Loss Cat is my fave meme of all time.
Background - It was created and posted by artist R Land as a social experiment. Initially he created a flyer and posted it in his neighborhood and sat back to see what might happen. Would people notice it? Talk about it? Laff about it? Call the number? He didn’t have any expectations and yet he got some reactions. Soon he found himself posting copies of Loss Cat in other areas of town. Then he posted them throughout the city. His posting of them in cities around the US made it a real world meme. However with the power of the internet, it really took off as others posted loss cat online, that made it a virtual meme.
Why it’s funny - Well just stare at it for five seconds and you’ll notice it is total nonsense. What does the header mean loss cat? Does he mean lost cat? It looks like he scribbled this message with a crayon. Pic of the cat is a mess. He needs meds, omg. I wonder what he needs. Obviously he needs foam, but what else? Some words aren’t legible and others make no sense. Ok, now for the extra funny part. R Land made up the phone number listed along the bottom and it was non-working. He would dial it occasionally over the first five years and it was never in use. However, one day the phone number was activated and someone started getting calls about the cat. The phone#dude kept the number many years and the artist contacted him once too. And that was how he learned the final parts of the story. There were phone calls at odd hours from people “all over the world“ asking about the cat. It continued for many years, until the phone_owner disconnected that number. The artist finds much delight in the footprint it has left and continues to make.

The hotel one is cute, but apparently it is okay if you steal towels as long as you don't play the TV too loud, or vice versa.

Same method works for packing a cat in a cardboard box as well.
