Game - for sale

FS: HUO Monster Bash

Added: 2021-04-09 22:00:00 UTC • Re-listed: 3 times (August 20th, 2021) • Ended: September 16th, 2021
Condition: HUO - Undocumented (Home Used Only)

Price

$ 20,000

Now seems like a good time to re-list this one, as it won’t even be close to being the most obnoxious or outrageous
“Hold on to your nuts” for sale ad, and most of our esteemed Price Police force members currently have their own ridiculous ads up:

TL:DR - it's an HUO Monster Bash and I'm asking $20k OBO for it.

For those who enjoy the finest the written English language has to offer and have the patience, read on:

Here is a genuine, bona fide, authentic, Home Use Only (HUO) ORIGINAL Monster Bash pinball machine. For some, the remake is a fine substitute and facsimile, even though it doesn’t exactly play the same and doesn’t carry the obvious cache or trophy value of an original Monster Bash pinball machine. This opportunity is presented for the discriminating and resourceful collector of authentic high end investment pins, for whom a common remake simply won't do.

This machine was built toward the end of the run on February 2, 1999, and lived a quiet life in a mansion on Long Island, New York, ever since it was unboxed over 20 years ago, rarely touched or played. This game is near perfect in every way. It is also all original, except for the installation of a cliffy protector to preserve the near-perfect (by Monster Bash standards) center hole, leg cabinet protectors to prevent decal peeling, and a new flipper opto interruptor switch as the original was warped as often happened on these WPC-95 machines. I also replaced a few of the infamous sticky WPC-95 microswitches, and an opto that recently failed on the Drac board.

This game is simply in gorgeous original condition, and is one of the nicest original Monster Bash pinball machines on the entire planet, and possibly beyond. It has been gone over thoroughly by myself, a highly ranked competitive pinball player, and tweaked for optimum performance, and the gameplay experience can only be described as magnificent. Monster Bash is one of the greatest games ever built, and play one ball on this particular Bash and you will fall in love with this game all over again.

The only thing more joyous than looking at this fine specimen is playing it. It’s such an otherworldly pinball machine that after buying it you will experience a strange mixture of ecstasy and fear, knowing you may never again achieve such a high after acquiring a pinball machine. But as the years go by, your love and appreciation for this machine will only grow, along with the game’s value. And when you pass on to the great beyond, if you so wish, you may choose to be buried in it.

The rear hinge and backing plate for the electric cord are both included, they were removed for moving the game. Included also is a small sealed “goodie bag” with a key fob and various small pieces of hardware.

Open to reasonable cash offers for this game, not looking for a trade. Shipping via NAVL considered, or other arrangements you may want to make. I am unable to pallet and crate games at my facility so you will have to work around that. We can discuss the best way to protect the game on its journey, I will work with you to ensure peace of mind.

NOOB PIN ACTIVIST DISCLAIMER: though surely some of you didn’t make it this far and will still provide helpful bumps to this thread with your cunning detective work, I need to point out that the security hasp brackets on the front of this game (in perfect condition just like everything else) are original. This game left the factory with them, just like the other 3,360 other Monster Bash machines built by Williams in 1998 and 1999. The original, mint condition security hasp bar itself is also included with the game, providing extra security for the HUO, mint condition coin box if you should choose to route this magnificent machine, or just want to use the machine to protect any other smaller valuables in your care.

This is a special machine, and hopefully, it well end up with a collector of special tastes. Thanks for reading!

Quoted from thegamedoc:

It was 18k on the FB marketplace but maybe he's changed the dirty blue bumper pads since then. That would surely explain the price jump...

It was not 18k and I haven’t cleaned the pads.

Why do people make this stuff up?!

Quoted from BudManPinFan:

It sure is nice! Like you said, someone who appreciates the original HUO condition might be willing to shell out big bucks. But when you can get a Monster Bash LE remake for less than half that price, it’s too to justify.

The remakes are a decent facsimile and great for route operators but play wise they compare
Poorly for the originals.

Im really surprised people pay close to $10k for them when you can get originals for less. Even a beater original that’s been refurbished properly is going to play better than a remake. I don’t see why serious collectors would want a remake over an original, of any of these titles.

