Has anyone ever considered having either a second switch, or a three-way switch, so that it would be possible to energize the general illumination circuit separately from the entire game? It's nice having the "ambiance" of the lights on but I wonder about leaving the always-on relays energized for no good reason. I can hear them buzzing faintly and I just know I'm burning life. Seems like it wouldn't be too hard to rig something up that wouldn't even have to be an irreversible change.

There's 6V and 24V coming out of the transformer. Lights are on 6V and everything else on 24V. Put a switch on the 24V and the lights on 6V should still mostly work (a few lights depend on relay switches on the 24V side).

Yes, that's what I mean... just wondering if anyone has ever done anything like this or if it's just a waste of time (let those relays hum).

I'd let them hum. Sometimes you can stop that by cleaning/adjusting/rebuilding the humming relay.

I've just jumpered the contact that cuts the GI closed on a few of mine

Are you me? I have been thinking about this as well. Sort of a display/nightlight mode.

    I don't think so?

    Quoted from lint:

    Exactly.
