Game - for sale

FS: Demolition Man Project

Added: 2019-06-03 02:52:50 UTC • Ended: June 10th, 2019
Condition: Functional - needs major work

Price

$ 1,300

This is a project machine that was rescued from a hotel fire.

The playfield has no obvious signs of wear that I can spot, but is dirty and needs a shop job.

The game boots and flips, but it plays blind (no DMD) and without sound.

The backbox decals bubbled from the heat, and need to be replaced. The cabinet body is good, but with some fade.

Manuals included.

No legs.

Extras:
-New set of plastics: $200
-Full set of cabinet decals: $200
-NOS translite: $125
-New speaker panel plastic: $100
-Nice used speaker grills: $50
-New widebody playfield glass: $65
-Nice used DMD: $100
-Rear channel trim for playfield glass: $5

Pick up available or delivery to pintastic with a deposit. No shipping.

Note: because this was asked: the game did not catch fire. It was affected by the heat and smoke residue, but some cleaning, replacement decals, new parts, there would be little to no evidence of fire/smoke damage.

To far for me to buy and no space, but I'll give you a bump to ask... Pics or it didn't happen.

#3 4 years ago

I thought I had some photos before I put it away, but I actually didn't. I'll have to dig it out and take some, so photos will be forthcoming.

#4 4 years ago

And just to add:

The game did not catch fire. It was affected by the heat and smoke residue, but some cleaning, replacement backbox decals, and new parts, there would be little to no evidence of fire/heat/smoke damage.

I can include a brand new sheet of widebody playfield glass for $65.

#5 4 years ago

If this was near me I would buy it, projects are few and far between out here...

#6 4 years ago

GLWS; being a fan of 80-90's action movies this one is a temptation.

#7 4 years ago

Don't let this scare you.
I have a game that was in the same building as a fire, the head was dirty and the decals messed up but it cleaned up extremely nicely!
It had smoke residue but no smell.

#8 4 years ago

I'm tempted, and restored much worse.

#9 4 years ago

Photos posted.

The thumb buttons are dead, but replacements are available from PPS: http://www.planetarypinball.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Store_Code=PP&Screen=PROD&Category_Code=OS&Product_Code=PPS-20-9804-1

The right handle has the wrong screws.

Additionally:
Nice used speaker grills are available.

I can include a full set of cabinet decals for $200 (I forgot I had them).

#10 4 years ago

Ok, updated the price and separated out the extras. So, you can pick and choose what you want.

Much worse?
I've restored machines left for decades in open barns that were cleaner on the inside.
Thanks

Oh yeah, I'll see if I can dig them up (I really need to take more before and afters). There is no exaggeration on my part here. I've PM'd the OP here with an offer. If he accepts I would gladly post before and afters..

Cool. I will be stoked to see them. I was blown away with how enthusiastic you were about the machine. Almost made me forget what I was looking at. With the amount of soot thats inside that machine I would want to do a full tear down. The hope is that the PF has not been compromised in any way. I'm thinking you will have around a grand into it not including the purchase price and thats not counting any of your time or labor.

I too am intrigued and have taken on similar tasks before with good/great results.

Thanks
Blake

My FT was in much worse shape than this (mega termites and water damage) and came out looking better than new. Anybody can restore a old game, but ones like this are my favorite to do, just to compare before and after photos...

Agreed the WOW factor is certainly superior. As is the feeling of accomplishment. Your wife will hate you for a couple months though and your wallet will fit into your skinny jeans.

Thanks

My wife is usaually fine with it all....until she sees me heading to the dishwasher with a filthy wire harness, she hates that part

Yea I've transitioned most of my board cleaning to the sink.

I'd love to see eabundy restore this one to the same glory as the last one he did.

#19 4 years ago

Someone put down a deposit, so it looks like this is sold pending pick-up.

Thanks for the interest everyone

I'll probably have a couple more project games going up for sale soon.

I offered 1500 for the machine and parts. Figured it would take about 500 in parts and misc to bring back. Would restore and sell for about 2500 to 2800. Doing the labor / time for free. I like projects and the feeling when it's done and it looks and plays great. No big deal, congrats to the person that got it. I've got some other projects coming in now so those will now move up in the queue.
