I was playing my Data East Jurassic Park the other day and when starting multi ball the flippers and shooter died. I turned my game off and check the fuse. Fuse 5 looked toasted so I replaced it with 5a 250watt. I replaced the fuse, turned the game back on. The game was humming a bit louder than normal when it turned it on but went away a few seconds after. I started the game, flippers worked and shooter worked- for about 10 -20 seconds, then died again. I turned the game back off - sure enough the fuse was blown, but this time smoke was coming from the back box. I have my tech stopping by in a couple of weeks but really worried I fried a board or something worse. Any ideas ? Thanks.

Doubt anything you did. ( unless you over fused ).

Something on the board failed.

Since that fuse protects the 50 VDC and flipper coil circuits, most likely something smoked on the PPB board. A common cause, but not the only one, could be a cracked or broken coil diode, which would allow what can be described as a backwards surge to the board. When something smokes like that you might be able to identify it visually or by sniffing around, although that can be difficult once the smoke disperses in the backbox. Otherwise, standard troubleshooting is the next step (or wait for your tech if you have no electronics troubleshooting knowledge)

Let your tech check the big transistors on the PPB.
Those are for the Auto Launch, Raptor Pit and Right Vertical Up Kicker (VUK).
I think one of these three might be the cause.
You can point your tech to the Tech Chart on my website http://www.inkochnito.nl or download the file.

One possibility is also the bridge rectifier on the PPB.
