I have noticed a few times recently that in the middle of a seemingly normal game, the system will re-boot on its own. Its the exact same re-boot as if the power switch were quickly toggled. The it continues to play as normal. No other weird performance symptoms noted.

    Any ideas?

    Check pinwiki wpc resets.

Check the diodes on the flipper coils, if one has broken but still connected most the time it can cause this

If you're not skilled enough to fix it yourself I highly recommend Clive at Coin Op Cauldron. Resets are a common problem. He'll go over the whole board(s), take care of connectors, etc. He does the most thorough pcb repair of anyone I've ever dealt with.

Your 5v is dropping too low, as stated, pinwiki is your friend.

If you lack the skills, and want a cheap way to see if it is the 5v dropping out, buy a Kahr 5v board and see if it solves the problem. I love the thing, and consider it an essential tool on the tool box.

This was the problem with my PinBot machine. Replaced the entire unit with a new one and solved my restart issue. I should note the flipper was acting unusual and sort of flagged an issue with the flipper unit.

    Update on this.
I installed a friends Kahr 5v board and the 5V output is HIGHER than 5.6volts. So based on this, any idea what the solution is to the problem?

I guess I could leave the Kahr 5v board permanently installed, but I really want to address the root cause if possible. Then the Kahr 5v board could be an "icing on the cake" enhancement. What about the 5v regulator?

That board is just regulating a borrowed 5v unregulated 5v source on the driver board. This is great in a pinch, but not fixing the underlying problem. The wikis generally spray the 'replace the bridge rectifier mantra' that folks usually jump to. I would first start with the secondary connector power input to the driver board which has been the source of resets on 4 out of 4 of my games then work your way to the cpu input.

Rule number 1 is always follow the voltage.

ribbon cables, power connectors, lots of stuff you can check.
what is the voltage, is it resetting when you flip the flipper? any one flipper in particular?
