Guys, I could use some help here. When a lamp in column 8 is lit the adjacent lamp in column 7 also lights. I have checked the columns for a short but can't find any. When lamp 88 (star button) is removed the problem goes away. This led me to believe that maybe the diode for lamp 78 ( mirror multi ball) was bad. But when I reinstalled lamp 88 and removed lamp 78 the problem reappeared. I am not sure where to look next.

It has to be either a diode or a short. I don't have specific suggestions I'm afraid, except to keep gathering data until you puzzle it out. I had two rows in another game shorted together and it turned out a blob of molten solder had landed on a connector, shorting the pins together. I found it by unplugging various harnesses. Is it at the board? At the lamp? Elsewhere? And so on. Here's what my notes looked like after a couple of hours hunting. Good luck!
Just getting back to this. PROBLEM SOLVED. The start button lamp is on separate cabinet wiring from the rest of the lamps in both column 8 & row 8. The start button lamp had been our since I purchased the game several years ago and the problem was noticed when I put in a working bulb. It turns out the row 8 wire was connected to column 7 at J136 on the driver board. I moved it to J134 pin 9 and problem fixed.
