Have you tried physically cleaning the socket?

Hey GP Owners. I'm nearing a powered up Sharpshooter with a new MPU-2 on the way. After going through the playfield in an intense cleanup I found I'm missing the roll-over wire at the ball drain. The switch and the bracket for the wire are all there but the wire is missing. Does anyone have the part number for the wire or know of a decent replacement?

I’m working on getting my Cyclopes up to snuff. I have two cracked pop caps so I made three new ones. Here is an original and my repro.

Super Nova arrived today. Cabinet, play field, and back glass all look great. Should be interesting as I am an EM guy.

With regards to the pin connectors in the head, are these all .084 size pins and sockets? These are shown to be for 14-20 gauge wire. Aren't there 22-24 gauge conductors within the harness as well? The reason I ask is some of the colored plugs are red, yellow, orange, green, blue, and black. I read that the red is 22 gauge, yellow is 20 gauge, and orange is 18 gauge. Is there a key chart for gauge determination for the various colors?

I’m continuing to chip away at my Cyclopes. I was working on the right hand target bank last night. I downloaded and retouched the target decals that were on IPDB. Does anyone know the story behind the two different color schemes for them?

Hello I just joined the club with a GP Coney Island! Completely working which is great! Cosmetically not as great. I think it is missing a plastic and has two cracked ones. Back glass is really nice but playfield has wear. Are the plastics unobtainable or is there a good resource for them?

An amazing PLUS is it came with the original parts manual, repair manual and fold out schematics!

Picked up a nice Sharpshooter this week. Battery was starting to corrode. I cleaned it up, reseated the #26 MPU chip, found a stuck switch #302 “letter H” which was causing the Playfield Fuse to blow as the drop target reset thought that Target was still down.
Everything works now.

Does anyone sell the Drop Targets for Sharpshooter?
Is it best just to go get it 3D printed? Thx!

#270 5 years ago

No one makes them. You can do a search for a mod to use all Sterns with new decals. Will probably look better than ABS 3d Print.

Really liking this Sharpshooter. Good flipper control is made challenging by the lower pop bumpers. For a 1979 pin, the layout is great!

Been a member of the Game Plan club for a few years now. Originally I had a Foxy Lady cocktail about 8 years ago and had that up and running. I didn't find it very fun to play at all so off it went as quick as it came.

A few years went by and I picked up an Old Coney Island in the parking lot of a Chicagoland Show. It was pretty tricky to figure out why I had a row of switches out. It ended up being one of the diodes that is also associated with the dip switch bank. There is one associated with each row of switches. So, after I tried replacing several different chips on the solenoid board, someone was very helpful with that tip and it's been up and running since.

I picked up a Sharp Shooter II in 2015 and bought an Echo Lake mpu right away since the mpu had battery corrosion. I actually just got into setting this thing up and putting the board in it this past week or so. There have been a few struggles along the way, but both the sound board and mpu now boot fully and the game can be played. The last issue it seems is with the displays. If any of the displays are plugged in, it causes the sound or mpu boards to not fully boot, or the game to do random things and lock up at points.

If anyone has any info on possible causes for this please let me know.

I know I need to give Jim a call and see if he has any suggestions as well. I'm typically not around the game when he would be available though, so, in due time I suppose!

#275 5 years ago

How are the voltages at the power supply? Have you reflowed the connectors on the power supply board and changed out the big filter cap? The displays run on 5v so maybe they're stressing the potentially weak 5v circuit when plugged in, causing garbage/erratic behaviour/resets/etc.

#276 5 years ago

I’ve tested the voltage at the diaplays previously and it is good at all 5 displays. Figured id try one of my old coney island displays in the sharpcshooter II last night since all it would do is just not display the 7th digit since oci is 6 digit displays. That just verified that the mpu is putting out proper information to all displays now. Narrowing it down to the displays them selves. Wonder what happened that all of the displays would need board work. I should be able to test out the transistors and 3 chips on each display to figure out what needs replacing on each one now that i know the mpu is putting out good info to them all.

