I bought my escalera second hand, and it’s very well used and old. The invoice shows it was purchased in 2002, and the gentleman I bought it from used to rent jukeboxes out he said it was used every day for over a decade. I’ve been thinking of tossing in a new drive unit just for the sake of “it probably needs it” but didn’t know how to go about doing it.

Let's get things clear. I'm not hating on anyone. Just poking fun. I will never do any designs that promote anything more than good fun. Plus I really liked the Dunkin Donuts spoof logo I came up with. The t shirts are printed with Spreadshirt a legitimate company.. I just redirected the domain name to their website.

Although I have a few projects I want to do (such as needing to buy a laser or CNC cutter for a pinball related business idea I have), I'm not in need of a fundraiser.

PS - spaytheboob is funny. Originally I tried the logo with a boob instead of a dollar sign. I also tried the word boob with two boobs but in the end I just wanted something I could wear to work and not get in trouble.

You may wanna consider borrowing Otaku’s magic wand.

In my 25 years of collecting I’ve met such a diverse group of people who come together in their love of playing pinball. Some were salty old time operators and a few others in need of a shower but all great people.

Did the name gameseum ever get trademarked? Seems like he was threatening to sue when someone was going to use it the last time. Every time I hear the name it reminds me of the scene from GOTG2.

So, I'm sorry to report that after 2 hours of dripping sweat and cursing (and cursing Otaku at times), I was unable to replace the chain on the Escalera. If any of you have ever had to work on your unit, you know what I'm talking about. Everything is so jammed up in there, it's almost impossible to get to the things you need to unscrew to replace the chain. So you have to remove the entire center drive unit as per Escalera's instructions...and it winds up coming out with the chain assembly on it. Then the original chain doesn't seem to have any links that come apart. All in all, I realized I was going down a path I didn't feel comfortable with, and since I have to move a jukebox this week, I couldn't afford to completely bork my machine.

I said screw it and put it back together...and that's when things went from bad to worse. To get the center drive unit back in, you have to reattach these four 1" bolts on top, and screw in the axle and jam nuts. But the four bolts would NOT go back into the holes correctly. It literally took me an hour and trying four different wrenches to get them back in. It didn't matter how I lined the holes up. They finally went back in, but at least two of the four seem to be going in on an angle. A complete nightmare, and I wasted my time because I got nothing done except grease the giant drive gear while I was in there.

So I strongly suggest if you have an Escalera, don't even bother trying to fix it yourself. Which leads me to a big question:

Who the hell is going to fix my machine now? I don't want to send the damn thing to California.

Ugh. Sorry to hear about that. Someone is going to have access to a machine shop and get you sorted out. Sadly I don’t have access to what I did in the past but my guess is someone here does.

Do you see how this isn't resolved? That's sending a couple of parts doesn't make "all corners" happy? Boob is stuck with a damaged machine he can't fix and you have trailers full of games you can't use. Just doesn't seem right to me.

All sales of paytheboob t shirts should be donated and put towards a new escalera for beezleboob.
Let’s prove Steven wrong next Wednesday by showing him what the pinside community can offer to those who are respected on these forums. Maybe then he would realize the opportunity he wasted with you guys who were here for him from the start.

That's really awful you couldn't fix it boob. Probably the best thing to get it in a good working state again would be if you could get it somehow to escalara and have them repair it or refurb it. Or call them and see if they have an authorized repair place out your way that can fix it. It's going to cost some good money and then some especially if it has to be shipped. After that, I would consider filing an action in small claims court and try to recover the money.

Didn't that message from Steven/gameseum or whoever flat out say they would pay for repair work if necessary???

They flat out need to be told of this, in my opinion.

I've reached out to Zach at FlipNOut to buy a new one. I'm hoping he gives me a good price considering the circumstances. I'll be selling this Otaku-blessed one with the new chain on the marketplace soon, just as soon as I can figure out a price.

Oh...and I'll be buying one of those awesome t-shirts from yuppicide so that I can donate to my own cause.

Thanks again to everybody for their support...I'll probably call Escalera tomorrow to discuss my options, but I'm really not going to throw any more money at this. The unit works fine as it is--it's just not the nice unit I bought.

Well, in my opinion, if you purchase a new one and sell your old one, the MINIMUM Otaku should owe you (in court or not) is the difference out of your pocket!!

Really should get something above and beyond for all the hassle, efforts, etc....but that would be a joke to expect, sadly.

It’s to bad there are no shows / expos to attend. You probably could have raffled off the famous working broken Escalera.

Or hand it off so it could go in for repairs.
