Hi,

my Funhouse is in a good shape, but since a week or so, she (!) looses all settings and resets to factory defaults. Of course I checked the AA-batteries but it is allright with them. What else could it be? Do I need a new mainboard?

Thanks for any advice...

Is there any corrosion or other damage to the battery holder or board? I've seen a lot of old battery holders where a terminal cracks up and falls off, even without acid damage.

#3 8 years ago

I would check continuity between the battery holder leads and the board.

#4 8 years ago

Actually, I changed one of the battery holders some time ago because the batteries acid leaked. I think, I will replace them all. I just want to make sure that there is no other possible source of error that could cause this loss of settings.

Thanks!

Number one, if you haven't already done so, relocate the battery off the MPU board.
Two, see: http://www.pinwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Williams_WPC#Settings_Not_Held_or_Battery_Depletes_Rapidly
for other possible reasons. Notably, D2 failure.

A great option is to replace the on board 6264 or 62256 RAM with an NVRAM.

Im having the same issue. To test for D2 failure i just set meter to regular beep test right?

#9 8 years ago

This one right? What reading should I look for? Thanks

Correct Diode is the line with the triangle.

#11 8 years ago

Beautiful. What reading should I get at D1 and D2?

#12 8 years ago

One is a 4148. About .5-.7 on that one.
The other is a 5817. About .3 on that one.
I think I have that listed in the PinWiki.

Well I did the diode test on battery holder and i have continuity. Did the same diode test on D1 and D2 and nothing. Tried it on a different set of diodes and nothing. Could I be doind this test wrong?

Does the holder continuity test tell me anything here?

Please help

#15 8 years ago

Yup. I'd say you didn't get it measured correctly. Black on one side of diode. Red on the other. Take a reading. Reverse the leads. Take a reading.

There are numerous diodes you can test to see if you are doing it right, on the driver board.

Man, I don't know what to do. I mean, I have the meter in diode test, placed the leads on both sides and got nothing on D1 and D2 or any other diode on that board. See picture of my meter please

I got continuity from black wire soldered on board to lamp holder connector as well as the red wire. Does this mean anything?

Post a pic of your probes in place. Get the meter reading in the pic.

So its not D1 or D2, its not the wires connected from the board to the battery holder. It must be the battery holder itself?

Or is there another test I should be doing? Thanks

#23 8 years ago

Acid test? My batteries are off the board. I still do this test? Thanks

#24 8 years ago

acid test: a conclusive test of the success or value of something.

#25 8 years ago

You mean the alkaline test! Just kidding.

Sorry guys i'm just learning here. Can someone tell me what the acid test is and how to perform it? Thanks

#28 8 years ago

Sorry If Frustrated any of you with my ignorance. Just barely trying to learn here. Thanks

#29 8 years ago

Found it on pinwiki. My question is set the meter at DC but where do I put the knob? At 20? Thanks

#30 8 years ago

I would imagine the 2/20/200 etc are just how many decimal points it's showing? So depending on the numbers you're looking for; tens/hundreds etc is what it should be set on. That's just a guess your meter is diff'rent than mine...but just get the reading, then change the 20 to 200 and see if that's the deal.

Make sure to read things multiple times and try them out on pinwiki...people are very helpful here but you don't want to burn them out! Most of us started out like you though
