Hi All -

I'm selling a pretty unique game. This specific machine was owned by the sound designer, John Hey, and was used for the development/testing of the production machine. Upon opening up the backbox, I noticed it was outfitted with all prototype WPC Boards. The game itself has all of the characteristics of a prototype/sample machine as well (different plastics, playfield differences, etc.). I have heard that prototype/sample versions of Jack*Bot have issues with the eye locks, where the ball tends to not seat properly in the saucers. After extensively playing this example, I have not noticed any issues with the lock. The game plays amazingly.

The machine is in superb condition, but I'm out of room and thinning the heard. It should be disclosed that there is a mark on the side of the cabinet above the left leg. This unfortunately happened when moving.

Pictures in the link below. As always, let me know if you have any questions or need any more detailed pictures.

Neat, but a 2k premium for wpc 95 boards will be interesting to see what it fetches. What version of the software is it running? Assuming its later, but they might have released it mid run and thus not updateable.

Thanks for the commentary. It’s in amazing shape and has a really neat provinance, so not really sure the only thing this game has is proto WPC boards. The game itself is a proto. I’m not sold on selling it, but this is the price I would let it go. Also, please link me a $2200 Jack Bot in fantastic shape. I would buy it today.

Eh, the more important aspect is how mint this thing looks! I’d bite if I had the space, great game.

This is pretty cool. Playfield looks pretty dimpled so it’s obviously low play. I like seeing stuff like this cause it shows that the b/w games dimpled too! Glwts

Fantastic shape. If you are looking for an example of this quality then money is not the issue. Thanks for sharing this, I remember being at the factory when these were being made.

This game also has the sample eye locks. So def a proto/sample. (The blue plastic and colored inserts are the giveaway).

Very cool to see this! I've heard of this, but never seen it. I would say this deserves a premium over other Jackbot's. Jackbot is a very underrated game, I love mine and won't ever sell it.

Those ROM's must be pretty rare too. The normal production games were the older WPC-S boardset, and this is WPC-95 boards.

Those would be my concern & the Security PIC too.

It looks awesome. I thought protos had an X in the serial #?

Mfg date is after most of the run... so maybe this was a test machine for when they switched over to WPC95. I wonder if there are any software or sound differences?

I think you have hit it right on the head; I feel this is a hybrid of a sample game madden with WPC95 boards in prep for the switch over much like there are Funhouse & Dr. Dude pins with WPC89 systems in them.

Some of the discussion is over my head, but a pinsider messages me with the below information which may help?

‘A couple people in your thread questioned that the roms/security chip might be rare or an issue. You might want to mention that the factory roms *should* work in both WPC-S and WPC-95 hardware versions. I'm pretty sure it was supported. I didn't work at WMS at the time, but I seem to remember asking some of the developers if that was the case. I do know that its the same security chip (game number 551) in both WPC-S and WPC-95 versions.’

Yeah but this is a sample with the sample eye locks...so it would have been done EARLY in the run, rather than late?

Unless they just had this laying around, didn't want to sell it with the rejecty eye locks, and used it as a WPC 95 test bed at the end of the (short) Jackbot run?

Weird!