A big part of it is the flippers, which I will be happy to expound upon in a future thread. I had an original AFM and remake in my place side by side for a week this month and I’m eager to share my thoughts on these weird CGC flippers.

Let’s just say I’ve figured out why they ship them with that dumb short flipper stroke. Fix the stroke and it’s easy to see the weaknesses they are hiding. Soft wide shots like a spooky game, which is exactly why they ship with shallow flipper alignments and short strokes - makes the wide shots easy.

Quoted from Meri-cah:

Maybe it’s because Cuomo is legalizing pot and crazy smoked a huge cheech and Chong doobie!! LOL!!!

That’s a really good point!

Like all other New Yorkers, I had never smoked pot before 2 weeks ago but now it’s a nonstop ganjathon around here!

Let’s just say there’s a statewide twinkee shortage and suddenly nobody can remember anything.

Quoted from adol75:

I guess 10k new plus a flipper rebuild with original nos will do the trick. Still cheaper than 20k

It’s not the flipper parts, which appear to be Williams-style/compatible to me (not sure about the coils). It’s the system behind it.

There is no denying, that would still be cheaper than $20k though.

#38 3 years ago
Quoted from porkcarrot:

Now I'm curious about this. If the parts are the same, and if you put in the same coils, what is the issue? Is it not sending the same voltage? Is it a different amperage? And if so, how different are the numbers we are talking about here?

I don't have any knowledge of the tech aspects, but I've shared my general thoughts on this issue in ample detail in this thread:

Quoted from Haymaker:

trying to fund the purchase of a POTC? Perhaps the highly collectible and sought after collectible that will be the RAZA you missed out on?

I just like money. Isn’t that enough?

#47 3 years ago
Quoted from Grandnational007:

I would normally call you crazy(ier) Levi, but in these crazy times, I bet you'll get close to asking from a rich newb, or a collector looking for a nicer one than the one they currently have. Good luck with the sale, can't blame you for capitalizing on current circumstances.
[quoted image]

To be honest that's exactly fucking it. Like...I don't NEED the money, I don't even want it, and I don't even really want to sell it (though I guess it could help on the down payment now that we are considering buying an apartment in this depressed market.)

It's like, I just want to see if I can get on a crazy gravy train like everybody else and see if there's a buyer at the price on a unique and exquisite machine like this. I thought I'd have a 3 page price war thread come out of this but most people here are just like, "nice game, not for me."

I guess I missed the boat on that kind of outrage and excitement, people are just used to that by now. If I'd posted this 6 months ago it would have caused more of a stir.

I'm well aware I may have this game for years and that's cool, it bookends my South Wall nicely with AFM and it's truly the jewel of my current collection. To be honest I had more immediate interest in the barb wire when I put it up for sale! (Had it sold at $2500 but decided to hold on to it for now, it’s pretty popular at the world famous funtorium.)

Quoted from RTS:

It's just the market speaking. "Nice game, not for me at that price."

Goes without saying !

I’m sure I’d have lots of takers at 1200 bucks!

#51 3 years ago
Quoted from Daditude:

Price is everything. I learned that many years ago working for CiCi's pizza. People will buy ANYTHING if it's cheap enough.

At this point I'd remind all moneyed noobs and curious onlookers that "OBO" is in play...but yeah obviously "cheap" probably isn't in the discussion here.

#55 3 years ago
Quoted from EricHadley:

Is this still available?

Yes, as I’ve declined several full-offer buyers as I’m waiting for the right buyer to come along.

You just can’t sell a game like this to anybody. There is not a family for every pinball, nor a pinball for every family. I have rigorous standards for this game’s new home.

Are YOU the right family for this machine’s forever home?

Send an offer + references and let’s find out.

#59 3 years ago
Quoted from EricHadley:

I was planning to have myself buried in it. Is that ok?

Please read the original ad again for the answer!

I don’t like to repeat myself.

#63 3 years ago
Quoted from RTS:

Unlikely.
Post #47 is a clear admission by the seller that this is just a money grab based on other ridiculous asking prices.

Totally. I’m trying to grab money.

Unlike everybody else here who are selling pinball machines in exchange for butterflies and daffodils.

#65 3 years ago
Quoted from RTS:

How daft. People sell games for money, of course.
But it takes someone special to price a game way out of sync with the market value. GLWTS.

