I had two of these shipped to me from CPR. Both of them were gold grade and both had really poor clear around the inserts and some inserts were raised.
Great tip! Once the sun comes out again, I'll take some more pics. All of the inserts are as smooth as glass. I can't see or feel any transition between the inserts and playfield.

It still is better than my 34 year old playfield I have now
