I believe WOZ in ticket mode does this.
Also Gottlieb's Goin' Nuts does this in a really weird way -- for one thing, the playfield has no outlanes. it starts you off with a 3-ball multiball, during which you build up a timer by hitting shots, and when you get down to one ball, the timer begins counting down. this is how long you have to re-start the multiball by hitting one of two difficult shots, otherwise the flippers go dead and you lose your ball.
