Anyone ever see these "comma" shaped things show up on the display?
There's also a few "dashes" showing up here and there
This showed up after storing for a few months, then moving the game

Quoted from nephasth:

Alpha-numeric display. Try reseating the connectors.

Will try that - thx

Quoted from yzfguy:

I came here for the system 11 DMD hybrid pics

Sorry to disappoint - title changed

Update to this thread and same questions.
Anybody ever see this and know the solution?

It appears the bottom half is OK and the top half is all “dashes and commas” ...

Does that point to anything?

I would have no problem buying a new display if that was the issue

ribbon or bad segment row driver chip

Are those chips on the display circuit board or in the back box?

Ok ... I swapped out the Jokerz entire display AND ribbon cable with my Roller Games and the problem followed.

So, I thought the logic chips that ran the display are on the display board itself. Is there another set of chips on the CPU board I should look at?

What I know:
1) it's not the display (Roller Games display showed exact same garbage)
2) it's not the ribbon cable (used the RG cable and problem remained)

What's next. I have the schematic but cant find chips that drive the upper display?

Thx guys for any help!

Quoted from GRUMPY:

It's a CPU problem in the Jokers.

Thanks for the info ... to clarify, the CPU board is the source? Do you have suggestions on specific chips?

Quoted from GRUMPY:

Maybe u-41 or SRC 2. Since it's the G segment and the Comma and they both go thru SCR 2 pins 8 and 9. The SCR maybe cracked after pin 7. You can check the resistance of the SCR. You check from pin 1 to pin 2, pin 1 to pin 3 and so on. All should be 4.7k ohms. Pin 1 is marked with a white dot on the board.

Thx. Will do tonight. Super helpful. It also helped me find the info on the CPU schematic. See below. Yellow for SRC2 and then red circle around “G” and “COM” (short for comma). Never knew that was what it meant and this helps me going forward on other games. I Still don’t know how you ID which display it was - as in upper or lower. In any case, thanks again and I’ll report back later

Tested the SRC2 and also took a few pics. It's a mess of corrosion so I'm going to replace it

Is this the correct part at GPE?

Here were my readings in K ohms
Pin 1 to 2 was 4.8
1 to 3 was 4.9
1 to 4 was 4.7
1 to 5 was 0.5
1 to 6 was 0.4
1 to 7 was 0.4
1 to 8 was 0.3
1 to 9 was 0.2
1 to 10 was 0.2

Quoted from GRUMPY:

You can use this part, but you need to cut off pin 10 and make sure it doesn't touch the board when installed.

I think I would pull all of the resistor packs and clean up the board then install 5 new packs.
I would also replace C-30.

Will do on replacement as they look terrible and will probably fail in the future

Would this one be the direct replacement for SRC2?
