Had a blast at my first trip to PAPA this weekend. Seems like they must have about 75% of all solid state games produced in the house, which is incredible. So many curiosities you never see, like Varkon, Joust, Motor Show, Orbitor 1. Which got me thinking: what are the top SS games PAPA does not have, that would be cool to see in the collection? Off the top of my head, some candidates, based on gameplay/historical import/novelty, and excluding games with less than 10 produced. Since this was my first time there, I have no idea how often the machines rotate in and out.

    Big Bang Bar
    Defender
    Hercules
    Radical!
    Mystery Castle

    #2 9 years ago

They definitely have a top notch radical there. Had to play it in my bank at pinburgh this year.

I noticed on all of PAPAs videos that their machines are in just impeccable shape - everything from their EMs to DMDs. Are all of their machines pristine? That is one seriously awesome collection if so.

It's insane that this place even exists. And I mean that in a good way.

Does anyone know the story of how it came to be? They aren't open to the public, and that building is huge...so they have to be running a pretty high deficit. Was it just some really rich dude who loves pinball?

Didn't see it there for PAPA, guess it was sold/out for repair...

    #6 9 years ago

I don't think I've ever seen these there:

    Data East Royal Rumble
    Data East Monday Night Football
    Data East The Simpsons
Data East Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
    Data East Batman
    Data East Playboy
    Stern Playboy
    Capcom Kingpin (duh)

I did notice that they added a Data East Back To The Future at PAPA this year & a Sega Godzilla was added earlier this year at Pinburgh, so new machines seem to pop up at each event.

    #7 9 years ago

I don't think they have a Spirit, Stern Viper, Iron Maiden, or Sharpshooter II. Also the obvious rarities like Goin Nuts, King Kong, Krull, Loch Ness, etc.

They are also missing some Sega/DE titles like Maverick, Lost In Space, Space Jam, Viper ND, etc.

    #8 9 years ago

Gottliebs seem to be the biggest missing link in the collection???

    #9 9 years ago

I think its hard to say what games they dont have compared to what games they dont have on the floor, for example I did not see Xmen anywhere and I know they've had one there in the past. Also a lot of the machines they use in the tournaments (mostly the Classics machines) are stored somewhere else in the building when not being used in the tournament or for Pinburgh

    #10 9 years ago

Not all of the machines are pristine - as expected some of the early SS and EM games have a little playfield wear. But, the games play very well. It's an amazing facility.

    #11 9 years ago

Congo was so dirty that the lower PF was almost impossible to see through the window. I had a newfound appreciation for my pins when I got home.

    #12 9 years ago

I don't remember seeing a DE Secret Service or Gottlieb Robo-War there.

Yeah, I was looking for all of the games in Pinball Arcade and didn't see either Teed Off or Victory (or Big Shot if you want to count EMs). I did see a bunch of the other Gottliebs though.

I also didn't see a High Roller Casino or a Harley Davidson 3rd Edition for the Sterns but its possible I could have missed those. I'm sure there are a bunch of solid state games they're missing if you really went through the lists.

    #14 9 years ago

    Games I did not see:

    Beat the Clock
    Fireball Classic
    Ding Dong
    Charlies Angels
    Raven
    Monte Carlo
    Triple Strike

    Games I did see:
    Waaaay too many to mention!

    #15 9 years ago

My first time going this last weekend too. What an amazing place. I drove in 2.5 hours to check it out. Stayed for about 6 hours playing. Cost about $30.00.

Played so many games I've never played before. Some that I really liked: DH, FS, Mario Andretti, Blackwater 100. Disappointed somewhat in BR. Thought it would be better.

All in all, if you're within a few hours drive, get to papa next year! Great place. Wasn't too packed either AND it's pretty cool watching the Division A guys play in the tourney. Very serious stuff. haha..

    #16 9 years ago

All of those mentioned here (definitely no Radical or Maverick on the floor at PAPA), and also...

    - Road Show
    - Vector
    - No Zaccaria EM's (except Aerobatics)
    - X-Men
    - Game Show (I don't recall seeing one)
    - Vampire (EM)
    - STTNG? Don't recall this one either
    - Firepower II
    - Centaur II
    - Fipper Football
    - Class of 1812
    - Comet
    - Cyclone (?)
    - DE Star Wars
    - Frankenstein
    - Baywatch
    - Mata Hari
    - Operation: Thunder
    - Elvis
    - Wipe Out
    - Either Super Mario game
    - Power Play
    - Grand Lizard?
    - Breakshot
    - Diamond Lady
    - Bone Busters
    - Popeye
    - Party Animal
    - Star Gazer
    - Arena
    - Dungeons & Dragons
    - Millionaire
    - Superman
    - High Roller Casino
    - Barb Wire
    - Hollywood Heat
    - Raven
    - Bad Girls
    - Rock (encore)
    - Gilligan's Island
    - Waterworld
    - Bugs Bunny BB
    - Mr/Mrs PacMan
    - etc......

