In anticipation of a nice set of ramps tore down the playfeild and started polishing , heavy cut and medium polish so far and the factory clear is already glass , ill save the fine polishing and wax for Tomorrow , 6 hours is enough for 1 day

When i got it the glass hadnt been off since the early 90s ,
Heres what it looked like before 20150314_163107.jpg20150314_163107.jpg20150314_164357.jpg20150314_164357.jpg20150314_163025.jpg20150314_163025.jpg

Quoted from bitCurrier:

it had clear on it from the factory? oh my poor playfield..

Its amazing the amount and quality of the factory clear on a old gottleib compared to old williams system 11 games of the same era , kind of like buffing out a 20 year old german car , compared to a 20 yo dodge , you can always make the old dodge look better but there will always be de fects ,but the german car you can polish till it looks like the day it rolled off the showroom floor

Anyone gonna put those genesis cab and bb decals and tl on their game that that guy on ebay has for sale? They look pretty good.

I really wish they made a decal set that goes good with the original translite , then i think id consider it

Right now im more focused on getting everything under the glass looking working and playing as it did when new , cab decals are on the back burner

Quoted from Ven:

I bought a replacement window from pinbits last summer. They show they are sold out but here is the link to the page.
http://www.pinbits.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=520
I had to size it down because it was a bit too large but it wasn't much.

I suggest everyone who needs this window goes to the link above and hit their contact us and ask them to consider making a run of them , strength in numbers people , if enough people ask it just may happen

Quoted from CaptainNeo:

old gottliebs don't have clearcoat on them. In fact either do the system 3's. They are all lacquer based. And system 3's had a major problem with this silver "primer" that was used. Hence why the ink cracks, and starts to flake off the playfield for no reason.

I used to be in the auto body business and have lots of experience working with finishes and i assure you thats clearcoat on.my playfeild and its factory

#266 9 years ago
Quoted from CaptainNeo:

I think it's lacquer. I don't think gottlieb ever used clearcoat on any game. Up until 1986 chevy still used lacquer on cars. Which is fine, and gets a really nice glossy finish, but doesn't hold up well with age and the sun speeds up that process.

Probably right , a laquer clear , i meant having clear as in a 2 stage paint , clear topcoat , it likely is a laquer clear , normally in laquer this old theres lots of checking , i suppose spending most its life in a dark basement i just got lucky

Quoted from rgb635:

Ok here ya go go guys! Some preliminary pics of how the clear ramps will look in a restored Genesis. I am waiting on some Cliffy Protectors and LEDs in the mail before I do a full install. The quality and finish of these ramps is above superb! I would have easily paid much more for such an extinct find. SIMPLY AWESOME FREEPLAY...KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK BROTHER!!!

I consider my self lucky , i bought a genesis that was huo since 1990 and not the good kind (beat to shit) then found this thread and got ramps within weeks of getting the machine ! Thanks again freeplay40