Market value?

What are the other HUO original Monster Bash games priced at?

Unbelievably this is still available. No longer looking for trades but I've slashed the asking price from Ludicrous to Ridiculous.

Quoted from Jrotten:

This is how a ad should be written. Guess you wouldn’t trade for 2 10k Earthshakers. Lol

Nah, Eartshaker kinda sucks even if it’s gussied up with backwards cabinet decals.

I was thinking 3 Bad Cats would do it!!

#91 2 years ago
Quoted from shlt_thunder:

If you consider it's potential use as a casket, you're really only paying like 16.5k. Also might come in handy if there were to be an earthquake, you could take refuge under it, so there's some extra added value there too.

I thought this all went without saying, but thanks for clearing it up for the slow kids in the class!

#94 2 years ago
Quoted from spikelou2:

Always thought crazy levi was one on the honest ones , that was in the hobby for the love not for the love of money ..

Why not both?

And to be fair I LOVE this Monster Bash. But I'd also sell it for a shitload of MONEY.

Surely you have a game or two like that, no?

#97 2 years ago
Quoted from gac:

If it doesn't sell for $15K, relist for $20K? Ahhh... pinside. GLWS

Let's just say the latest crop of FS sale threads have me inspired!

Besides, I woke up in the middle of the night and realized I'd be nuts to let this rare gem go for a measly $15K.

#100 2 years ago
Quoted from Zablon:

I don't understand why this is priced so low?? Is it filled with racoon poop?

I'm feeling generous and benevolent!

Not sure if it's the mini-stroke I had last night or this bottle of tequila I've been nursing all day, but I'm just feelin' the love around here lately.

Quoted from Bud:

Again….really?

I don’t understand why this is so hard for certain people to understand:

I will continue to list this game forever,
So if that buyer is out there, he or she will see it.

Maybe it sells, maybe it doesn’t. I do not care. It’s an awesome, gorgeous game that brings a smile to my face every time I see it, which is pretty much every day.

If it bothers you, please set me to “ignore” and you’ll never see the ad again. If this ad offends you in any way, that’s your problem, not mine. You should find another hobby where people don’t buy and sell expensive toys. I’ve sold dozens of games here on pinside and hundreds elsewhere, so I must be doing something right.

If you want to buy it, please procure $20,000 in large, unmarked bills and send me a message.

If you want something cheaper, I have a $500 Chicago Coin Cinema I really want gone and I’m taking offers on. There’s something for everybody in this hobby, which is why I will continue to try to sell this monster Bash for an obscene amount of money, while listing other games that I actually want to get rid of at much lower prices.

Thanks as always for the interest, understanding, and support!

#107 2 years ago
Quoted from TheLaw:

Why is this just being bumped again tonighty?
Thread is way old...what's the problem?

Friday night always brings out the drunks that have nothing better to do with their time than pick fights with a fellow hobbyist who is just trying to share the joy!

Gunnut should be around any second now...

#110 2 years ago
Quoted from spikelou2:

At 20,000 does it come with lube??

Wow that’s an original joke we’ve never heard before!

Yes it. Comes with lube. It’s a great deal!

I’ve never really understood it. It’s like, why do you need lube?

Do you think I’m trying to have sex with you? Do you think the game is trying to have sex with you?

Explain to me why including lube - which is super cheap, like $10 for the good stuff - would sweeten the deal for you.

I demand an answer! And remember, you are answering for the 65,726 other pinsiders who have made this identical joke over the years.

No pressure!

Quoted from RCA1:

Crap. All my large bills are marked.

Please launder them.

#115 2 years ago
Quoted from greeneye:

I may have missed something but is this the collectors edition that’s autographed by the band? If so, I’m interested. If not, most certainly not interested

For $20,000, it’s whatever you want to it be, big boy.

#118 2 years ago
Quoted from dsmoke1986:

Everybody is a f’n comedian on here…Pinside is trash now

Actually the problem is that almost nobody is a comedian. Everybody thinks they are funny, and very few people actually are.

See: “does it come with lube???”

#123 2 years ago
Quoted from RTS:

There is that.

Riding The Sack has been on my jock for years and refuses to detach his pitbull like deathgrip!!!

NO, I will not sell you this game for any price!! Stop asking!
