I have come across a Funhouse that I viewed today. The cabinet is in very good condition and original with only a little fade, some of the paint on the back box is peeling a little. There was a bar added to cover the coinbox that is still there. It is VERY dirty but I can clean! The playfield has a little wear on a couple spots but it is minor and not very visible at all. There is mylar that is coming up badly in quite a few areas, it will need to be removed. The mylar does not seem to have pulled up any paint that I could see. Quite a few of the PF inserts have popped up so they will need to be knocked down.

Plastics are all in good order and it even comes with a few extra original extra plastics bits. The electronics and display seem fine and look good. Rudy's eyes are not working but the mouth is. A few other mechanical things need attention. Nothing that worrying there.

My main concerns are the mylar and inserts but it seems like they can be fixed without too much difficulty. The machine has had very light use for quite a while now sitting in a dark room but it is quite dirty.

Any thoughts on it and what sort of price looks fair? I plan to do the clean up and repair myself. I have never removed mylar before or pushed inserts back but think I can manage OK.

Any battery damage to the boards? I may be looking at buying one in a bit worse shape than you. Still haven't seen the machine yet, but I know the slings don't work at a minimum. I am unsure what a dirty partially working FH would fetch in this market...

#3 10 years ago

i would say around low 2000 maybe even less. if the pf is bad you can replace it. look at the ramps they crack all the time. but it sounds like you would be better off replacing the pf.

#4 10 years ago

I did not pull the boards to check the backs of them but they looked fine and most things work. It is playable. I know a new PF is an option but I would have a go at it first as it does look quite good except for the mylar. We have been talking about a price (less than 2) but I am curious about what others think.

#5 10 years ago

My experience has been that no one will take less than 2k on FH, regardless of condition. In the Midwest at least - they seem to be more rare around here. CA might be different, but I would think more expensive.

#6 10 years ago

$2600-$3000 for a router, $3200-$3500 for a player, $3800-4200 for redone condition.

#7 10 years ago

Overpriced, in my opinion . I would go$2250 for routed one.

#8 10 years ago

I think the mylar and inserts lifting is a big deal and you should negotiate the price accordingly. It's horrible to play when it's like this. Some people have removed the mylar easily and others have totally stuffed their playfield. I sold my Funhouse because of this exact problem. Rudy's eyes can be problematic also...best rip his face off and check what's causing the problem.

#9 10 years ago

I bought a cyclone thinking I was just gonna remove the mylar to expose a pristine playfield and did just that till I started trying to remove that sticky left over residue aaaaaaa NEVER AGAIN!!!!!

This makes me sad. Of all of the "A" list games that I will never own due to price, this one is moving into the range to where I will never own one, and it hurts the most.

#11 10 years ago

Sold mine several years back for 1100.50 It was in nice shape but I wanted a nicer one. Never found one! Still kicking myself for that stupid decision.

#12 10 years ago

The same day I sold my Funhouse I sold my Elvira and the party monsters I sold them to a friend and he does not want to part with them. Some day he will part with them and perhaps I will be there to retrieve them back. But I hope he does not want to get rich off of them.

#13 10 years ago

I paid $2900 a couple months ago for one that was in great shape. It hadn't been cleaned in 18 yrs, but it had been in a home environment and sat mostly untouched for the past 12 or so years. Cab was faded but the pf cleaned up nicely. I don't miss that $2900, I can tell you that. This was a game that haunted me as a kid and I'm happy to have found one in such shape.

#14 10 years ago

Had bought a FH last year in low 2ks. At the end had to replace all plastics, playfield, decals and ramps. Looks and plays great now. But u will end up spending more on restore than the pin.

#15 10 years ago

Also put powder coated blue legs they look really nice.

Do you have any pics of the legs.Sounds like a great idea.

#17 10 years ago

Ditto bladerunner. Would love to see pics of this resto.

