Quoted from Steve_in_Escalon:I recently picked up a 2003 LOTR with the original batteries still intact. One advantage of the cheap alkaline batteries that Stern installed, is they rarely leak. Mine were no exception. Had they used Duracell, I suspect there would have been some damage to the board.

What about Lithium batteries ? I've used those in a couple cases, as I was under the impression that they were far less likely to leak. This was based on a lot of experience with various remote controls and other devices, where I've had to deal with discharge from batteries left in too long or without enough use. Cleaning that mess up is not pretty, but generally not catastrophic either. Then again, it's usually not happening on a critical circuit board. Anyway, I've **never ever** had any lithium AA or AAA cells (EverReady, Duracell, Ray-O-Vac) leak, and I've gone through many cartons of them per year. If I ever had any good reason to doubt this for a pin, I would certainly move to those remote battery holders.
