That movie is so great that even Corey Feldman is good in it.

Plus classic great Tom Hanks without a romance angle/live interest.

So I feel like there are two categories here. Funniest movie of all time in title and then an opposite view in poll with most laughs per minute? Two different things-maybe change the thread title? You can't have your cake and eat it too-or can you?

-Funniest movie of all time-Caddyshack with Vacation in close second

-Most laughs per minute-well that is simple-Airplane by far. Let's talk LPM or laughs per minute if that is the basis...Airplane has an average of 2.4 laughs per minute while others have less like Superbad came in at 1.9. So technically speaking nothing compares to Airplane-almost like Seinfeld for Sitcoms.

Now let's take this one step further....does laughs per minute necessarily translate to funniest? That is where I disagree and feel like over the top slap stick comedy does not really count. Almost like a novelty pinball machine. Yes they are fun to look at and fun to talk about but not fun to play. I can watch Airplane maybe once every ten years or so and definitely not a classic for me.

Tucker & Dale vs Evil is my sleeper favorite but you have to like dark comedies

#304 57 days ago

Jekyll and Hyde Together Again, not the funniest movie of all time but worthy of honorable mention. Plus a young Cassandra Peterson has a small role in it.

So if you **feel** that the most laughs-per-minute does not signify the funniest, start your own poll "Name old comedies - VOTE!"

Don't forget: The Jerk, M*A*S*H, Houseguest, Sleeper, Seems Like Old Times, Meet The Krumps, Revenge Of The Nerds, Porkeys, Coming To America, Rush Hour, Three Amigos, Mrs. Doubtfire, Biodome, Wholly Moses....

We can vote for movies we haven't seen since we were 14, but fondly remember as the funniest because they are old, thus, they must be classics!

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073179/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_8_nm_0_q_the%2520irony%2520of%2520fate

Popular New Year's Eve movie in Eastern block countries.

You don't need to know Russian to understand. Facial expressions alone carry it on.

8.1 stars, that's more than most of the movies in this thread!

I don't where that list came from but it has a serious recency bias to it. Maybe the demographics of those participating in the poll. Nothing funny before 2000 apparently.

The answer is dumb and dumber. Not even close.

IMDB

But again, adults born after 2000 are as unlikely to choose Animal House as us Boomers would be to choose Arsenic and Old Lace.

It's funny, but way too before our time to be our favorite.

For modern comedies-Talladega Nights(not on list?) is right up there and also a pinball worthy comedy

The Eastern block movies. Having a little understanding of the cultural differences helps. Things like New Year's Eve is bigger than Christmas ( January 7th ) party all night, often out in the streets. And cities flattened during WW2 often rebuilt with similar streets and buildings. And one lock company. So it's easy to get lost and end up in wrong town or building. And often generations of a family in one flat or apartment.

@LTG. Classic Milos Forman. This one was illegal during communism.

I’ll admit that I was curious and gave this one a try.
But, it seemed more like a drama than a comedy to me.
Maybe I’m missing something?

"It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" is a top ten comedy classic for me.

I appreciate how Jeff Daniels has pretty much done one comedy in his whole long and successful career and it was one of the best comedic performances in one of the best comedies of all time.

Crazy, and then you have guys like Steve Martin who have made comedy their whole career and have only made one truly funny thing ever which is Planes Trains and Automobiles. I guess it helps to be the straight man to a guy like John Candy.

I'd say Something Wild was a pretty decent non-consentual comedy staring Jeff Daniels.

Funny story. About 20 years ago, I hosted a Western themed retirement party with about 300 people in attendance. I dressed up as a prospector, and I 100% stole the mannerisms and vernacular from the Blazing Saddles prospector. I don’t think anyone caught on.

Anyway, it was a hoot.

Man with Two Brains was really funny when I was a kid.