I have a Star Trip I am hoping to start working on soon. This will be my first Game Plan game. I am starting to just do as much reading as I can about these games and working on them. Question I have is, has anyone successfully installed entirely new flipper assemblies into their game? I have read that Stern Gen 1 flipper assemblies should work but can't find anywhere someone stating they have done it successfully. If you have done it, which coil did you use? Can you install the game plan coil on that assembly with the stern plunger? My problem is the right flipper has internally melted and has seized the plunger inside it. I'd rather just replace the entire assembly instead of trying to hunt down all the parts to rebuilt it and the left side, as I have read the normal parts you replace for flipper rebuilt are hard if not impossible to come by. Thanks in advance for any insight.

I replaced the flipper assemblies on mine with the classic stern ones from pinball life. i am pretty sure the original game plan coils fit in these. i can check when i get home tonight. But i do not have a cocktail.

Thanks much appreciated! Here is the assembly in the cocktail. I had just assumed game plan used the same assembly in the cocktails.

Hello everyone! I've been fixing up a Sharpshooter and just replaced the flipper assembles with the classic Stern's from pinball life. Flippers now work but I noticed they are not the same part. Anyone know where I can buy a flipper that works well with Gameplan? The old ones that someone put in this have been rubbing on the playfield and have worn it down. I'm wondering if something like this will work:
https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/A-3994-5
or
https://www.pinballlife.com/classic-stern-shoe-and-shaft-flipper-bat-assembly-1977-1980.html

Are all flipper shaft diameters the same?

I also need to replace the flipper button switches, they look original and really pitted. Would this work:
https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/SW-10A-48

Thanks!

Pinball Life can fix you up with what you need. Just send him an email.
I think I used unmarked Williams bats.

It’s more likely cracked bushings than the actual bats.

+1

Definitely replace the bushings, they're cheap and easy to replace if your taking the flipper bats/paddles off anyway...

Years ago I bought new GPI cocktail games (#StarTrip and #Vegas) for two friends. They still have them today and will not not part with them. I know because I'm the one who does the maintenance for them.

Just finished my cyclopes and dialed it in.
What an awesome game!

Lots of fiddling with drops:
Gottlieb drops work as long as you shave a bit of plastic off the back to make it flat. Then, I had to add some washers to the screws on the back of the mech to allow free movement of the lever arms.
Then the stand-up targets need to be adjusted so they’re far enough back so to allow the drops free movement when hit.

Had to also adjust the lane guide behind the mini flipper back a bit. Otherwise the bat stuck out too much and made the lock shot too tight.

Also added resistors to the lamp board (like I do with bally/stern games) to remove led flicker.

And I found out, early Stern plungers/links and coil stops work great.

Really great work and sleuthing to put it together and shop it out!

I would really like to have this game. Being way out in the desert where pinball machines are few and far inbetween anyways, makes this a very difficult feat. If anyone has a players machine and wants to let it go, reach out to me please.

That sharpshooter is looking good! I got my sharpshooter for $250 but it wasn't working and needs some playfield restoration. But the cab is in pretty good condition. Got a new game board and backglass and have been playing some games on it. It's coming along...slowly. I've already put more money into it than it's worth.

#294 5 years ago

I had my Sharpshooter touched up and clearcoated by HSA about 5 years ago. They almost wouldn’t take the job. “Why would anyone want to clear a Sharpshooter? It costs more than the game is worth!” But I would sell every other game in my collection before giving it up.

You may be pleasantly surprised for all your efforts. Sharpshooter is a surprisingly fun, addictive game. My buddies and i have spent entire sessions just playing Sharpshooter all night!

I randomly went to a pinball show in 2011, I didnt own any games and wasnt into pinball at all. My kid was like "can get buy a game" So, knowing zero about pinball, there was an Attila the Hun there for sale, so we purchased. Fast forward to today, I have 25 games and have graduated to buying NIB stuff. Attila is probably my favorite out of my collection since it was the very first. I recently bought about 2,500 LEDS to convert all my games that did not have LED, I of course shorted out a string on attila , I should have left it alone.
