If anyone has a Flying Aces, let me know. I recently rescued one, and it's going to be a challenge to get this beast up and going.

Quoted from Dayhuff:

I have a 1934 Genco Subway that someone turned into a coffee table and I just happed upon it last year at an auction, didn't know it was going to be there and lucky for me I was the only one that bid on it.

Quoted from Mpellicano:

1940 'Big Chief' that I picked up today. Complete, not hacked. Lots of dry rotted wires (mostly coil wires). Bargain price of $100. Florida heat took its' toll, but I'll bring her back.

Post some "after" pictures... nice machine!

Playfield cleaned up well.[quoted image]

Very nice indeed!

Quoted from Mpellicano:

I am looking for the little gate that stops the ball from reentering the shooter lane. The bracket is there, but nothing else.

You are probably going to have to "make" that part. Not hard. See: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/what-kind-of-metal-for-making-a-wire-gate

Quoted from Mpellicano:

Settle this debate; my brother says that exposed coil wires pose no threat of shorting....I disagree. But, with my very limited knowledge of coils in this condition, I pose this question to the forum. Disregard the heat shrink tubing; too many exposed wires to address the issue using them. I feel that new coils are required. Your thoughts?
[quoted image]

The wires in the coils that look "exposed" are actually coated with a thin insulation. If they were not, they would all short together and not act like a coil. The paper wrapper provides minimal resistance to something scratching the insulation on the fine wires. It is mainly there for identification and cosmetic reasons. That said, I would just make new wrappers and put them over what is there instead of buying new coils. If a coil looks like it has over heated, then that is a sign that it may have developed an internal short, and should probably be replaced.

Quoted from Jappie:

Hi Genco guys, I'm looking for an instructions card (or a scan or picture of one) for my 1940 Big League. Or any type of documentation, really.
It's quite a longshot since I haven't seen or heard of another example of this game in almost 10 years of owning it. But it can't hurt to try, right? If you have something, please let me know!
[quoted image]

That is a very nice machine. Have you looked up the US patent on it? Patent #: US002134185

Quoted from tomcons:

The latest addition to my Genco collection - a 1949 Three Feathers. The cabinet and playfield are in very good condition, the one issue being sunken inserts which I'm working on now. The backglass on the other hand is pretty poor with a lot of flaking. I'll be doing a repro of it, but the issue is that I'm missing all the detail in the red feather (behind the blonde). If anyone has a nicer backglass & could get me a few high res pics of that area, it would be a big help and greatly appreciated.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

The good news is that you have quite a bit of detail in the other feathers, so duplicating that style for the red one in photoshop will not be as difficult as having nothing at all to go by. In the end, nobody is going to know if it differs a little from the original unless you have a perfect original there to compare it to. Keep the style and look similar to the rest of the art and it will look great!

Quoted from tomcons:

Me. Since I always seemed to end up with games that no one was doing repro backglasses for, I figured I had to learn how. So they are all multi-layer digital direct print to plexiglass, and I think look good lit and unlit and compare well to the originals. But it's not cheap and takes a lot of time. And since Genco often uses silvering which can't be replicated digitally, I end up having to manually silver ink them, which also takes a lot of time, but it's worth it.
This is the Trade Winds repro glass I did earlier this year. Original on the left in the 1st pic. 2nd pic shows how it looks lit on a light box.[quoted image][quoted image]

That looks awesome. Care to share any of the detail of the steps you take in your process?

Quoted from Jappie:

This Four Roses just popped up for sale nearby. I've seen the machine first hand a few years ago and know it's in very good condition. Exceptional, for a 1940 machine.
Would look great next to my Big League. Same year of manufacture, same cabinet style, same condition.

Wow, what a nice looking machine!

This is the first time I have noticed the "Not inc." after the Genco MFG Co. name. Would love to know the back story on that...

Quoted from Pmoore66:

I ordered a bridge rectifier from PBR and made time for the replacement this morning.

Usually, the DC- is connected to the center tap of the transformer, making the common "ground". I think you have the DC- and DC+ reversed from that perspective.

1 week later
#255 3 years ago
Quoted from Pmoore66:

sheprd I pulled the DC+(middle wire) and that short wire from the same connection point on the selenium rectifier. The DC- was at the end by itself. This is my first attempt at this replacement. Machine has been working fine. If they were reversed what would I expect?

Things will still work. The DC creates a magnetic field that pulls in relays and solenoids either way. It's kind of like having an old car with a positive ground system. Still works, but if someone expects it to conform to what is typical in most machines, they will get wrong measurements. If you ever want to ground the metal parts of the machine for safety reasons like all modern games are, you will want to reverse the DC and go negative ground.

Quoted from forepar:

Can someone help me track down parts especially a new rubber kit for the 1947 genco honey pinball?

You probably won't find a "kit" for that, but can order whatever rubbers you need from several suppliers. You just need to measure to determine the sizes and quantity that you need. A lot of people like the rubbers that Marco provides. They seems to be good quality. The PBR has a lot of parts for older machines. Hope this helps.
