Need some advice on my next steps.

When I turn the game on a SB fuse immediately blows and the rear GI does not come on. I am able to power the section with an alternative power source so I don't think I have a shorting issue. if J120 and J121 are unplugged the fuse doesn't blow. I checked continuity on the power board and everything seems okay.

Is it possible Q14 is at fault? Not sure where to turn next.

do you have leds in the game? could be a bad led. take them all out in that string and see if fuse blows. then add them back one by one. should only be a handful or so of them.

Possible bad GI connector. Or male pins need to be cleaned. Worth a try checking connectors. John

There are 14 in all. I took out all the bulbs and put in three known good bulbs. Also, I was able to get the whole string to work off a 9v battery connected to the leads on the J121 plug.

Male pins look clean. Not sure what to look for on the bad connector front.

If the fuse doesn’t blow with j120 and 121 unplugged, that should mean it’s not a board issue and you have a short on the playfield somewhere. Are you sure every socket lit up off the battery? Which fuse is blowing? I am assuming it’s f106,7,8,9 or 10?

When you took the bulbs out with j120 and 121 plugged in, did the fuse still blow?

There is a common short on FH -

With the playfield up in service position the short is near the bottom. It is two lamp sockets that come very near one of the posts that is held in with a lock nut. If one of the sockets wires is bent just so, it will short out against that post's nut.

I can get you a picture later, but it is near the center and down in bottom of cabinet. So back by Rudy.

I know this because it kept shorting after I did a playfield swap. I ended up soaking the nut with a hot glue gun to avoid shorts.

Also connectors may be dis colored not making a good connection. I used very light sandpaper on the male pins with alcohol. Your situation could be different. What Eli said is something to also look into. J

This is a burnt GI. Your may not be this bad. Easy to fix with new Molex connector.

I filled every socket. F108 blows. This is the yellow string.

Here are the connectors. Look pretty good.

Think I know the place. I’ll check it when I get a chance. I do get everything to light with a battery though.

Connectors look good.

You need to look at the small exposed part of the pins (side that faces up once plugged in at J120/J121) in each of the 3 connector housings at J115, J120 and J121.

Also, you may have to remove the related fuse (within the 5 at the bottom left of the board) and test it/them with a meter.

Not sure how but issue is resolved. Can’t say if unplugging and replugging connectors did it or if poking around the sockets got rid of a short. Started with no bulbs and added one at a time.

Thanks to all for your advice. I learned a few things along the way which is always good.
