I just sold my Jurassic Park and am interested in a Star Wars Trilogy. I have never played SWT and was wondering how the two compare. Which one has better gameplay?
Well if you like star wars, the pin is great, i like the sounds, animations and missions, ohhhh and the toys on the pf are awsome
I used to own a SWT and I'm going to purchase a JP from a local friend....so while I dont have any experience on JP I have many games logged on SWT. I'm not a very good player, so take that into consideration when you read my comments on SWT. I was never able to really defeat the game per se. I could never complete all the objectives needed for wizard mode (I could never complete the super jackpot in conjunction with completing other objectives. Getting super jackpot is pretty damn hard IMO)
Good:
1. Theme/sounds
2. Xwing cannon / death star shot - this is a really cool shot as it does a great job of incorporating the movie into the game. I cant think of a better incorporation of a movie into a game than this. Its more well done than SWDE death star shot IMO (which I also owned and sold). The problem is the game sacrifices alot of the playfield to incorporate this shot. Its an awesome shot but it ruins the game as a whole. It takes up alot of real estate between the xwing on one side and the target bank on the other and creates a wide open playfield in the middle which alot of times causes the ball to just bounce around alot.
3. Super Jackpot multiball - this is hard to achieve IMO and its fun to try to achieve. Its necessary to complete this to get to the wizard mode.
4. Lots of modes (but alot of them really suck)
5. Falcon multiball is fun - and not too terribly hard to achieve
Bad:
1. Xwing cannon / death star shot - see above comments
2. Boring modes (some are ok)
3. No skill shot (the code was never finished)
4. Artwork is bad
5. Lack of shots (other than the xwing cannon, the main shots are the ramp, the orbit, knocking down tie fighters to get the more xwing cannon shot opportunities). There are other shots for sure but nothing real exciting.
5. Scoring is all multiball related. Some modes can award decent points but most are worthless.
Bottom line - if you are a huge SW nerd and can pick one up one the cheap go for it. You'll get to experience the game for awhile and then sell it once you tire of it (roughly 6 months).
What does the cab look like? These were notorious for wear around the flipper buttons... and that does help determine price.
Personally, I enjoy the theme and out of the 3 Star Wars pins out (not counting that rare one) I liked the game play on this one the best. The cab shows very little wear, the playfield looks very nice and the ramps look clear. I would say this one is worth $2K or better. I've seen ones with bad flipper wear, cracked ramps and\or dirty playfields sell over $1.6K so that is where I am basing my opinion from. In a small collection I don't see this as a keeper but in a 6+ pin lineup it's definitely a nice change of pace. While it does get repetitive it certainly is not easy to beat.
Yes, I do own one in a condition similar to the one shown here. I didn't like the stock sound setup so I installed the sub kit with 2 speakers in the head and now it sounds great. I also added some LEDs and they didn't seem out of place on this title.
