I'm having two problems with my Funhouse. First the heat sink on the sound board gets red hot and after about six games the sounds starts cutting out. The previous owner had a cooling fan installed, I took the cooling fan out thinking I was just treating symptoms. Is a cooling fan the answer? How do I attack the cause of the overheating?

My other problems is the Hidden Hallway. It works as it should when the game starts but when I get to 11:30 and light the Lock Light, the game still kicks the ball back out into play and the clock does not advance. When I start the game up the coil that releases the ball in the Hidden Hallway cycles several times but eventually stops. Any ideas?

As far as the heating goes, it sounds like the amplifier attacked to that heat sink is failing. I would replace that first. No need to add a cooling fan. As you said, it's a bandaid fix.

As far as the hallway, it definitely sounds like a spotty switch or failing diode on that switch. I would replace both the switch and the diode on it for good measure.

I dont know what fail mode happens to them but i have seen some old tda2002/tda2020 amplifiers on pinball sound boards run really hot. Swap in a new part with out touching anything else in the circuit and the temps stay the normal pretty typically low temp.

Might check for wrong speakers installed but otherwise i'd put in a new amplifier.

When you talk about the amplifiers attached to the heat sink, are you talking about the large capacitors (4700ud) on the audio board?

5 pin TO220 things are the main amplifiers. There are probably two in funhouse attached to black heat sink.
