So it's settled. You're only going to hear from a Sony lawyer.

Quoted from flynnibus:Did you finish your homework yet? No? Shoo...
You have a rebuttal to Aurich's assertion?
If not, shoo.
Quoted from Aurich:Stern doesn't own the trademarks to any of the games they make. They simply license them. Part of that contract requires them to be vigilant against infringements (they claim at least, I haven't read their contracts).
All well and good. The thing to understand is that beyond that they have no power. All they can do is report you to Sony, or whoever. You'll deal with a Sony lawyer, not a Stern lawyer, if it comes to that.
Here, Flynnibus, I'll ever quote it for you, so you don't have to be burdened with going back a page.
Quoted from flynnibus:Aurich doesn't know Stern's licensing arrangement... he's going off common understanding. The key is.. as I wrote previously..
When Stern licenses content to make a pinball machine, they would normally just arrange to have a non-exclusive license to make a pinball machine.. and probably work out some other legal arrangements to ensure the company doesn't license it to someone else as well in a nearby space. This is status quo.. and the world we've all always lived in.
The question is (which Aurich is not a party to).. has Stern changed the type of licenses they have pursued, to become exclusive licenses for the content within the pinball space. If so, it makes Stern a party that can enforce their rights, and it brings MUCH greater scrutiny than simply a far off big corporation who doesn't care about a little hobbyist community.
If it's status quo... people can ignore Stern or push back and ask under what standing they have any right to make such claims against them.
The real question is... has the game changed.. or is Stern just trying to bully people. Given Stern's new revenue stream of accessories... it could go either way. Only someone party to the licensing agreement, or who challenges them legally, will know.
Aurich is neither of those. So shoo yourself...
Hardly agree with everything he says, but he seems credible on this, and has some inside licensing knowledge these days.
You can believe whatever you like, but the moment Stern sues someone over Sony IP is the day Williams starts making pins again.
I'm done. We'll see if you can control yourself.
