Quoted from Kawydud:

I have a new playfield coming as well. Looks like you live pretty close to our Toronto office. It is located in North-York on Norfinch.

Nice, can't wait to do the swap! Yep, I'm about 40 mins from Norfinch in good traffic. The problem is that good traffic is just about non
existant in Toronto nowadays.

Putting together my Getaway and came across the little L bracket near the upper right flipper. It's kinda blah as-is. Then I realized it's the shape of a common roadway sign...

mile_marker (resized).jpgmile_marker (resized).jpg

Prototype, need to mess with font size, color, and number choice a bit more, but takes the otherwise bland piece of metal and dresses it up in theme. I'll be selling these for $12 shipped, patent pending. Just kidding.

Very cool, here's mine but I just printed one and attached it to the bracket...

Hi guys, I'm new in the getaway club! Just bought mine last week, the playfield is in perfect shape but the cabinet is heavily faded.

I was wondering by any luck if anyone would happen to have the cabinet artwork files?
I have a large Roland printer/cutter available at work and a laminator and would prefer to print my own since they sell for so much.

I also need the appron graphics, mine has been completely teared off. I would buy it but its backorder everywhere. Wonder if anyone scanned one.

Looking at all the mods, there's some crazy stuff out there: color DMD, lighted speaker panel, small cop car and helicopter haha cant wait to play more with it. I'm just finishing working on my Radical before going all out on HS2.

cheers

Welcome to the club! I hate to tell you this, but this 128 page thread is full of great info, so get busy reading!

Seriously, game is fun and all kinds of modable if you want it to be. I know some are against it, but I think part of the fun is making a game your own if the intention is to have a home use entertainment pin (i.e. not indented for competition). You'll find a lot of good ideas here, a friendly with a sense of sarcasm (nothing wrong with a little goading), and some great advise from experienced pinball owners. Also, you have to watch out for the self-promotion around here . . . which reminds me!

You need a keychain for that new car of yours ($7 for one, or I can customize for all your other pins if you like at a discount - just PM me if interested): https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/getaway-club-dispatch-run-a-make-on-license-plate-kingpin/page/91#post-3514484

Also, I know I am not Charger, but I use Comet LEDs. I've made a few changes since my original conversion, but here are some ideas if you are interested. Many of these are my own creation, but many were taken from others on this forum.

You forgot to mention PinSound (https://www.pinsound.org). I highly encourage you to read and consider this as one of your first mods if you are wanting to put money into the machine, and make the game play more enjoyable. I've written a lot and posted videos, and have even created 3 separate orchestrations and shared them for free (http://pinsound-community.org/forum/index.php?/files/category/22-getaway). I also know a couple of others here have made some, but I don't believe they have posted them on the PinSound forum.

Yes, we are in the same boat. Those will be beautiful, and can't wait to see pics of them after install.

#6362 6 years ago

Okay Getaway owners, I've come up with two new decals thanks to mjenison and tiltmonster (both of which have given me permission to share these). These will both be available for free download on my site later today: http://www.thezumwaltfamily.com/getawaypinball

Additionally, if you are not the DIY kind of guy, you may purchase the set (1 of each) for $3 which includes shipping (just PM me). Decals will be made with high quality inkjet on photo paper (OEM inks and paper), Scotch permanent stick tape, and will be covered with a gloss mylar.

The first sign is for the metal bracket just above where the ball exits on launch. My bracket measures 1.3cm x 2.5cm so this is how I designed the decal. FYI, if you download to make your own you can customize the mile number in Photoshop (will include fonts I used). However, if you would like purchase from me, I really don't want to have to customize a bunch of them. I might be willing to do one or two more standard ones, but no money in these so I don't want to do a bunch of one-offs.
MileMarker0.jpgMileMarker0.jpg
MileMarker1.pngMileMarker1.png

The second sign is for the outside metal flap where the ball exits on launch. It measures 3cm at top, 2cm at bottom, and 2.5cm tall.

The previous owner per3per3 installed them. I think they came from Pinballbulbs; https://www.pinballbulbs.com/kits/getaway-high-speed-2

I added LED backbox flashers, lights under the slings, and a few others, like slow blinkers behind the helicopters in the backbox.

Hey welcome to the club. I have posted, with pictures quite a few mods that I have done to my game but you'll just have to find them in the back pages. I don't know anyone that has a file of the art so you could print your own. Here's a GREAT apron mod that's well worth the money for your apron problem, I have it and love it. https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/my-magnet-mod. I also make and sell my Leg Light-Ups if your interested. https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/new-led-leg-light-ups.

Thanks bud! The apron looks great, those are magnetic and just go on top of the current one it seems. Great idea and I love the artwork.

I tried making a list of all the mods I wanted to buy. It looks like this so far.
The machine I have the playfield is SUPER CLEAN, but the cabinet needs some love. I was thinking to put a playfield protector, not sure what you guys think of that.

Was going to go with the Britecaps pop bumper and buy the diamond top like most of you guys seem to be using.

I didnt have the Pinsound on my list, it looks very cool. Does it only improve the music or also the game sounds?
I was already going to buy the speaker upgrade.

I'm not 100% sure about the mirror blade, i'm a bit scared it may distract the game play.

Last thing is the car or chopper mods, seems like a few are available. Pinball pro also has one with the proper helicopter, however I am sad the blades dont spin, would have been hella cool.

Was going with the cointaker LED kit, since I also need one for my Radical and Street Fighter machine and they carry them all.
Did anyone tried those Noflix pinball illuminated cards? I have translite backlit film here and could print the cards on it, might look cool.

Welcome to the club and yes, i've got them on my machine. They do look great but if your game room is mostly lit up then you don't notice the lit cards so much. With the lights off they pop. Good to see you have the NVRam highlighted first thing i do to any machine and i can't stress enough the benefits of getting it installed.

