Former lurkers, now proud new members! We're so thrilled to be in the cloob!

So we've had our Funhouse for a few days, and we've determined that Rudy's voice isn't as loud as it should be. After some research it turns out that we have a sound board out of an Addams Family in our machine.

47 (resized).jpg47 (resized).jpg

Apparently Addams Family has two resistors (R23 & R24) that use a 56K ohm resistors instead of 150K ohm resistors that are used on Funhouse. These two resistors control different channels of sound before they go through the amps on the sound board. I verified the color codes of the resistors and they're 56K Ohm.

A quick order to Amazon for $13 will get me a 900 pcs resistor kit that has the 150K that I need. As soon as it gets here I'll swap them out and report the result here.

Has anyone come across this before, and did swapping R23 & R24 correct it?

Thanks!

Quoted from DanQverymuch:

Yes, this has come up before, on RGP over 10 years ago. I tried posting a link but it wasn't working. When I went to RGP and searched for Funhouse resistors it was the first hit.
Boils down to, you already figured it out!

Result:

I can say that this worked brilliantly.

Removed both resistors:

Soldered in 2 new 150k ohm resistors. (Don't worry I flowed a little more solder in there, but didn't take a pic of it. I erred on the side of caution because I didn't want to apply too much heat and burn out a trace)

And it works!

I think what it actually did was lower the music volume to balance it better between Rudy and the music because when I powered up the game I noticed that the music level was lower than it just was while Rudy remained the same. Raising the volume a couple of clicks confirmed that Rudy was now not drowned out by the music.

A perfect fix for those that are using a sound board out of another game.

Quoted from CLEllison:

LED's ALWAYS photograph brighter than in real life. And if you;re going to LED a funhouse it's almost mandatory to install an LEDOCD and GIOCD boards.
If you don't you lose midnight multi ball dimming and the LED's on/off are harsh.

I wondering if it's worth getting the GIOCD board for 7 seconds of lights dimming...

Is there any other point in the game that would make it worth the expense?

The game looks great!

The battery holder.... not so much. I'd just do some preventative maintenance, and replace some of the caps on the boards to thwart future corrosion issues.

Just a basic shop job with new silicone rubbers, LED's, and whatever you like really.

I kinda like Rudy with his retinal attchaforia (one eye lookin' at ya... one eye lookin' for ya).

Can you tell me where this "beater" is?
Ill take it now.

They're out there. Just on Pinside alone about a dozen have sold in the $4k range.

We bought one of them, and definitely not a beater! lol

I wonder if you can just make one of those custom rubber stamps, and use it with white acrylic paint for those caps.

Quoted from Zablon:

So that would be a question to everyone.
Those who are going to get 2.0 are you going to deck it out with all the art? I only plan to use the code/displays.

Paul showed me the video on my lunch break and my jaw was dropped open in amazement and haven't stopped thinking of it since (He says the same for him!). I'm all in for everything but the backglass.. it's.. ok.. fits the theme for the 2.0, but I love the original. We'll have to get a good look at it if we'll swap it out.

Quoted from HereToStay:

More pictures would be helpful! My sound works but Rudy is drowned out by the music and other sounds. Since his voice is high compared to other tones in the soundtrack, I’m thinking the filter might help.

You probably have a sound board from another pin that uses different resistors to determine the volume of Rudy's voice.

Look at the links below.
