I am working on my Funhouse after a really long absence. When I turned it on (maybe a mistake) a capacitor on the sound board blew up (noise, sparks, etc.). On inspection it appears that C26 and C46 have exploded, although it's possible that C46 went bad sometime in the past.

Any ideas what caused this and how to fix it?

Old age....
Replace them and you'll be fine.

Had that happen to me on Fish Tales. Had not been powered up in years. Both caps blew up and caught fire. Scared the heck out of me. I cleaned up the board and replaced the caps. Can't tell you how nervous I was turning it on again. Flipped the power on and no fire, ran the sound diagnostics and all was good. Those tantalum capacitors make quite a show when they go.

Thanks for the replies. The new ones I see in catalogs look different from the old (the old are the shape and size of resistors). I assume that's no problem? Also, I have the same board in Bride of Pinbot. Should I be thinking of replacing caps just for safety?
