Hey all, .. I just finished cleaning up an extremely nice EK, that I'll be putting up on eBay in a few days, but I thought I'd show it here first, in case there's any interest. As you'll see in the photos, the game might have 100 plays (or a few more, or less even). Apparently, the game sat in the original owners gameroom for over 25 years, .. with little or no play,.. then another 15 in storage. It's all original, and is about as nice as you'll find. The electronics look to have never been worked on, and the displays all look to be in new condition as well. There is a few small scratches on the cabinet left side, which we touched up. The original manual and coin box are also missing.

Awesome machine.
I have to wait for the 1/2 price President's Day Sale.

#3 9 years ago

With the cabinet stencils remake back glass plastics and playfield have one built for less

#4 9 years ago

7 grand?? What? If you're gonna go high you might as well ask for (in my Dr. Evil voice) 1 meeellion dollars. Good Luck with the sale.

#5 9 years ago

Know a guy that would pay half that to $3500 but I hope you get the $7k!

#6 9 years ago

100 plays? Maybe, but it sat in unconditioned space, unless my eyes are deceiving me cause I see lots of sunken inserts and keystoning touchups. Dirt or air bubbles under the pop mylars too. Nice looking machine otherwise and GLWS.

#7 9 years ago

That is sweet! If I won the powerball last night, my attorney would be contacting you to buy it. GLWS

#8 9 years ago

beautiful machine, but can't see spending anywhere near that amount of money on an old machine like that.

#9 9 years ago

Looks fantastic. I don't know what it is about southern Indiana; but, there always seems to be a bunch of EK's that come up for sale in that part of the state.

The former public relations director for Kings Island told me many stories about her time spent with Evel escorting him around the Midwest as the ramped <pun intended> up publicity for his 1975 bus jump.

#10 9 years ago

WoW!! On my wish list but too $$$, what a beautiful example. Someone will be very happy.

#11 9 years ago

Now if it was the EM version

#12 9 years ago

Yep, it's always a 'crap-shoot' to try and price games. Supply/Demand, Condition, Rarity, ... etc .. but you gotta start somewhere. The Fire game we had, .. we thought it would sell at $4995., but ended up going to someones home for $3295.

You also know when you really screw up and give one away, ... price a game, ... then within 10 minutes, you have 30 emails from people wanting to paypal a deposit!

I'll never forget the 1st Medieval Madness we purchased at a SuperAuction in Columbus, OH I think,.. back 15 years ago. If you could find a MM, they went for $1800-2200 (as a comparison, TZs were selling for $1200), ... We got bid up to $3300 at the SuperAuction, ... everyone thought we were bonified Crazy, to the point of laughing at us. Well, 2 weeks later that same game sold on eBay, and the high bidder gave us $5700 for it.

You view that as a loss. I view it as a win/win. I was able to get rid of the game easily and the person who bought it is extremely happy. And I'm far from being a rich guy who has no concerns about money. And I'm ready to move onto my next game. Holding out for extra and having to deal with weeks and potentially months of tire kickers and mind changers is of no interest to me.

People with this philosophy are also the ones I buy from. I'm not interested in buying from someone who is trying to squeeze every last penny out of a deal.

neither am I, one tries to be fair, yet ya gotta make a livin'.

Beautiful game Allen! GLWTS

WOW! $$$ wife would kill me! Beautiful machine. Good luck!

#17 9 years ago

WOW indeed. I have never ever seen any EK close to this condition. That is a museum piece IMO.

hi all- just wondering what some of you think this machine is worth in the market.this not just another ek.never saw one in this shape un restored.does not matter if its a vintage toy.car or other collectable ,you pay more for an original example in this shape..only my guess but im thinking in the 4-4.5k range.dont want to start big debate as this just my guess..i could never bring myself to pull back the plunger on this one.to nice for our home arcade that see major play.iwe have over 12k plays on our ek so far..as far as cost who ever end up with this ek will get every penny of enjoyment im sure..good luck with this sale

#20 9 years ago

That is a very nice find. Excellent shape and good luck with sale!!!
I'm thinking fair market price though would be about half what your asking IMHO. Just because if I was in a market for a "like new" pin, (unless you are a die hard Evel Knievel collector) you could go with slightly used or NIB Stern for a lot less and it would be way more fun to play.

#21 9 years ago

thanks for the replies guys, ... yes, I imagine that the games value/worth will be somewhat less than my original asking price. Yet eBay is charging such high fees now, (10%-or more), ditto for paypal ....
if you want to get $4500 out of a game, .. then your eBay/Paypal price is gonna have to be $5500-$6000. ... can't win fer losing.

Allen

#22 9 years ago

It is a beautiful survivor and you can tell it only has a few plays on it from the condition of the apron near the ball trough. I have a HUO Star Trek, Harlem Globetrotters, Eight Ball Deluxe, and Rolling Stones from the same era in similar condition although not quite as nice. This is definitely the machine to have for someone looking for one of (if not the) nicest EK survivor on the planet.

Any good title from that era in that shape commands $4k - $4.5K these days.

The new games look and play like new and I bet Allen's pristine EK does likewise. People that like games from this era in this pristine original shape and that have new game cash to spend will pay close to new game pricing for a Classic game in pristine condition these days.

My pristine Flash Gordon we just finished just sold in that ball park:

"you could go with slightly used or NIB Stern for a lot less and it would be way more fun to play"

Instead of "you" substitute "I". Not everyone seeks pinball enjoyment the same way.

I for one would take this EK over a NIB Stern for longevity of fun factor as I like to play pristine Classic pin over new pin. I play them both but I'd be bored in a few months with the NIB Stern. Not so for the pristine Classic.

