    Dear Queen loving Pinsiders

Let's give Gary Stern reasons why he should build a Queen Pin for us.
Can we come up with 50 reasons? More?

I'll start off with 5 reasons

    1. 15 and 55 year old people listen to Queen music
    2. You will expand your market in Europe
    3. Australians will buy as many Queen machines as we bought ACDC
    4. The Brits will love you
    5. It will be a massive seller for Stern, and just as importantly, introduce new people to pinball

Who will post reason no. 6?

Lol! A guy getting hugged by another dude(Marilyn Manson) can't say that!

    Very funny wise guys.

Now, let's leave this thread going for the intended and addressed audience: Queen loving Pinsiders.

    #6 6 years ago

because what the pin world really needs is a pin themed for a band that hasn't existed for over 20 years*...

i LOVE queen... i'm also a middle aged guy...

really want to get the young 'uns into pinball by use of a music theme? try some hip hop stuff or dubstep... that's what they listen to, not bands that middle aged guys remember from the days back when we were young and dumb and full of, ummm, well, ya know...

    * without freddie there was a band named "queen"... but they aren't QUEEN...

edit: fixed by spelling it right, dammit, watched too much prez cup today..,

    #7 6 years ago

I like Queen a lot. Just not sure that there is enough of the "Right Stuff" to make a successful pinball title out of. Just because Queen is popular doesn't mean they will sell.

    #8 6 years ago

Queen is one of the, if not THE, pioneer arena rock bands. Amazing band. Would have made a great pin, back in the day. But not so sure about today.

    #9 6 years ago

Queen would be my 5th choice behind Led Zep, Pink Floyd, The Beatles and Rush. I would buy any of the 5 sight unseen.

    #10 6 years ago

i too would buy rush sight unseen, and it would be my first (and likely only) modern pin... sign me up today for the super duper le model please...

at least they still exist... and one can only imagine the, ummm, "discussions" on pinside about what stern did wrong in choosing what they put in and what they left out...

    #11 6 years ago

What would the playfield look like? Is there a theme that jumps to mind? I sure hope it would not just be a cutout of the band rocking back and forth in the back corner while "Freddie on a Stick" moves from side to side in front of the flippers.

The Stones are (or were) a great band, but we saw that without a creative idea for the play field you have nowhere near enough to make a great pin.

Davey Crockett was a great american pioneer, but he's outdated, and would make a lousy pinball machine.

    #13 6 years ago

I like what they have done with the classic rock bands. They could choose someone more current, but if they put Bieber or Katy Perry on a pin, I just don't see it holding up to the test of time. And frankly, while my family (ok, me too dammit) really like Katy Perry... there is no freakin' way I'd buy a Pin with here as the theme. Ditto, for a lot of other musicians whether rap, rock, pop, etc. I just think it works well to pick a band that has stood the test of time and is a classic and has enough top songs to make it work.

That is why stadiums all over the world still play their music and one of the top selling artists today took her name from one of their songs.

    #15 6 years ago

I'd love to see it happen, but realistically doubt it would.

    #16 6 years ago

queen could be cool. with a news of the world robot toy.
please no rap,hip hop, or modern b.s. that some actually consider music.

More or less the same opinion. I love Queen. Bohemian rhapsody is one of my all-time favorite songs. But unsure if this would be timely now.

Agreed on the toy... but let me enjoy Rap as well !

Queen's a great band, but a little late for a pin. What is really needed in a music pin is the equivalent to Guitar Hero or Rock Band, with a variety of bands, music and styles, would seem like a natural to me for JJP's platform, and if they can do it for a video game why not for a pinball machine??

    #24 6 years ago

RUSH would be amazing for sure. It will never happen, but it would be awesome. They have so much visual style with their album artwork to draw from. Queen would be great as well, but if we see another music pin I would bet on Led Zepplin or Iron Maiden.

    #25 6 years ago

Not a bad idea, but please no Adam Lambart anywhere on the game.

    #26 6 years ago

I'd buy a Queen. A pin, that is!!!

Dude no 15 year olds listen to queen.. What are you thinking lol

    #29 6 years ago
    Quoted from Sgtmax:

Dude no 15 year olds listen to queen.. What are you thinking lol

Perhaps you don't know many 15 year olds?

