Never thought I'd actually be able to join the club, but it happened!!!! Found this right in my back yard. Needs a good shop job. GI connector is burned out but the boards look great with no damage. It's a re-import from the Netherlands (apparently) but has already been converted back to US outlets.

Quoted from provato:

I'd like the foreign (european) stickers and labels of this machine, if you ever decide to remove them

I will see what all is on there. I'm picking the game up tomorrow, so maybe there are some salvageable things.

Quoted from pudealee:

Good find pahuffman! I bought mine in Oxford, AL about a dozen years ago. I'm down 280. Good luck with your Funhouse! Looks like you scored a CV and TOM. Well done!

Nice to know there are at least a couple more in Birmingham!

I recently put the playfield back in my FunHouse after a shop job. Now I'm getting a notification that says "slam tilt switch stuck closed". I checked the one on the coin door and it's open. I unplugged it from the board below the left flipper and still the same issue. Is there one on the playfield somewhere? I looked and couldn't find one. If not, where else should I look to source this issue?

#606 6 years ago
Quoted from Sciddleybop1980:

I suspect a bad diode. Check every switch you replaced, desoldered etc.. And check the orientation of the diodes are correct. There's is some witch craft you can do to fault find the phantom switch but it blows my tiny little mind trying to understand it

That's certainly a possibility, but I didn't actually desolder anything. I just took it out of the cabinet for a shop out and put it back in a couple of weeks later.

Quoted from embryon:

It involved a board repair

I really hope it doesn't come to this. I've never repaired a board, though I'm sure I could do it if it's something simple.

Quoted from embryon:

Also there is a slam switch in the bottom of the cabinet to the left of the coin box (be sure to check that switch too).

I did not see this one in my game. It's not currently at my house, so I have limited time to work on it, but I did have time to check for this switch. Do they all have this?

#630 6 years ago
Quoted from embryon:

They should unless removed. Usually they are bent far apart to disable this function

Any way you can snag a quick picture so I know where to look? I only seem to have the slam tilt switch on the coin door.

Quoted from embryon:

sorry mate am currently moving house and game still packed away. I'll try to get a photo soon as should be unpacked in a week or so. Maybe someone else could shoot you a pic

Thanks! The game is at my parents' house currently so I don't have too much time to work anyway.

Quoted from embryon:

To issolate the problem, turn the game off and disconnect all the connectors from the bottom of the CPU board. Then turn the game back on. If the error is no longer shown, the problem is in the playfield or cabinet wiring/switches. If the error is still shown, the problem is in the CPU board itself. If the problem is on the CPU board, usually it's a problem with a ULN2803 or LM339 chip.

I tried this the other day and got "Check Fuse 114 and 115" when unplugged. I didn't have my multimeter with me, but they visually checked out. Any other ideas?

My FunHouse lock doesn't seem to be working. It only catches the ball about 20% of the time. The rest of the time just releases back to the upper flipper without stoppping. Is this due to the worn out disc assembly? It looks a little bent up but doesn't look completely blown out. Any remedies for this?

Sorry I don't have any pictures - the game is at my parents' house because of space issues.

Edit: After some research, I'll try readjusting the lock mech and see if I can get it to work properly. The spring may also be an issue. If not, I will get a new assembly for $20 from Bay Area Amusements.

Update! I was able to source the issue with my "Slam Tilt Stuck Closed" message. I pulled corresponding wire from the connector on the board under the left flipper and was able to get a game started right up! I found a couple of issues while play testing but nothing that can't be easily fixed. I'll be sure to post a picture of how the LEDs look when I get everything up and going appropriately. Work is slow because the game is at my parents' house at the moment.

I finally got around to doing a little play testing on my FunHouse the other day and came across a strange issue. The white pop bumper on the right is being activated when the upper-right inlane rollover switch is pressed. I didn't see any evidence of wires being crossed. I've seen strange things like this before on an older Bally and it was just connectors that needed to be repinned. Any ideas?

Quoted from lyonsden:

Sounds like a bad or missing blocking diode or missing.

I'm guessing that would be on a board somewhere?

I'm only getting lower playfield and backglass GI. Any ideas?

Quoted from Lermods:

Fuse(s) or connector. Have you checked anything?

I checked the fuses last night and they all passed. If I pull J120 all of the backglass GI goes out. I'm not an electronics guru or much good at reading schematics, so I figured I'd see if anyone with more knowledge could point me in the right direction. The only fuses I checked were the ones on the bottom left side of the driver board. Are those the correct ones?

Quoted from Stones:

Guys....Im just getting around to this. Im missing the spotlight by Rudy's face. It looks like i have a little bit of a chunk missing where the spotlight would go. I would like to put the spotlight back. How painful would this be? Im having troubles seeing where the wiring would go?

I'm also missing this light and looking to replace it. There's a molex connector on the underside of the playfield about halfway on the right side that goes to this light.

Alright I've narrowed my issues down to one row of switches (mostly). The highlighted yellow switches are being read in the Switch Edges test as the ones on the top row pointed to by the arrows. I've resat the wires on the connectors on J206 and J208. I've also resat the dedicated ground return (orange-yellow) on the connector there. If I remove the white-brown wire from the connector, then the white-yellow switches function normally. Should I be looking for a crossover somewhere under the playfield?

Been looking at it for a week and just figured it out. A switch was crossing over somewhere under the playfield...

My FunHouse isn't saving any information when the game is turned off. The batteries are new. Any ideas what's causing this? There isn't any corrosion on the board and everything else looks in check. Batteries fit tight too. It's a re-import, if that matters at all.

For those of you who are missing the lamp shade light from the ramp (so about 60% of us), I've found an easy alternative.

The no-solder light mod from PinballBulbs took about 10 minutes to install and was pretty darn easy - with one caveat. The bulbs that come with the kit are EXTREMELY bright. They are too bright, in fact. Replacing them with regular GI bulbs of your choice provides good light to an otherwise dark area. It's also about half the price of a lamp shade assembly... and that's if you can even find one. Here's a picture for reference after I replaced the provided bulbs with regular bulbs.

Quoted from pablotorres:

In what language is this FH???

It's in German. It was reimported to the States sometime before it got to me. I rescued it from a life of mold in a local guy's basement, but at least the price was right. For some reason the batteries just aren't holding settings, and the default is German. I'll look into fixing it one day, but for now I've learned at least learned a few German words!

#927 6 years ago
Quoted from PinballBulbs:

Ya, the new spotlight bulbs are insane. I agree they would be too bright for lighting Rudy's face. We have a step down with 4 SMD bulbs or even further with a single SMD. If you need anything less bright let me know and I can send something your way!

Thanks! I find myself constantly messing with lighting these days, but I will forever recommend these spotlight kits to everyone for pretty much any game. Here's how it looks as of today.

Can someone snag a picture of connector J134? There was one wire that came loose from mine and I can't find any reference to it in the manual. Anybody know what this connection is for? It doesn't seem to be affecting gameplay at all.

While I'm at it, what connector powers the start button? Mine's not flashing after a new bulb install and it's kinda annoying.

Seriously this start button thing is starting to piss me off. Can anyone tell me where I'm supposed to be looking? Bulb is brand new.
