I've been playing mine almost nonstop for the last two days. I haven't been this absorbed in a new title in years. WOW what a game. I was afraid the upper playfield would block views but once you learn the shots it makes no difference. The pro is a trip to the drag races, the LE is a road course, they're both great in their own ways. Kudos to Steve Ritchie, thank you sir for an AWESOME game. We have the speed of Iron Man and the potential depth of LOTR and this is just the first code release, incredible! The lightshow is the best ever. The whiteout for Winter is Coming and the mixture of colors when two houses are played at once is like no other light show before. Once again, WOW, and I never say that.

Quoted from beelzeboob:

Okay...I finally got my machine, so no more whining from me. Played great out of the box, but I just had to make an upper playfield switch adjustment tonight (that's a bitch, btw...).
ONE QUESTION: My elevator popper is struggling to get the ball to the upper playfield. The strength is set to 4 and return is 3. I can't figure out for the life of me how to set the strength to 5. Any idea how you change the values on that, or is it not possible? And if it's not possible, how do I fix the problem?

I just looked at mine. If you look down the elevator tube you will see four coil bracket machine screws extending slightly into the inside of the housing. This may or may not be the problem. The lower ones are probably too low to create any interference as there is no way for the ball to move to the side when initially launched. The upper ones could potentially take some ball hits. They are easily accessible behind the rear panel with the playfield pulled forward. I just removed the upper screws and put a flat washer in and reinstalled them. The screw ends are now flush with the inside walls of the housing after reassembly. Only remove one screw at a time and reinstall it with a washer. If you remove both screws the spring will pop off of the plunger and be difficult to hold when reassembling. I haven't played it after doing this and wasn't really having a problem to begin with but it certainly looks better and there is now zero chance of the protruding screw end getting in the way. I will test in the morning.

Quoted from beelzeboob:

Thanks, buddy. I'll wait to hear the verdict in the morning before doing anything. I'm still thinking there should be a way to program the coil strengths, unless the programmer does that and the end user has no control. Thanks for the heads up on the screws!

I just played four test games. Twelve launched balls were delivered perfectly to the upper playfield with no bounce backs. As I said before I only had a few instances of the ball needing a second kick to get it up to the upper playfield before. I would say go ahead and add the two washers to the two upper coil bracket screws. It's a ten minute fix that will cost nothing. I'm curious to see if this fixes your problem.

Quoted from beelzeboob:

Are we talking about the backbox latch here or the lockdown bar latch? Both suck on Sterns.
And JJP uses the older stuff because Jack hasn't started making cheap shit yet.

Have to disagree on that. The lockdown bar clamps hold the lockdown bar way tighter than the old mech did. Cheaper is stronger and tighter in this case. Lockdown bars on Bally/Williams games are almost always loose because almost no one knows they are adjustable and how to adjust them. The backbox bolts are also a huge improvement. Two screw, 30 seconds, done. No removing the backglass and struggling to line up blind bolts holes. That was always a pain and I'm glad it's been improved on.

#391 8 years ago
Quoted from beelzeboob:

WTF are people doing to their machines that THAT happens? I've never even had those screws stressed in the least.

WTF are they doing? They are playing their games!! Go enjoy your Game of Thrones!! There are a $hitload of guys who wish they had your machine and your busy dissecting it and scrutinizing minutia rather than playing the freaking thing. Come back after you put up 3 Billion points and tell us how much better it is than LOTR.

Quoted from beelzeboob:

I am enjoying it. Great game. But nobody's going to convince me that it's not cheaply made, nor that the bolts on B/W games are anything but optional in a home setting. Anybody that would beat the shit out of my machines to the point that they could destroy my backbox would be escorted from the house and never touch my machines again.

