Read an article about Stern today in the Chicago-Sun times. Very interesting read.

Gary Stern is retiring "after a lifetime" in pinball, and happy to have George Gomez replace him. He said the Stern legacy is in "exceptional" hands.

Gomez said that he has many plans for the company, the first being changing the name to "Gomez Pinball, Inc."

Looking ahead, Gomez said players can expect an LCD screen later this year, and starting in 2019, Pin2K-like pinball games.

"Williams patents will have run out on this by 2019, so there's nothing stopping us from doing that. It's my baby after all, and it's high time it was brought back."

Gary Stern expects a smooth transition in April. His first destination after retiring? "Belize!", he says with a smile.

Smart people don't try to launch April Fool's internet jokes after 1pm.

Gary Stern snowboards his way into retirement. New LCD Stern Shaun Wipeout pinball on the blue print.

Why are members calling out Aprils fool right off the bat? Wouldn't it be nice to keep the joke going and see if we can really catch someone off guard. .
Thought that was the point of April's fools. Kinda reminds me of ruining Christmas for kids by telling them about Santa.

    Who's Gary Stern?

    Telling them what about Santa?

OK, I'll swallow my pride and admit that I "bought it" just long enough to click the thread title. Well played!

Starting an April fool's gag in the middle of the day (long after we have all already been subjected to/perpetrated/thought about pranks) is a damn good idea, I like it!

    OK, now that is funny.

That he had to move to the South Pole because of climate change. Living on a sheet of floating sea ice just wasn't working out anymore. They kept the move under wraps to avoid having to change all his merchandise to South Pole and the likelyhood being discovered by the many scientists working down there.

Quick fire sale on all my pinball machines. I fear the next titles will go as follows: transformers, transformers, transformers, transformers, transformers, transformers, transformers, transformers.

    #15 3 years ago

Wait, Williams doesn't make pinball machines anymore?

I think this is legit. An april fools joke would read "Stern releases new Kiss code".

    #17 3 years ago

Gary Stern is just an employee at Stern Pinball. Rumor is he sold the company to investors some time ago and no longer owns SP. So i guess this all makes sense. At his age retiring would be a good idea, me thinks.

    I fricking hate April first.

Not because I don't like funny pranks or jokes, but because I like funny pranks or jokes.

But no one would actually fall for that, would they?

They did tease the KISS code...only to not release the code. Seriously...why would they troll their customers like that?

If it were my company, heads would be rolling in the marketing department.

It would have been good if it was true......

Dang I was really hoping this would have been true. I can imagine Gomez Pinball putting out some great games which is the kick in the pants that Stern Pinball needs.
