That’s interesting! I’ve never seen wireforms like that, I’m in either way!
Quoted from Markharris2000:I want to like it, but I agree with you about the visual that you'd probably need more artifacts going up the arm to really tie-in. Perhaps simpler might be better (and save you some TIG time!)
Simpler basic hands just dont do it for me. First 2 pictures. I only looked into this as it was a request. I think the only way this works is whole hog. For it to work visually for me is to extend the top of hand pieces all the way to head (picture 3). And for my taste I would have to make shoulders around the head to really make it work. I can see what I want it to be in my head.

Throw in some EL lighting with a tracer effect that produces a small light show with path of the ball…oh man! Sorry, my imagination got away from me there!
Anyway, dig your vision here and your talent. Count me in!!!
Quoted from Loganpinball:Not sure... I would have to have more body going up to the head for this to work visually..Thoughts?
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
I agree to pull it off would probably be too much extra material and time but I like where you were going with it, it was a cool idea but your ramps alone are cool enough! - Thanks again for taking a look though.
Quoted from Loganpinball:I did not like the look either. It was just a proven drop. I had to figure out the best diameter die to shape it. It has to be bigger than drop hole, but not sure how close I could go.. It looks like this form will work! And I trimmed off the rings that were just to hold together. This is most likely the design I will sell.

Love this redesign with the slimmer lower sections at ball drops. Can only think of a handful of games that benefit as greatly as GOTG will.
These are badass. Well done again sir!
I would pass on the fingers. Sometimes less is more. Your wire form ramps look great without them. Wouldn’t add work time to it on top of what already it takes to make them. Great try but I would scrap them.

It's fun to watch your artistry in progress, and a number of us commenting really feels like we are collaborating on the design. What a great experience. I am already thinking about whether I will keep them bare metal as supplied, have them chrome plated, or powder coated in black or purple. (There some thinking ahead huh?)
Fair to say, you will land on a final design, and you'll end up with dozens of orders day-1, and after those are made, could likely keep dropping a few at the places like Little Shop to keep them flowing for so many of the HUO owners that don't follow this thread.

I agree, think it just clutters up the look and less is more, one of the main attractions to me of these wireforms is it reduces the amount of material (plastic) you have to look through to see the playfield / ball.

I agree with all the comments. I only tried as it was a request. I made a hand that I could lay on top to see if it worked, so it was easy to see.
I am trying to bang out the mandalorian rails so I can move on to these. Looking forward to something different.

Can’t wait to get a set for Guardians. Thank you for taking the time to do this. Great welding skills.
The craftsmanship of the Groot hand is amazing, but I agree with the comments to shelve it. Kind of reminds me of when the Terminator rips off his arm skin.

That’s where I have seen those before lol.
FWIW I think your basic wireform ramps look GREAT, and I've told anyone with a Mando to check yours out, will do the same with GOTG.
I just feel you get off track with any of the add-ons: dragon, hands, whatever, as they are impressionistic, and without factory plastics or shell they don't instantly convey what they are. Plus you're making a ton of more work for you

You never know if something works unless you try. And sometimes it works. (At least for me). It really depends on the machine. Gnr snake stands out and its easy to see. The Discovery machine I made is also very easy to see and goes with the theme. I like the dragon and actually sold a dragon. Everyone has different tastes. I don’t mind sharing my work. Surreal is listening to a podcast and getting beat up by a designer for altering his machine, while working on it. Yes that happened!

Definitely doesn’t hurt to try. It can look better or worse than on paper. A lot of times you need to see it mocked up to tell of it works or not.

Thanks. That was a better explanation of what was in my head. And on that note, I am starting the template board. And i am going to try hexagons as the supports for these wireforms. I am also thinking if this looks good converting the flashers with different plastic shapes at one of the hexagons like its the portholes. We will see.

I will offer the basic set as shown in the proto type wireform and the hexagon type as well. I want to work out the plastic I see in my head for the portal I think it might work out.
...
Extremely crude poly cutout over portal. I would like to get printed artwork close to screenshot on them. Not sure how, but I will look. If I can do that, then the flashers would light up portals and I think that would look awesome.

Well to be honest I am now an owner. I really enjoy the game. I bought it to just make the wireforms, but its a fun game and I am keeping it. The hexagons go with the theme and I think they look good. I want to keep on it, I just need to finish the Mandalorian run.....

The first picture in this note has two of the left ramps sitting on the board. It's pretty amazing to compare the left one which seems to be an early prototype to the right one as the design was refined which appears to be the near-final product. You are now definitely the the commercial grade zone for look and function.

It really *is* a fun game. I passed on getting one a couple of years ago, but finally decided to give it a try last month. Like you, I am keeping it as it just feels, fun, easy to navigate, and you can play mindlessly if you like without the need for following the rules too deeply. Your ramps will be one of the few MODs I add to the machine.
I tip my hat to you sir!

Thanks. The first wireform I make for anything is just to get the travel and placements down. The Mandalorian rails went through 6 revisions along the way, so these might change as needed. But, the hexagon looks so much better than open rails.
I appreciate the commercial grade comment. I think I earned it today. I only have 8 more Mando sets to do now. I spent 4 hours just forming all the parts to be welded this morning. And I blew through a tank of argon that I just got Friday. (I keep 2 for that reason). Here are shots of the “factory” (garage) from todays grind.

You would have to verify with platers. It can be done but it needs to be done correctly.

I picked up a cricut 3 machine. I want to see if it can do whats in my head. The hexagons are portals and I want to have hexagon shaped printed images of that portal around the wireform and tie in flashers to back light them. If I can figure that out I think it could really “tie the room together” (lebowski!). Just need to experiment.

Great idea. Keep us posted.
Mando is complete. Retooling the garage for guardians. Starting right ramp. I am trying to figure out an easier way to make the hexagons as I did them with a hammer and die for sharp corners. And I ordered the boxes for shipping.

I removed the stud and installed a 6:32 3 inch from under the playfield then a nut holds down sling. Above it are adjustable nuts to fine tune the height. I really dig this. Can alter ball drop without bending! The rail is now hard mounted to 3 different points and free supported at transition. Good day today. I really enjoy a different project. Mando was great, but draw or build the same thing over 100 times it got boring towards the end. A great problem to have.

303 stainless. Its tricky, but doable.
I was asked about the welds. I am not as precise as a machine, but I do the best I can weld by hand. Here are close ups of the one in progress. These are still not cleaned up, but you can see the welds. I stone, sand and polish them when they are done. I have not done any of that to these yet. When I am done I will post the pictures of them polished. The other last 2 pictures are a mando rail that is sanded and polished.

Its very simple to installl and led flasher board mounts on top. I am not having any luck with my printer. I am looking at a newer one just for this add on. I can weld mounts for flashers as they are. I will do that to my first rail so you can see the difference between them visually and then you can make the choice. I am trying to keep the costs down within reason as the labor hours are heavy making these. I know theres a tipping point on pricing for mods. I want to find the spot that works for buyers and for my labor.

Would accommodating the existing flashers be possible if you welded two or three "tabs" to the existing wire (approx in the current locations of the flashers) and then had a simple flat piece of PETG made to match? (Upkick in Dallas can knock those out with polished edges in any shape in minutes). The existing flashers could connect to the 4 new custom PETG pieces, and the PETG pieces could be mounted to the new tabs with matching mounting holes.
