Quoted from DefaultGen:

It has maybe the most fun upper playfield of all time, code should hopefully make it more important. I like crowded feeling games and don't need every game to be balls to the wall fast with safe returns for combos, TZ and WOZ are two of my favorites, so premium all the way for me. Plenty of people are just the opposite and say every pro is better because things like drops and toys slow down the gameplay.
Edit: Downvoted for explaining what kind of games I like, why I like the premium, then saying why he might like the pro. Pro Police in full effect

"Pro Police" First time i've heard that one. Too funny!

My recommendation is play both extensively then buy the one you like more. I played the both and at first liked the pro more so than LE, but once I put more than a few games on LE and started using strategy play on LE I preferred that one over pro. I do think that the LE/PREM will get better developed rules and features later on. Just look at TWD LE/PREM Walker bombs are a MUST have for that game. I say this because I am upgrading my pro to a PREM later on.

I'm sort of in the same boat...I have the funds available for the Premium, but I'm not sure how it feel after 100+ games. Will the upper playfield offer enough variety to make the whole game feel better? I DO like that the upper playfield can be a source of breaking the flow. While I do love a good flowey game, it's sometimes nice to be able to slow down a bit.

I played several games on GOT premium this weekend and I still prefer the gameplay on the Pro.

#55 8 years ago

Now that I have 300-400 Premium games under my belt, I'd love to play a Pro again. My initial impressions after 10-12 plays on location (with zero clue on rules/objectives) was the game felt "thin". Would be interesting to see the differences now!

My local arcade is supposed to be getting the Pro & Premium. Not arrived yet.

I feel the upper playfield is an extension of the game. It does not stop the flow as your hitting the ball with a full size flipper faster then you would on a pro if you hit the ramp.

Disagree. I've played the hell out of my pro and also put 20-30 games on a prem this weekend. Something that is not possible on the prem is hitting the right ramp over and over and over again (a la warp ramp on ST). That is much faster in the pro. Doesn't mean the prem sucks, just one of the many things that is different from the pro to the prem.

None in my area that i know of to play but i herd such good things about the game.

You can play a pro version at Red Zone Grill in Fairfax, its about an hour south of Baltimore(without traffic). We play it in league and everyone is enjoying it. I would get the pro and buy another game with your surplus if you have space.

I bought a premium but gonna convert it to a pro. The fabled Promium.

This would be the first Stern that I would personally get a pro instead of a premium or LE. I felt the upper playfield was boring and a chore. After a bunch of games I found myself avoiding being up there and going for other shots instead. I do like the artwork and lighting better on the premium so it's a tough call.

#61 8 years ago

Having played both the LE and a Pro, it feels like the upper playfield just isn't all that interesting right now. That being said, I am sure Stern will make it a lot better as time goes on and the light show on the LE IS pretty rad. Not thousands of dollars rad, but definitely well done. I think the premium will be the way to go in the future, while the Pro is the better deal now. If you plan on keeping it around I'd get the premium, but the pro is still a really fun game.

Is it because it breaks the flow and slows the game down? Or is it some other reason? Real talk, because I'm on the fence.

I think this one of those things that comes down to personal preference. I prefer the premium/LE, but also find the upper playfield fun. Not earth shattering, and honestly, I don't think there's that_ much difference between them. Yes, the right ramp on the pro returns the ball quickly to the left flipper, but ... to me, as a casual player, it's not that big of a deal.

I wouldn't attribute more than a few hundred in value to it, but do really like the RGB LEDs ... adds a nice effect during multiballs, callouts, etc. I'd be happy with either.

I like you was on the fence on Pro Vs Premium. Money was not the issue. While I did play the LE to decide on my purchase and really only played the pro once (watched plenty of other people play in person and tons of videos) The pro is a much faster flow game as far as getting the ball back to your main flipper more often and quicker. Now on the premium you are adding 2 more full size flippers, I feel on the upper playfiled I can play just like the lower flipper catch, flipper pass hold a ball etc. During regular game mode upper playfield shots get you closer to the Castle mutli-ball, which is not is the pro I believe. During house mode's the upper playfield targets extend time the first time around, clear them 2 times to light the castle (or maybe it is just 1 time) hit the castle shot collect that house's castle(I'm not sure you can collect a house castle on the pro?) and then the upper playfield shots become targets for you house mode you are in and as you hit them they increase the collectible value of the house when completed. So there is much to so on the upper playfield as it is right now, I do expect more to be added like others have said.

The drop target on the ramp can be turned off as well, its not a big deal to me, I like a challenge.

The Throne is pretty cool as well, while not doing much it is cool to see you ball land on the Throne.

The light show was a big factor as well, it is awesome if you like intense led lights.

The Pro may be the easier game as well with both ramps always returning to your flipper setting up a shot. The upper playfield will send it to you from the left orbit when you exit the back not really setting you up for a shot unless you control it.

