This is like when KFC decided to throw $0.62 of extra leftover scraps from their normal meal service that they’d normally trash into a bowl and charge people $5

$0.62 of extra leftover scraps

That's being generous.

Tried one of those once, got ill.

I bought 50 GTFs but didn't list any in pinside collections to sow doubt and fuck with you all.

Yeah all ordered over the phone in a one week span. We heard about you…

I really did enjoy this game at TPF 2023. For me, and maybe I'm the broken clock here, this was more fun than any of the other new games at TPF (yep, even more than FF....I said it).

What sours me is the $16K price tag. 2021-2022 is over - AP missed the boat major big time with fleecing people. Should have stuck to $8K-$10K instead of trying to take us for a ride like EVERY OTHER manufacturer did (except you, Chicago Gaming...you get a pass, but since you never get games out anyways, I guess you can't fleece customers if there's nothing to sell).

Love the game, the overall aesthetic, the music and sounds - it really was a fun game. At $8K, you might have had me - might.

#60 3 months ago

They did mention something in this version that I’ve not seen offered in any modern machine and I’ve always wondered why.

A diamond coated playfield.

All I’m seeing here is that you need to play more FF

It has to be some of the most fun I’ve had on a modern stern in quite a long time.

He was busy shooting some more videos scenes as he's one of the pilot actors.

I could see this working... at this price... if they put some more vanity into it. For example, buy the signature edition and qualify to get yourself in the game! * Note- you must travel to Chicago at your own expense at a time of your choosing and we will film you or a person of your choice in the a live action scene to be added to gameplay (20 second tank launch). Pants required (sorry @crazylevi).

The signature edition was announced at TPF, wasn’t it? Didn’t a few people buy it already? So now they’re stuck with a shittier version of it?

Is it motorized like that one in a Expo video I saw?

No

Yes, we've known about the signature edition since TPF, I'm surprised so many people don't remember. Theres really no surprises in this video, all stuff we knew already for the most part. Yes I think 1 or two people have them already because I remember seeing one for sale on facebook, but it may have just been his preorder spot so don't quote me on that.

I figured they were going to just never mention this again. Crazy that they went through with it. I can't see this selling more then a handful

You and I both know I was originally in on a Prem. After playing it at TPF, I said "that's it?" That being said, my primary reason getting out is to keep saving for a massive downpayment on a home. Crazy to know what I have saved up now is nearly what I paid back in 2015 for a 2800 sq fr house with a 1K Sq ft added....oof

Now, maybe I absolutely need to be educated and mentored. Your CFTBL on location WAS the seed for me to buy one years later (2017).

On second thought, that sounds dangerous. Stay away from my finances .

There is a Deluxe Edition coming - exactly the same game with nothing meaningful missing and it is $9K.

This game is a ton of fun. I have the LE version but honestly, the Deluxe makes way more sense and it will be an awesome bang for the buck.

They already made some deluxe. Nearly 100. But rumor is the guy with the checkbook said they aren't making another game until they get rid of all those ridiculous tank parts they bought, so they're trying to force everyone into that.

#78 3 months ago

A stern pro with a theme people want costs $6999.

9K…11k…17k….seems like a tough sell to me regardless.

#79 3 months ago

GTF LE is coming to Wormhole Pinball in Houston in the next couple of weeks. Game has shipped. Looking forward to playing it.

David Fix has gotta go. Every decision he made about producing this game was entirely wrong.

-Nordman is a great guy & has made some classics, but he’s not infallible & he’s not marketable to current buyers. JJP made this same mistake with Lawlor & Ritchie. Elwin is the only current designer that buyers will buy on name alone.

-50’s kitchy campy sci-fi has been done & done well…it’s over. Modern audiences don’t care about it like Nordman/Fix/Franchi - and unfortunately they were too much in their own taste bubble to see it.

-Committing to horrible custom live action footage was an awful decision. It takes good actors to “act bad” in a funny way…these are bad actors with no acting/timing/comedy chops. It’s directed and shot cheaply which makes it even worse.

This game would have never sold well, but they could at least have had the foresight to have ditched the tank cabinet & the live action nonsense. Normal cab, motion comic style on the LCD, better voice actors…at least it wouldn’t have been EMBARRASSING. Ultimately most of us saw this thing launched and felt uncomfortable. We felt bad for all involved, for being so unaware they had created something so wrong for 2023.