Every 15 year old who goes to big sporting events knows that when "We Will Rock You" is played, it's Queen. Then when "We are the champions" is played, after their team wins, they know it's Queen.

Mention "Bohemian Rhapsody" to any 15 year old and they will start singing the song, and shaking their heads head-banger style by the song's crescendo.

15 year olds have downloaded millions of Queen songs via iTunes, world-wide.

They represent a unique generation that enjoys the same music as their parents' enjoyed & still love.

I listened to Queen when I was 15, but that was almost 10 years ago. I would be in for a Queen or a David Bowie pin!

If you want to do a new band, and still cater to the Australians, do Tame Impala. They've got a classic sound and a wide variety of songs just on their first 2 albums. They were on NPR, and they're doing their first US tour (Extremely unlikely, I wouldn't expect this to ever happen).

The Flaming Lips would be a band that spans generations. Oklahoma changed their state song to "Do You Realize" about a year or so ago. Flaming Lips would be weird enough to make a pinball machine after. I would see a Twilight Zone-esque machine, with a bunch of stuff going on (Very unlikely, but technically probably more likely than Tame Impala).

Now another newer band that I would actually want to see? Broken Social Scene or Dinosaur Jr... I don't know why I even type this stuff out! I just get my own hopes up!

In summary, if they haven't had a screen printed t-shirt in Target or Wal-Mart, they're not going to have a pinball machine.

I think we are up to reason 15:

My wife thinks Queen would be a great pin!

Now, if she's happy for me to bring into the house another pin, if it's Queen, then that's the best reason I can offer at this stage!

perhaps you are projecting your "want" onto 15 year olds?

you are tossing out unsupported "data" (data used VERY VERY loosely) in a desire to convince others...

you'd be much better off trying to make the case for a queen pin without trying to convince people that 15 year olds would flock to it because of the theme... that dog won't hunt...

    #35 6 years ago

One of the greatest singers and bands of all time. I'm in!

    #36 6 years ago

A Queen pinball machine would have done well in the late 70's/early 80's as a Bally up against Kiss, Rolling Stones etc.
Not so sure how it well it would do today.

    #37 6 years ago

For those unaware, Aruze ( the former Universal Distributing; makers of several brightly colored "left-right-fire" video games in the early eighties) introduced Queen slot machines a few years ago at the G2E show. Complete with a Freddy Mercury look-alike model jumping around the booth banging on a guitar and several other props. The slot made it into casinos in 2011. Granted, the slot player demographic is older than location-based pinball players.

I have it on good authority that Stern's next music pin will be Green Day.

I think a Guitar Hero pin would work perfectly. They could partner up with Activision and would have a ton of footage from the games to use for the LCD. You already have iconic characters with Guitar Hero, Johnny Napalm, Axel, Judy etc. I can see starting out just like in the earlier games playing garages and finally working your way up to playing stadiums and then to Heaven or Hell as the wizard mode. Make it so JJP!

The song Under Pressure is one of my favorite songs and having a goal based multiball with the words "under pressure" being sang could be interesting.

I much prefer the Vanilla Ice version ...

All these posts and no one gave reason number 6 as OP requested? I'll give it a stab.

    6. Because the bad ass theme song from the movie flash Gordon wasn't in the flash gordon pin and that song rocks.

I will even give a seven.

    7. Because the movie Highlander (which had NINE Queen songs) never had a pin and you could combine the themes.

    god awful idea

Metallica just released a new movie and is touring around the world selling out arenas. While Queen's music plays at sporting events where I am sure that the majority of the crowd has no idea who is singing or really cares. I am pretty sure the crowds sing along because they are catchy songs not because they are fans of Queen. They play Rock You Like a Hurricane at most sporting events too and I don't see people lining up to buy a Scorpions pin.

Scorps are my favorite and I know it will never happen. That is why I want a monsters of rock pin with various classic rock artists each getting a song. In the end the only music pin I think that has a chance is Iron Maiden who I like as well. But not the biggest fan of Bruce and his anti American comments from time to time. I still think this pin will work as long as we get the older great songs in the game and not the nes boring stuff Bruce will want in it.