#65 8 years ago

Here's my take, and yes I'm a pro owner.

The argument about the right ramp isn't just that it feeds the flipper quicker, but it's also a 'feel good' shot. The right ramp is a blast to shoot on the pro and average at best on the premium.

The orbits feel better on the pro. The left orbit hardly works on the premium and the right orbit does feel good but something about the orbits on the pro make it feel better, maybe cause you can follow the ball easier? It whips around FAST on the pro.

That all said; there feels like there's more going on and more to do on the premium. So it's a more technical full fledged pin over the pro with the extras. But I'm still not sold that those extras make it the better playing pin as of now. Code can change that and I do think the mini pf is great and fun to play but it needs more breadth in its code to make it worthwhile in the long run.

No, it has nothing to do with slowing the game down or breaking the flow. I just find the playfield boring and repetitive. A lot of mini PF's are satisfying when you are shooting them and achieving the goals, however on GOT it felt more like "here we go again" every time the ball went up there. So eventually I stopped shooting for the mini PF and when it would go up there I would just let it exit down to the flipper so I go for other shots. It's very repetitive and you basically do the same thing over and over to advance to MB. So I felt it was more of a chore instead of being fun.

As others have said I feel it could get better down the road as they release more code, however at the moment I prefer the Pro. This is just my opinion I would strongly recommend playing both versions first since they play very different. There are a lot of Premium and LE owners who enjoy the mini PF so it just comes down to personal preference.

Maybe down the road when they release a VE it will be the pro layout with the premium artwork and lighting

I was just at the Louisville show and played a Pro, Premium and and LE (at a local bar). I concur that you need to play both first. i Love the Premium art package. I thought it would be a no brainer that I would like to Premium more. Several pin friends said wait till you spend some time on the Premium and then make a decision if you want to buy one. After many games, I like it but not as much as I love the Pro. Who would have thunk ! I do not have either game either but may be getting a Pro. Moral to the story. Play them both !

I find myself back contemplating ownership of either a pro or premium. I've gone through the thread, but was hoping for more feedback from people that have put time on both.

I've always gone for the premium on past pin purchases as I like the extra toys and features, with this title I'm unsure. Without much understanding of the rules, I've played the pro several times and found some of the shots and game to be a blast. I've only been able to put a handful of games on the premium, but just never got anything going and it didn't seem to have that immediate fun factor. I'm not sure if that has to do with my lack of understanding the rules or if the satisfying shots just aren't there. Budget is not a factor in this decision.

I like the Premium Art
I like the color changing on the Premium
I like the shots on the Pro

Anymore thoughts on this?

Premium. Half the game is missing on a pro. But I repeat myself...

played all versions, i own a pro, no doubt, the changing lights on the premium/LE looks good, imo the LE looks incredible.
but at the end of the day you play the game, not the art.

ive played them both and recently had to make a decision on which i wanted to buy. I bought the Pro, not because of cost either i could of bought either. Gameplay on Pro is much more suited to my style of playing. There both great games so id recommend playing both and make up your own mind on which fits your playing style better.

Also half the game isnt missing on the Pro. The upper playfield isnt half of the game by any means but does cover alot of the game and takes the right ramp flow away and blocks the players view alot. Personally i couldnt get past the negatives of the upper playfield when playing Premium and Pro side by side. So if you like upper playfields id get a Premium and if you like a more flowing game with a faster overall feel get a Pro.

#72 7 years ago

I had both for a long time and can I have one word for you
PRO
Nuff said.

#73 7 years ago

Premium is much cooler and more fun - with one caveat: you have to get the left orbit working right.
That's the key factor inhibiting peoples enjoyment of the Premium/LE IMO.

Pro owners/players:
What features/shots exclusive to pro do you like best.

Premium owners/players:
What features/shots exclusive to premium do you like best. Any feature on this model you could live without?

So PRO is still the king?

#76 6 years ago

Pro. Because I enjoy keeping track of ball speed with non covered ramps. Can't get over how light this machine is.

#77 6 years ago

Pro is a much better playing game, prem does look nicer though

Going to bring this one back to life as I'm considering picking one of these up in the future.

I'm not sure if the final code was in place when this discussion ended, so this is also a good time to ask owners how they're enjoying it.

I'm debating either a Pro or LE. I want the game the plays best, and just has more to enjoy.

I'm curious to hear from owners of both, about how much they're enjoying the game, and if the code stands up to some of the top pins. I know this game doesn't get a load of love on Pinside ratings, but that's not what drives my decision to buy. I love this theme, and I want something that shoots amazing, and has great code. Also, I'm all about wizard modes, so hoping IT is a good one.

So...

I own a GoT pro and I prefer it over the premium/LE. I feel it flows much nicer and is not hunkered down by the huge upper playfield in the premium version. I do however prefer the lightshow of the premium but in my opinion is not worth the difference in price.