-The tank idea was so so so so so soooo bad. This is a large heavy coin-op machine, not a tiny toy on a shelf. The fold up tank design made ZERO functional sense and thankfully most potential buyers saw that.

I’m glad you are excited to play the game, but did you really need to post the same thing in a half dozen threads? I guess we can look forward to you posting across a bunch of threads when the game shows up.

Literally was only 3 threads. Yes, I felt the need as you have the need to read all 3 threads. All Pinsiders are not in all the same threads.

We are free to post where we want to.

I’m with you on that, get the word out there for people to play the game. It’s a lot of fun and you can double flip past the video modes. You can’t appreciate the game from the videos, and especially not from the marketing, unfortunately. Zach Meny’s brief stream captured the game best. Great art, lightshow, modes, music and sound effects, and a cow hanging from a moving ufo target. Why all the hate? Yeah, save the ice cream is ridiculous, all the dumb fudge jokes, and so forth. Isn’t this pinball, dumb dad jokes, dated material? Even the newer Sterns have stupid jokes, Elvira, Rush, FF etc. All of pinball needs better comedy writers. Bring back SCTV!

It’s thanksgiving. I’m getting all of these dumb dad jokes FOR FREE and you are asking me why I don’t want to pony up $11-17k for the same experience? Except less funny? (My dad and my brother in laws dad are way more hilarious than fudge packing patrol force)

Don’t mean to sound grim but it’s over. I don’t see how AP can possibly survive this debacle. Said that when the first teaser video was released and nothing in the last 6 months has changed my mind.

Love the quirky theme and enjoy the gameplay but absolutely get the business side as well.
Agree with you both, is that possible on Pinside?
Maybe on Thanksgiving.

Thanks Brian!!!!

I really enjoyed the game when I played it in March. I played it more than any of the other new games. It does have some design issues that I wish they would change regarding the playfield. I have zero interest in the tank version, but I might be down for a deluxe if the kinks get worked out. At 9k, I want more than a prototype with the cheapest parts available.

#89 3 months ago

GTF, at least in concept, has great curb appeal for pinball and Sci-Fi fans like myself.
The theme is fun and campy and the art is top notch. I’m a below average player and probably have an above average number of games, so I’m the perfect customer! This is a classic example of a game in my collection that I would sell something to purchase and then probably keep it a year or so and move on to something new.

As a buyer, it has several barriers to entry for me personally.

1. Price. On a quick glance, the bottom tier “Deluxe edition” is $8995.00 at my local distributor. That is two thousand more than a Stern Pro. Also go to the AP website and try to find a price. That kind of thing drives me bananas.

2. Gameplay. It’s fun, but has some issues like the front and center stand ups.

3. Reliability. I hear a lot of “it’s not working right now”.

As always, I wish them the best and hope they sell a million games, but they aren’t closing the deal with me so far. I’ve yet to own a single AP game.

Theres a reason Nordman has been trying to get someone to build his tank cabinet idea for a decade plus but no company was ever dumb enough to do it. That is until the company that fell for a Jpop bamboozle came along. Paying the price now.

I’m just perplexed that Nordman was so committed to it. He’s been in this biz long enough to know what makes sense for this type of product. The fact that he knew well enough to bounce from Heighway & Deeproot before the ship sank made me think he had a good realistic sense of things.

Dang. Maybe they should have done their 50s inspired game with a 50s property that is still relevant.

IMO theme is like 10th down on the list with why nobody is buying these things. The theme isn't bad for an original theme. The art is beautiful. If pinball machines were decor (like some collectors treat them as), where only theme/art mattered... this would be higher up on my list.

reasons people aren't buying it:

1. its 17 grand
2. Hype/FOMO was over 9 months ago.
3. The layout is not great.
4. It's 17 grand.
4. First impressions of this game were terrible (videos/marketing, airballfest, etc)
5. Filled with cheap 3d printed toys. And you have to pay an extra 6k to have them painted.
6. Later impressions also terrible. Apparently constantly breaking at shows, on route, etc.
7. It's 17 grand
8. David Fix is sketchy as hell.
9. No major interactive mechs.
10. It's an original theme.

It's the theme... Slap a Star Wars on it and they have no problem moving units.

Not saying those other things aren't an issue, but they're an issue to a very small number of people who are not reflective of typical pinball buyers (ie pinsiders). Most people wouldn't look at it for more then a few seconds before turning their gaze elsewhere. The tank treads are super overpriced, but it at least grabs your attention for a microsecond