Wow! that's one nice Flash Gordon man!! and yep, games like these are still around ... just gotta hunt! ... which is the fun part! I have a Silverball Mania coming up as well,...not quite the condition of the EK, but it should turn out really nice. It's a fun "change of pace" to restore a few games like these!

take care

Auction should be closed by now ....
(ie, did not sell on eBay)

#32 9 years ago

hi all-not sure why this was pulled off...I did not pm seller on this as he said he wanted to put it up on ebay...I was the last high bidder..more than double the last bid you saw..so much for waiting till the end to contact seller about buying.why even put it up

If you go to his original posting of the E-Bay link you can still get to the original listing. It shows "12 bids" and if you click 12 bids you see the bidding history. Last bid was $1425.99 and the auction closed with the reserve not met. So just curious why he says he got close to the asking price as I thought that was $5K. But maybe I'm remembering a different EK.

#34 9 years ago

my last bid on this was 3200.00

#35 9 years ago

I've found that e-bay is just a form of advertising now. I've had that happen to me a couple times now. I've now joined everyone else. If I want it I don't bid. I just contact the seller on the side. Just another reason why e-bay is pointless.

He was asking $7K and also advised above he pulled it as it sold off e-bay.

#37 9 years ago

it seems like almost all large items on eBay are for sale locally as well which give the seller the right to cancel the auction at any time if they want.

Honestly if he was offered close to the 5K or whatever do you blame him for pulling it? I don't.

Don't blame him but his add also did not state it was for sale locally and would be pulled if sold. In my eyes, pulling it after bids were made without disclosing that it was for sale off of e-bay too is shady and of bad form. That's pinball vendors though so I'm not surprised.

#39 9 years ago

Oh, it was $7,000 he was asking. Last bid on E-Bay was $1,425.99, and belairjoe says he tried to slip $3,200 in at the last minute. E-Bay also says "Reserve Not Met." Looking like Treasurecove is speaking BS on getting "close to asking price." Just admit dude, you over priced it.

I cannot understand why someone wanted to pay $3,200 for it. That is bananas.

#41 9 years ago

I guess I might feel that way if I was seller...or buyer of this machine..but if your the guy that read this thread less than 24 hours ago say he will put on ebay then bid on it you might feel you wasted your time..how long was this even up? less than 8-hours..next time just put buy it now

no I did not put in 3200 at last second..i put in one bid at 3200 from the start..

#43 9 years ago

I just don't understand why treasurecove wants to claim he sold it for close to $7K when clearly he didn't. What's the point in being dishonest about it.

#44 9 years ago

Quick, someone buy this guy's $7,500 Gilligan's Island before someone else gets it!

#45 9 years ago

Those of you who don't think there's people willing to pay $7,000 or close to it for a mint condition popular vintage title are nuts.

I know a guy in Brooklyn - personally - who spent more than that getting an EK restored to better than new condish by HEP about 10 years ago. Close to $10K when all was said and done, and he wasn't afraid to say it.

DMD freaks always get butthurt when an old game sells for more than their TSPP is worth. It's like they take it personally.

You should have seen the RGP shitstorms back in the day when a Mermaid went for $15,000.

As far as thinking the seller is "shady" because he pulled his auction...without giving you advance notice that it was for sale locally (GASP!!!!) - that's just not fair. Every thing on ebay is for sale locally and everything on ebay will sell if the seller gets the right offer. It's been like that for 15 years. Ebay screws sellers so bad these days they have the right to do whatever they want if the right offer comes along.

Treasurecove has been in business, selling nice titles for top $$$ and keeping customers happy since before most of you whiners ever even logged on to a pinball forum. They've earned the benefit of the doubt, their quality reputation, and the high prices they get for their games, and charges of "shady" are absolutely ludicrous. And yeah they'll probably get close to their asking price for the Gilligan's Island too.

Did someone see a Mint condition game here? I didn't. Every single insert on this game is popped and all the main ones are cupped. Yes, this is normal on an old game but I would never call this mint. A great survivor though.

With a game this nice, every single tiny flaw gets blown way out of proportion. I had an HUO Pinbot...and it was crazy how you noticed the three tiny things wrong with it.

That's a gorgeous, freakishly nice EK and I think it qualifies as mint. Obviously it was nice enough for somebody.

#48 9 years ago

I think $3200 for the EK is a great deal.

If that were a Fathom, it would get 6-7k IMHO.

Not everyone in pinball cares about modern fan layout double ramp games.

#49 9 years ago

This is common practice on eBay whether he sold the item or not at 5-7K or not. It happens all of the time not just in pinball but in every category. I have bid on tons of items to have them canceled for no reason. He probably got maximum profit and did not have to pay eBay fees. If I were a prospective buyer I would be upset sure, but it is the sellers game in the end and if he got offered what he wanted the he had to sell it.

#50 9 years ago

While the eBay listing ended without meeting the reserve set for the listing, the game was sold to someone.

The buyer most likely contacted TreasureCove and together they worked out a price for the game. Once the deal was struck, the eBay listing was ended early.

Since the listing was not completed, it will not count as an eBay purchase. Once he ended the listing, the bids on eBay are useless.

Having seen plenty of buyers spend big money on original games in incredible condition, I do not doubt that TC got over $4.5K for this Evel Knieval. I was watching the auction, and I had plans to try and snipe it in $3,500-$3,800 range.

Having known Allen for close to 10 years, I do not doubt his word. If he says he sold it for X dollars, then I believe him.

My 0.02.

Marcus
