You mean to say he wants to have a legal holding on that hand sign? I guess if anyone used the image on clothing ect?
Quoted from Travish:That's the Mickey shocker.
This hand jester is "I Love You", in American Sign Language. Does Gene want to Love everyone?
Nope, it goes to RJD.
True story:
I was talking about Dio with a guy at Zanzabar and his buddy scored 666k on a game during our conversation. It was a sign from Dio, the Devil, or coincidence. I'm going with Dio \m/
Quoted from Hougie:Nope, it goes to RJD
Or, more accurately, Ronnie's grandmother. She used to walk down the streets and when she saw people who she thought were evil, she would flash them the sign. That's where Ronnie got it from.
Genes hand sign is a little different .. thumb is out as per some of the other posts. This is because he used to have his "wings" clipped around his fingers. On his early costumes, if he put his thumbs in, likely his wings would have fallen off.

This is what happens when stars are fading away but can't let go. They will do anything for publicity. Next he will run for president. (Insert political joke here)
wow,
i guess he hasn't made enough money or earned a high enough social status by now?
greedy friggin bastard!
Hilarious. Gene Simmons wanting to basically own 40% of everyone's fingers.
My grandmother from Sicily is over 100 and calls the horns made with the 2 fingers the " maloik" or evil eye. Probably akin the what Ronnie James Dio's grandmother was talking about.

Yeah, RJDs mother was Sicilian. Exactly the same thing.
What does she say about the death metal you're into?

I was just watching a news report about this, and he's not even doing the "devil horns" aka rock n roll sign right. In the report it mentioned that the thumb was out perpendicular to the fingers......that's "I love you" in sign language. The devil horns has the thumb tucked in.

I love youRock n roll
Not that I'm defending this mad situation, but I believe that was the point of Simmons' filing - he is trademarking the fingers with thumbs out (the ESL sign) in the context of entertainment - where the ESl sign would normally not apply. I still don't get the point but that's what is going on
I don't know what it is like to have to defend intellectual property.
This does seem weird. If I have an early picture of myself flipping the middle finger. Can I trademark it?
My guess is no.
DIO got that from his grandmother he once said. Still many have used it going way way back. Simmons is just a money mad lunatic...

My guess is no.
If no one else had before you, and you are specifically using it in a certain context (like say you decided that was your "live concert hand signal") then yes.; or at least you could try