Excellent, it sounded like you weren't enjoying the game anymore because of the little stuff. I also like the new backbox bolts better because the old B/W backbox clamps almost always got bent or damaged when people would tip the cabinets onto their backs when moving a machine. The games were designed to be tipped onto their backs as they have the four plastic feet to prevent scraps but the latch itself has nothing to secure it when the backbox is folded up. I'll bet everybody here destroyed at least one of those clamps before they learned the hard way that the latch has to taped or have a rubber put on it to secure it before tipping a game. It is a horrible design.

I picked mine up today. Came loaded with v1.01
Plays fast and pretty fun so far but I had to make an adjustment on the gate leading up to the upper playfield. The ball would get stuck on the gate. I bent the gate up and the ball never got stuck again
But for some reason. While my ball is in play. I get "choose your battle" or "ball locked" all by itself. I don't know if this is a glitch in the program or if there is a switch being activated on its own for that? Any one else with this issue?

In test mode there is an "active switch" function in switch test. If you go there you will see which switches are closed.

Quoted from cooked71:

What are LE owners opinions about how the upper pf plays? Read a lot saying it doesn't interrupt the flow too much, but not so much how it plays. Doesn't look too hard with the full sized flippers.
Is there a lot to do? Is it well coded yet?
Wasn't the dragon supposed to fire back the ball?

The upper playfield is actually difficult. The target switches are tiny and the ball drain shots between the targets are huge. I'm hitting nothing and going straight back down half the times I'm up there. The right target is also backset behind the post and rubber next to it so it is extremely hard to hit. I can see installing a larger center target to narrow down the drains a bit and trying to space the right target flush with the post next to it somehow.

#480 8 years ago
Quoted from cooked71:

So there is a drain behind the lanes at the top of the upper pf. Do all lanes feed it, or just one?

Both center lanes from the upper playfield drain to the left orbit.

#482 8 years ago
Quoted from Esoteric_rt:

Has Stern placed a piece of mylar where the ball drops from the mini playfield into the left orbit?

Probably not. You can't see that area as it is under the mini playfield.

#487 8 years ago
Quoted from cooked71:

So you try to hit the targets and outer lanes without hitting the middle ones until necessary (depending on mode).
Are the outer lanes an orbit?

Far left lane is a figure 8 return shot that is fed by the right flipper and returns to the left flipper. The far right lane is the ball feed and protected by a rubber so you cant shoot back down it.

Mine did the same. Elevator was flawless before but six shots wouldn't get the ball to the upper playfield with the new code. This went away after power cycling the game. I'm noticing the Winter is Coming weirdness as well, there are no lit shots to go for. The download from Stern seemed unusually slow the first time around. I'm going to re download and reinstall just to see if it makes a difference.

#612 8 years ago

I just redumped the update. There are two ports in the Spike board. For some reason the lower port didn't open the memory stick but the upper one did. Maybe it says that somewhere but I didn't look. The elevator works perfectly again but I am having a problem with Winter is Coming. There is no lit shot to start the mode but the mode starts after hitting a phantom shot so you don't know its coming. Once you enter the mode there are no lit shots to go for. Hopefully Stern will address this soon or if there is an adjustment to be made someone will post it.

I have all the switch tech alerts as well. My game seems to have settled down a lot and is still a blast to play. I don't like how WIC is so much easier to start. I prefer to focus on the houses and always starting WIC distracts from that.

Does anyone know if the Pro update is experiencing issues as well?

#664 8 years ago
Quoted from cornycrunch:

I just played a few games on our location 1.18 pro. No issues with WIC. Blackwater jackpots and supers are much better balanced.
I did have a gaffe where, as Greyjoy, I made it to the last set of hurryups for Targaryen III, but none of the shots lit up, even after I restarted the mode. I don't know exactly what it is I might have done, because I couldn't replicate it a second time around later.
This may have just been a regression from earlier versions, but I had never made it that far in Targaryen up to this point.

I haven't made it to Targaryen 3 either so I wouldn't know what its supposed to do anyway. This game is so cool. You could spend a day just trying to beat Targaryen alone. Thanks for posting.

