There was plenty begging people to send money for a lot of different things.
Which initially some people did contribute to the flooded basement and sump pump. Maybe other cries for $$$$ help.

47 1/2 years of experience in my arcade and what to expect. When I'll be busy. When it will be slow. When no one will be around. Everything learned out the window when I was shut down for 3 months.

Things can come up. And customers looking forward to it are disappointed. Or might seek it elsewhere. Then all you've accomplished is promoting your competition.

You only get one chance to make a first impression.
You want repeat business. Do everything you can to earn it. Look professional, for a tech.

Back in 1981 when times were great and I got a pinball cart, appliance dolly, lift gate, or again early 1990's when times were good. Why the heck I didn't bother to get an Escalera or similar dolly then ?
