ive got a 1978 bally playboy machine and recently on turning on just keeps blowing fuse 4. can anyone give me any advice?

That is the fuse for the 43vdc solenoid power for the game. Start by unplugging J1 and J3 from the rectifier board and measuring your voltages with your DMM on the rectifier board and report back. You can find the info on what the voltages need to be on the PinWiki.

If it's the original rectifier board and it has never been maintained there is a good chance that Bridge Rectifier 3 is bad.

You mean fuse F4 on Rectifier board? Could be shorted Bridge Rectifier involved. Unfortunetally I don't have schematics in hand so can't help more. Somebody who knows that technology better can pinpoint better instructions to check things up.

EDIT: and Xenon75 had this needed info...

Test the bridge with your DMM on diode test / continuity beep mode. Probe around the four points, the only two points that should make your DMM beep is between the two marked AC. Watch a youtube video for detailed testing of a bridge.