Quoted from oPinsesame:

I had exactly same. 4 on 1.01 and then 23 with 1.02. Game seems to work ok, except for inconsistent elevator. And the ball lock sword never moves (except in coil test). How do you clear the tech alerts?

You can't clear the tech alerts. Just wait for the next update. I'm sure it will be along shortly.

The 1.2 has otherwise been playing fine. If they took it down then I expect a quick fix posted.

Did WIC bug get fixed?

#937 8 years ago

New code version 1.21 is up at Stern. I'm downloading now

http://www.sternpinball.com/games/game-of-thrones/le

#939 8 years ago

So far so good. New code loaded into the game on the first try with no issues. No reboots necessary. Elevator is working fine and WIC is back to progressing normally.

#950 8 years ago
Quoted from TomGWI:

Did it fix the limp left upper flipper?

My upper flipper is fine. I can cradle the ball as long as I want and don't lose any power.

#955 8 years ago
Quoted from TomGWI:

I updated to 1.21 and only had time to play one game. The problem with my upper left flipper seems to be gone. I didn't notice it feeling weak and the strength seemed the same as the upper right. I'll have to play some more games to know for sure.

Same. It only happened to me a couple times before but hasn't happened yet with new code.

#961 8 years ago

Nice solution with the coil sleeves and shrink wrap. Did you try shrink wrap directly around the post without the coil sleeve? Maybe that way there would be room for two or three layers of shrink wrap which might add a little bounce to replace the removed rubber ring?

#962 8 years ago

I just looked at my machine to see what people are talking about with the left orbit. I pulled the playfield forward and rested it on the skis so I could roll a ball down the left orbit. I did see some forward bounce when the ball hit the diverter which could force the ball into an inlane rubber. I have plenty of space between the back rail and the inlane rubbers but can see how some people can have an issue with diverter alignment. Hopefully Stern can adjust this moving forward. Sorry some of you guys are having a problem with this.

#966 8 years ago
Quoted from capguntrooper:

I heat slinked around the coil sleeve, but I am sure you can do a few layers. I thought about heat shrinking around the in lane but with the coil sleeve it gives it maximum protection. As far as the diverter v groove there are two issues with it. One, the v groove is not milled properly and does not have a smooth transition and two, the diverter arm can also be milled incorrectly. With these two issues it is no wonder that some people have good left orbits and others do not. There just isn't enough margin for error when these are fabricated. I am sure Stern spend many man hours perfecting these two items, but there just was no account for margins of error from their supplier who fabricates these two items. I created two solutions to help those of us without perfectly milled components.
Slim Coil sleeves: These allow for more wiggle room past the posts for left orbit shots
Shield bracket: This allows a left orbit shot to have a smooth transition between diverter arm and v groove
After I test these out extensively I will start making them for people in need of them. Hopefully Stern will send out fixes for this at no charge. I do however see GOT LE/PREM owners having issues in future if they do not now after their machines are broken in.

Thanks for posting your efforts so far. Now I'm thinking do we really even need inlane post rubbers at all? Is there even a ball launch skill shot? I just shoot for the elevator on ball launch so trying to nudge between inlanes isn't an issue. I doubt the inlane posts would ever take a hard enough shot to break so why not just remove the inlane rubbers altogether if someone has a clearance issue?

Quoted from spandol:

Can anyone tell me the rules to the upper playfield while a house mode is running? You hit the lit targets on the upper playfield then hit the loop and it says, castle collected, but I'm not sure what that means as you still have to complete the shots on the lower playfield. Does it raise the values for the main house mode?

I was wondering the same thing. I assume you just get more points as you still have to complete all the lower playfield shots to complete the mode. This game is going to be a tourney monster in the future once everyone figures it out. I'm afraid I might just be better off with a pro because there's almost no way I'm ever going to get through this whole game, the pro is a bear as it is, the LE is a potential cerebral hemorrhage for an average player like me.