That said, they do still have a killer collection. Maybe 25 out of 300-400 games were turned off. Only saw one woodrail that was turned ON. They do all play pretty well, and most look pretty great too.

    #17 9 years ago

Played a class of 1812 there....

    also cyclone

    Also Sttng

    #18 9 years ago

What Blackbeard said - also, they definitely had a Game Show. As far as any EMs, of course they don't have most.

    #19 9 years ago

    was there a bad cats?

    Quoted from Whysnow:

    was there a Bad Cats?

Yes. Or should I say Meow

    #21 9 years ago

I think GL and Millionaire might have been the only Sys11s missing, which is pretty incredible.

    #22 9 years ago

They do have some of the games listed in this thread (Xmen, Radical, High Roller Casino), but they can be easily missed even with multiple walk throughs of the facility. They also could just be in storage in the back. I know Radical and HRC was used at PPO a few weeks ago.

They are always looking for games they are missing, so if you find one they might need, let them know.

    #23 9 years ago

I played a Mata Hari at pinnburgh earlier in the year and they had a power play in classics 2 this year.
They have a great variety of games there and considering they had about 400 games get
wrecked in the flood, we are lucky that this place even exists.

With only one full time tech there, not every game will be clean and in perfect shape, I think
they prioritize the games that they use for the tourneys and I am sure there were issues with a couple that
were set up for the divisions. I think their tech does an excellent job !

I have about 20 set up and always have something to fix. Having 400 to keep going has to be impossible.

    #24 9 years ago

1 tech for all those games?

Hmmm. I think I might have to give them a call. They're pretty close to me, and I think I could lend a hand.

    #25 9 years ago

Actually thinking back to it I don't remember seeing any of the DE/Sega large DMD games.

They have a Batman Forever. And I saw at least two different techs working there this weekend.

    #27 9 years ago

I've watched videos of some if the 'missing' games that were filmed at Papa, so they must have been in storage.

    #28 9 years ago

Focusing any time and energy on the pins that PAPA >>DOESN'T<< have?!? Smh.

    - High Roller Casino

PAPA has all of these, and in many cases multiples of them. If some were missing, it's because they're either on route in the local community or were being used in a tournament. Also, we're always adding games, so if you have something we don't, we're only an e-mail away.

The collection started with Kevin Martin buying PAPA from the previous owner and building up the collection and the building. I believe it's now independent of him, however.

At this point, PAPA is a brand owned by the Replay Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit. The Replay Foundation runs the PAPA World Championships and soon the ReplayFX Arcade & Gaming Festival, which will include Pinburgh. Kevin is on the board of the non-profit. The facility is managed by a dedicated team of locals to the area.

I think the Replay Foundation does the Pinball Community a great service. Have been to three events there now. I finally got to go to Disney last year for a week mainly for my kid. Papa weekends are my Disney!

There is one full time technician at PAPA. There are also a few part-time techs that help out at the events.

That said, I don't think every one of the 400+ pins at PAPA will ever be 100%

    Quoted from luckymoey:

I'd be really impressed if you where able to put that list together from memory.

Haha! No, the first half was memory, the next just top 300 games (as much as I could remember). Didn't mean for it sound like they were missing a bunch of games, just following along with the topic of the thread, and they still have a GIANT collection currently in the building and ready to play this past weekend. I'm sure they own many, many more games as well. I just thought the thread was talking about games that were currently there. Same with with the PHoF, Tim has way more games than he actually has in the building and available to play. PAPA was really clean, very nicely laid-out and the games were in top-notch condition. Every pinhead must make it a point to visit the facility as soon as possible!

that's cool you like your games, but PAPA Is the sh*t.

I wasn't dissing PAPA. I'm not that stupid, and I'll never have 400 games...nor would I ever want to maintain them.

    #39 9 years ago

We go to PAPA every year. I did notice things weren't quite up to the same standard as last year (more dirty and broken games than prior years.) But that said, it's still an amazing place. Highly suggested. Also go on Thursday, less people, easier on the ears too. video taken on thursday:

A 100% working pin is a rarity. There's ALWAYS a bulb burnt out or a socket that needs cleaned, or a switch that needs adjusted.

400+ pins, I can imagine how many bulbs and sockets that would be.

I'll be giving you a call soon to discuss working there.

We spoke a few times earlier this year, but we just couldn't get our schedules synced.
