I have a completely functional Signal Red LE Sidekick to offer at a discount. It has a few very minor chips and scratches in the powdercoat that have touched up very nicely. It also has its 3/8" holes just a bit out of spec which ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT AFFECT ITS PERFORMANCE. Asking price is $250 shipped.

I also have a brand new matching LE Roto in stock for $375.00

    PM me if interested.

wrd1972_PinDoc - received the rotisserie accessories last week (thank you!). With my STTNG project on hold till I get my playfield back from Ron Kruzman, it'll probably be summer before I can use the sidekick. But I'm doing a Williams Flash now and the sliders are great! Thanks again.

I just mounted up my BK2K playfield on my Roto, and I think I can confidently say this is the heaviest SYS11 playfield I have seen. Roto and Sidekick are holding it like a charm. I'm debating to try to remove the mylar. Making me nervous thinking about it. LOL

I picked up one of these rotos this week for a pair of Hayburner II barn finds. Bill got the roto to me very quickly and it works like a charm. Rock stable and easy to use.

Apparently I'm the first person that he knows of who used paste wax as a finish on the roto steel. I'm kind of surprised at that since paste wax is pretty much the way that I was taught for preserving bare metal on wood working machines with milled tops like table saws, drill presses, jointers etc. At any rate I just used Simple Green on paper towel to get the shipping grease off and then applied Johnsons paste wax to all of the bare metal.

If you've never used Paste wax before, just load a small section of rag from the can, work it into the steel, let it set for a minute or two and then buff off with a clean rag. Super easy and quick. You can also re apply at a later date if you want to but this should be pretty much good for the life of the roto.

Here's a photo of my resurrection set up for these dead pins. This lets me get at all of the switches, jones plugs and bulbs (the usual suspects) without standing upside down on your head inside the cab.

Here's a close up of the finish
    20231220_082654 (resized).jpg20231220_082654 (resized).jpg
I took a quick look online and saw that Johnson paste wax was discontinued a few years ago. That's a shame because it is a great product but I guess people don't use it on their furniture and hardwood floors any more. The Minwax natural product is what I will switch to when my can runs out. You could probably use an auto wax as well but I wouldn't apply that to anything that is going to touch wood that will be finished. If the silicone in auto wax gets onto to wood it will cause "fish eyes" in clear coat.

Build quality seems amazing as far as I can tell from excitedly rummaging through the box as I held up gift unwrapping.

    Now I need a project.

Quick follow up, the shipping box for the roto was pretty badly damaged by UPS and one of my Pinside friends said how nicely that box works for storing the roto when not in use. I mentioned this to wrd1972 and he shipped me a new box free of charge, that is exceptional customer service!

Got an old timer on the PinDoc Roto. This is an 1973 Bally Monte Carlo going through a medium restoration. This is currently the oldest PF to go on my Roto, but my 1962 Williams Tradewinds is not far behind. I was a yaer old when this dude came out. LOL.

    Love these old EMs.

...and of course a job like this requires some very classic Louisville Kentucky beer in my Dad's honor. Definitely recommend this re-brew from Akasha Brewery if you like the old stuff.

The rotisserie in action. This time on a EM plugged into the circuit panel in the cabinet for full access while troubleshooting. Loving this roto!

    #775 8 months ago

LOL, I am currently doing the exact same thing on this Bally Monte Carlo. Just finished cleaning the top side of the PF including replacing bulbs and rubbers. Now, I am going through all of the switches and what-not under the PF. Simply having the Playfield elevated and being able to adjust to your desired angle really makes this work much easier.

    pasted_image (resized).pngpasted_image (resized).png

Nothing like getting the EM electronics all sorted out after a playfield swap while the cabinet is being painted in the garage! Love this roto!!

Well it looks likes a bunch of switches on the switchboard need cleaning and adjusting. Out it comes.

Having the switchboard on the roto allows you to rotate it to the best angles to be able to see the switch leafs. This absolutely makes cleaning and adjusting a much more pleasant experience.

I have a couple of these and love them! Compared to the homemade ones I had before, the stability in these alone was worth the extra spend.

    Keep up the awesome work!

has anybody put a game like dungeons and dragons on one? it has both a large upper playfield type area(with mostly slopes) and no rails whatsoever, worst of both worlds. maybe the sliders to attach in the back where the back wall affixes?

    #788 3 months ago

piccolohl PinDoc here. I am a bit leary of attaching your D&D to my Roto because of the unique shape of the PF. Like you mentioned, there are not any side walls on the rear 1/3rd (see attached) and I think the PF would likely flex too much. Adding Sliders to the rear would not help here at all.

However, I think it would be possible to easily mod the playfield to allow the Sidekick to be used, plus this would allow you to mount up the fully assembled PF without having to disassemble the rear wall, ramps etc and the PF would be very well and safely supported.

If you were to attach a pair of SYS-11 pivot brackets to your PF, it would easily bolt right up to the SK:
    https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/01-8726-L-1

All that is required is to drill four 5'16" holes in the PF, install some t-nuts, and then bolt the brackets on. Then, simply attach the Sidekick just like any other SYS-11 PF. BTW, this has become a common practice that many folks are using to mount up the non-typical playfields such as this. Lastly, once the t-nuts are installed, they cant be seen because they are hidden from sight under the plastics.

    Hope that helps you out.

Update. All Pro and Premium items purchased in the month of June have been shipped out via UPS. All Le items were dropped off at the powdercoater a few days ago and are in the queue to be finished. Thanks for the orders everyone.

Due to the "sign of the times" and the cost of labor and materials, I will no longer be offering Rotos and accessories in colors other than black. It is no long cost feasible to offer the many colors like I have been doing over the years. So moving forward, the only color of powdercoat I will be offering is gloss black. Just a FYI.