#18 10 years ago

I am going to go look at it again just to make real sure about the mylar. Been reading up on it and I think if I take my time I can get it off OK. It will help that it is not sticking to the PF well, I suspect the PF may have been a bit dirty when it was applied. The whole central portion around the clock is coming up already. I may be able to leave the rest. Electronics, plastics and cabinet are good to excellent. I am now thinking worse case I could buy a new PF.

Also, on price I am not actually in California (used to live there but overseas now), I don't want to say where I am as I am trying to avoid competition. Right now we are talking about 1500 US but he has not confirmed yet. Best case I can get it looking and playing very good for less than 2k worse case might get up to 3500 but it certainly seems worth it.

I like the idea of the powder coat blue legs!

Good pics. I like the legs. Assuming I do get this mine will be going right next to my TZ. They look good together!

#23 10 years ago

Mylar is most likely raised over the clock from all the heat those bulbs create all so close together down there. Same reason those inserts pop up. I levelled my inserts and replaced bulbs with leds and all is good

#24 10 years ago

yzfguy that is what I like to hear! That is what I am hoping to do great to hear you have already done it!

#25 10 years ago

not bad compared to how it was when I got it...ball used to change course bouncing over the clock inserts!

The one I am looking at sounds like yours. Glad to see it came out OK. I am less worried now and just hoping the whole deal goes though... How did you get the inserts back down? Been reading up and I have been favoring the c clamp and hard wood approach.

#27 10 years ago

Make sure to keep us updated when you later look at it.

#28 10 years ago

Well he agreed to my offer (about US 1500) so all is good! I have not looked at it again so am going to have to rely on my first assessment. Worst case I get a new PF but it really was in quite good condition apart from the mylar around the clock which seems fairly common and fixable. I will just take it slow. He is delivering it on Sunday (nice guy!). I am really looking forward to the project! This will be my biggest restore yet.

Can't go wrong at that price! Great pickup, you can't hesitate with a Funhouse as they don't come up for sale very often anymore. I'm sure, if you take it really slow, you'll have success getting the mylar off the playfield.

When my mylar and inserts lifted around the clockface, I just gently tapped them back down without touching the mylar and they all went back into place. It played heaps better after that. You could always give that a go and leave the mylar where it is for a while.

#30 10 years ago

Raised inserts are not that big of a deal as noted. I use a little glue underneath when down, and leave something heavy on the PF while this dries.

Funhouse is a god of a machine. Not super deep, but doesn't have to be, as the play is outstanding.

I hated the look of the head before playing, as many do, and when offered one, turned it down several times over about a 5 month period until the deal was too good. Man on man did the first 10 min on this machine open my eyes...

I also have a RS as well, and I'm proud to say I have overcome my fear of creepy pinball heads altogether.

#31 10 years ago

Funny thing is, if your playfield is in fairly good condition and would make a good donor for a restoration, you could probably sell it here for a few hundred and use that money to offset buying a new playfield!

Congrats on the deal, too!

#32 10 years ago

Thought my old playfield was ok first, but when it came off, it was lipstick off a swine. If u gonna keep it go for a new one.

#33 10 years ago

Got it home today. The more I thought about it the more worried I got about the condition it kept seeming worse and worse as I waited to get it... Turned out it was quite good as I initially thought. I stripped the PF and did an initial clean. I got the mylar off fairly easily with almost no paint coming with it just a little black which is easily touched up. Getting the glue off is slow going though... I ordered a new ramp but that was not much. I will put up some pictures of before and after with the mylar later on.

#34 10 years ago

Good to hear. Parts for Rudy are hard to get, and the ones you will bet are not of very high quality.

FH is hard to keep up and running, but a lot of fun.

I have it all cleaned up now. The glue took a while. Some wear on the PF but really not all that bad the worst of it is not very visible. I got the inserts back down. I thought about a new PF but for now am going to hold off. I am not sure I want to put that much cash into it. I have everything working, just had to replace a solenoid, some lights, and one ramp. Still waiting for the parts but they will hopefully be here soon. Here is a before of the PF. The dirt here is how the whole thing looked.

I would only swap out the pf if you are really dead set on it. FH is a $%^& to do a PF swap on. My project took a full year.