My plastics are great, except for this tiny one here. Mine is broken, and its a pain to buy a full set for that. Also its backorder everywhere.

Pretty sure i have 2 second hand one's of those somewhere. I'm just about to hit the fart sack (nearly 3am here) so i'll have a shufty tomorrow and see what they are like.

They look great on a game BUT you have to make sure you have the pf clearance for them or your gonna scratch the heck out of them in short order. I don't have the clearance on my game for them.

The PinSound does whatever you program it to do. If you will search "PinSound" in this thread you will see the videos I took. In my orchestrations I have replaced all the music, some of the sounds, and "stereoized" every single sound. FYI, you will also need to rewire your speakers in stereo, and probably wouldn't hurt to replace them. You don't have to go expensive, and again you can see in this forum what I and others have gone with on a budgets. PinSound lets you set volume/treble/bass independently on cab & backbox speakers, along with balance on backbox.

#6374 6 years ago

The new exit flap and bracket above it signs are ready for download at http://www.thezumwaltfamily.com/getawaypinball

BTW, after posting the pic I noticed that I applied this decal a little catawampus (which I have fixed). Sticker is exactly correct when applied straight, and in my case there was absolutely no noticeable difference in ball flight coming from the shooter lane (i.e. made the full loop with what appeared to be the same exact speed).

This is the piece you are chasing, both are in virtually the same condition with wear to the artwork in almost the exact same place although one is slightly warped upwards. Do you have the plastic spacers and screws that go in between this piece and the one that sits above it? (also has spacers underneath)

I haven't found the correct files for the side art anywhere. Rick said the ones he sells at Planetary have all of the correct shading taken from original art files.

Thanks bud, it is that one. I found the part at Pinball Center, was able to add the individual plastic to my order. Thanks anyway, it looks like that piece is always taking a beating!

By the way I just ordered everything on my list, I added the Pinsound to it as well with speaker upgrade. Color DMD, speaker light panel kit and tons of other mods. Very excited!

Ok, so seems I missed something, but where/who exactly is selling them and where?

Or is there a play-by-play on it being installed?

The LED legs look great but I decided to wait a bit for all my games to be lined up. I also didnt order the under light cabinet kit yet.
I ordered 12 large 34" neon signs to hang around the game room and I wanted to wait to see how bright its going to be lol

I had a custom garage built for the man cave, 200 amp panel and 8x 20 amps circuits for the games.
They just finished my epoxy floor, metallic with glow in the dark flakes. Have to do some painting, hang the neon signs, rollin the kegerator and the games

They are on the Pinside market place, but it wouldnt allow me to purchase it there because i'm from Canada.
So I purchased the panel on eBay. was 300$ + overpriced shipping to Canada 70$... hope it looks great at least

Not a problem, just give me a shout when your ready.

Oh man are you ready. Does that have an upper level?

That place is REALLY gonna light up with that many neons, you might not be able to see the floor glow. I wonder is some black light fixtures on the ceiling would help them glow. Beautiful space you have there.

Yes, the upper level is my home office / game console realm lol
I know, the clear coat is also super shiny, so there should be tons of reflection. Thinking to add a few black lights to have them stick out more. It's been over 6 months in the progress, just so busy with work. I have around 30 arcade games and 5 pins so far. Hoping to enlarge my pin collection more this year. Would love a T2 and TFTC, was going to pre-order the Alien LE but with all the things happening at Heighway I decided to play on the safe side and wait a bit.

#6386 6 years ago

Quick question, I bought a LED kit for my HS2. I saw Todd from TNT and other people adding flasher/blinkers on their backglass, specifically where the car police lights are and the helicopters on the side. I thought it looked really cool.

From the bulb index, all of the bulbs on the backbox are 555. However, I cannot find any 555 flashers. What parts are usually used for those? Been looking everywhere and cant seem to find anything, I believe the 908 or 906 are the same socket but need higher voltage.

First time I put LEDs on a pin, any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks!

You can reference my download site for my full LED conversion including backbox with flashers. I wanted something a little brighter so went with tower flashers.

Quoted from MustangPaul:

My garage if fully exposed to the summer sun and winter cold and that thick insulation REALLY keeps it cool and warm.

I bet it does ! Im north of Toronto and i have about R45 in my heated garage and the heat barely stays on in the cold winters. Your sooo good to go !

ok thanks, I used your list to see what you had in your backbox but it shows the combined amount with others as well.
Can you confirm me how many flashers / color of each you have just for the backbox?

I'm gonna order those. I already bought a full cointaker kit for everything, hopefully they look ok. I noticed you added some notes regarding this specific kit and some changes that you did.

Picked up Getaway a few weeks ago. Fun game but was getting frustrated as it was extremely difficult to make lock shots from both upper and lower right flippers. Rebuilt the flippers and WOW what a difference! The olds ones didn't look that worn but the difference is amazing. Much easier to make the lock shots now and the flow is just amazing. Helped me solidify my decision to go all in with ColorDMD and PinSound.

545 bulbs are what you are looking for I think. Twilight Zone uses them in the backbox as well. Pinballlife may have some in stock.

Glad you could join us here in Getaway land. Look forward to sharing pics, and sounds like you are on your way to addiction.

I ordered the stickers from Mr_Tantrum . They're cool. Get yourself some.
Got me thinking. Where else could a neat "Tantrum's Tacky" go? How about on this L-shaped ball save piece by the supercharger?
But what should it be? Some thoughts; I kinda like the Slower Traffic one best. What do y'all think?
PS - Like the company name I made up for you Mr. T?; "Tantrum's Tackys"!
