he just picked up. Chrome everywhere. Newly redone cabinet. Lots of upgrades. Can't wait to get it within the next couple of weeks.

I'd never played a Getaway until SFGE last summer. Played more Getaway than anything else there because there were like 3 there and was the easiest to play without waiting. I realized then that there is a HUGE difference in the amount of fun that can be had on this pin if one is in excellent condition vs. average. I've been on the lookout for a nice one since. Wasn't planning on one this nice, but what the heck. You only live once.

Welcome! Looks nice, enjoy!

This is very true, playing a properly dialed in Getaway makes all the difference in the world. I have played some on location and they usually have issues, ball launch doesn't make the loop, SC runs so slowly, weak flippers won't allow you to make some shots, kicker doesn't kick the ball out correctly.... I suppose this is true for any game but this seems more apparent with this pin. Makes me appreciate mine all the more.

That’s one of the nicest Getaways I’ve ever seen.

I wish I could find out what was used for LED’s. I’d like to buy some bulbs, but I’m not sure what to get, color, brightness level, or how many I’d need. I really like the lighting on your pin.

A couple of comments:

1) That's a beautiful Getaway!
2) I noticed some of my artwork and mods on it which tells me that this pin was originally built out by Grinder901 (he also lives in TN). Also, he spared no expense in his upgrades.

Grinder loved that pin, and did everything he could to it. Unfortunately, he had to let it go a couple of years ago. Can't tell you how excited I am to see it back in the club!

You will notice that the custom shifter knob is hollowed out in order to reduce weight (I destroyed 3 or 4 drill bits doing that). Since then, I've actually designed and 3D printed the parts to replace the heavier aluminum ones in the shifter knob. When you get the pin and if you decide you would like something lighter weight (will more easily shift and return to center) then PM me. I'll share the files and you can 3D print yourself, or I'll make them and ship to you for a modest price.

Also, don't remember what I put on the DMD on the keychain graphic, but happy to send you reprints with your initials if you want for free.

One more thing, since Grinder owned this pin, I've come out with 9 different orchestrations for the PinSound that you can d/l for free and install to change up the music, effects, and even professionally done callouts. You are going to love this pin!

Personally that chroming service is waayyy too much of an investment for me, but different strokes for different folks I guess.

If you wipe your butt with hundreds then I say go for it, shoot have em re chrome all your pinballs and silverwear while they are at it

Just saw the new guys table.....HOLY SHIT IT'S MAGNIFICENT!!!!!! Great pickup man!!!! You are totally right about condition being key, I bought a fixer upper and every single thing I had to do to it was a noticeable gameplay improvement. It literally felt like tuning up an old carbureated motor

Ha-Ha, condition back in the day was a hacked up on location pin that required a lot of work but the pin was cheap enough because the operator was on to the next game and had either made their ROI or cut their losses on a dud. There were so many on the spot hacks to keep them running in the arcades (solder a connection to a pin to keep it running or drill a screw in the PF for a broken post...) but honestly that's the part of the hobby I loved. Finding a bargain, a run down beat up machine and then fixing it up to restore it all of it's glory. This HUO stuff and 6k plus NIB pins is great but I would not be in the hobby if that's the way it was back in the day...

#7792 5 years ago

Very nice game... however, in my opinion; the flashing LED panels, between the red spinning beacon, are WAY too bright! I could hardly watch the whole thing.

Finally got some cash set aside for a Getaway.

If anyone has a lead on one for a fair price in driving distance from Richmond VA be sure to let me know. Can be any condition from players to HUO, price just has to match.

Thanks!

I joined the club!

Now, does anyone have a left slingshot plastic unbroken to sell? Also the cover piece that the 3 supercharger flashers poke through.

I am fine with decent used pieces, really dont want to spend $60 for the cover piece new.

PM me, thanks.

Welcome all - loving all the new members of the Getaway club!

#7797 5 years ago

Put my mountain sticker mod on - Thanks to Mr Tantrum for the hard work!
Keeping with a darker theme I trimmed the blue top off mine.
