    Graph paper is easy to get a scaled down model. 1 block = 1 foot.

    I've done this and it's embarrassing to let anyone see it.... Total geekdom project. Works like a charm though and you never are 'done' - you are always rejiggering things in the layout so having the quick ability to move a piece of paper works great.
