horsemeat?
if a person sees a machine sell for a higher price than they have been going for, that automatically becomes the new price...
however...
if a person sees a machine sell for a lower price than they have been going for, that's an aberration...
surprise, surprise... prices do go down, not just up... whoda thunk it?
This is what happens when something people buy levels out and goes down. People try to sell something and can't get what they want and say "these buyers don't know anything I will just keep it then!". Later on he will have to sell for less then the stupid guy who sold his for $3600.
It just happened in Real Estate. People listed their house to high - no takers. The guy down the street sells his home too low- what an idiot! Then a year later the home owner short sells his house for lower than the "idiot" sold his for a year earlier.
Pinball and Real Estate are different, but people's game rooms are getting full, people are asking higher prices on pins to raise money for the newer $8000 Sterns and $9000 WH2O's and the new guy coming in to the hobby is not going to pay $2400 for a "shopped" or "HUO" or "modded" or "collector quality" Taxi. He will buy an $750 Multicade instead.
It happens to all hobbies and pins will be one of them also. How much will it go down? I do not know, but if your pins did go down would the hobby still be fun?
We will see how this plays out by Christmas.
@pinnyheadhead...
since mine aren't worth a whole heckuva lot to begin with, yup, it would still be fun...
agreed on the rest... it is going to be a big cold dose of reality when people wake up one morning and realize that they can no longer get paid to participate in a hobby...
judging by "for sale" threads like this one (owner expressing disbelief that they can't get what they want for the machine, sometimes accompanied by anger as in this thread), other for sale threads advertising machines that used to sell immediately and now aren't moving, and the huge negative pushback stern is getting on stle pricing, i would imagine it is happening now, and i'd wager prices are gonna drop faster and farther than people think, as owners begin to panic and try to get out while they can without taking much of a beating...
when collectibles markets crash, they generally crash hard and fast, and the smaller the market is (and the pinball market really is tiny in the grand scheme of things), the harder and faster they crash...
to some it won't matter... but i'd wager there are more than a few who have justified paying what they have for a machine by thinking "i can always sell it in 6 months for more than i paid for it"...
After reading this thread, I don't think I would buy anything from the OP. There's just really no reason to get angry when participating in a group discussion. If you don't like what someone says, it's really easy to ignore them.
<Later on he will have to sell for less then the stupid guy who sold his for $3600. >
Why the name calling man? You think the guy didn't want more cash? No one was offering any more money!

Why the name calling man? You think the guy didn't want more cash? No one was offering any more money! You look like stupid for your remarks!!!
you might want to re-read that post you quoted and contextualize the statement...
This is what happens when you price police. You cant say "not to price police but....." then throw out numbers, that is still price policing. Maybe a PM would do. I have sent a few PMs stating a price is over/under and got verbally lashed. (A $7900 TAF on Klov with no mods, LEDs, or nothing)
Good Lord.
I own the RBION in question. Exceptional game, great condition, totally whored out now with mirror blades, LEDs, etc. I love it and it won't be leaving any time soon. Both parties were happy with the trade.
I also own a tricked out ACDC Pro with all the bling. That one won't be leaving unless I need money for cancer treatments or something. I have a small collection but I'm kind of proud of my games.
On topic, ACDC Pro is amazing, the Angus face is totally rad, and bacon rules.

Glad to hear your still enjoying it. I'm still enjoying TFLE- kicks my butt- but keeps me coming back for more. Maybe someday I will make it to roll out mode.

Ha! That's funny. Sorry I single handedly screwed up the pinball market. The pin bubble burst because of me! It's kinda weird, 3700 and no pms, 3600 and they burn up my email. I guess 100.00 makes a big difference. I should have kept it till dec. cause it will be xxxxx by Christmas, (face palm ). I think those days are long gone. Ed

Agreed on all counts, except the last. Bacon does not rule. Foie gras!!

the price of something is the price people are willing to pay... not every pin will go up in value infinitely
Oh wow another machine for sale thread killed by the price police lol
Well people might have there ideas and what one or a few machines have sold in the past. but in the end it is the ops machine and he is entitled to ask what he wants for it.
If people dont like the price push on is it realy that complicated?
This would be the last place Ide try to sell a pin lol.
Quoted from Hellfire:This would be the last place Ide try to sell a pin lol.
Oh, I don't know. I just sold two pins in less than 20 hours on here.

It's in the discussion forum. People made a comment on the price and the op decided to blow up about it. That was people's biggest issue. He couldn't take it in stride
Quoted from tamoore:Oh, I don't know. I just sold two pins in less than 20 hours on here.
Yeah,s ell mine on here frequently for decent pricing and they sell pretty quick as well!
Yeah well this has happened on other for sale threads as well.
Its still his machine and he has the right to ask what he wants for it. no reason for people to complain about his pricing just dont buy it if you dont think it fair. Its that simple realy.
Its not like the guy is asking thousands over the price of a new one lol

I went through the same situation a few months ago. I wanted to sell my Avengers Pro to make room for a Metallica Pro. I listed it on Pinside for what I thought was a very fair price. I even got the usual "great price", "if only I hadn't already ...." Not one person offered to buy. So a few days later I lowered the price. Still no one wanted to buy. I couldn't believe it. A few days later I lower it a third time. This time I finally sell it but only after being criticized by two or three people for driving the price down. What do you say - I tried to sell for a higher price but no one wanted it.

It's kind of concerning you were criticized by some people for driving the price down. It happens I suppose like it did on the 3600 ac/dc thread. In the corporate realm, that probably would be called "price fixing". lol.
People are freaking out because pinball is back to normal. Buy a game, own it and play it. Sell it and expect it will be worth less. This is shocking news to many.
There many more new games coming and tons of great ones released in the last 2 years. Time to have real expectations.
Edit: OMG I am becoming NEO : o

That would be called selling for what the market can bear

But real foie gras is getting more and more expensive...

I am with both you guys on this one, frankly I welcome prices going down, and guess what if you are in it for the love of pinball you should not care. Why?
It seems that all pins at least fall into what I will call a "price category" for example:
Right now I think we all would agree that High Speed, F-14 Tomcat, and Taxi are all around the same price. For example I bought my Taxi for 1,200$ (which I felt was a fair price in my area) and right now I could also buy a High Speed or an F-14 Tomcat for 1,200$ as well. Lets say in six months demand is WAY down and pin prices have fallen. Taxi is now a 800$ pin, no one wants them for 1,200$ anymore. As long as all machines in that same category have fallen as well I am totally fine with that. As long as I can trade my Taxi for a High Speed or something similar I will still be happy.
It should be the same with any pin, MM goes down to 6k so should AFM. As long as you are having fun and you can keep your collection fresh I say it should not matter. I have never looked at my pins as an investment, if I did I would trade them all for silver coins.
Quoted from o-din:Meanwhile the price of bacon remains stable
You're nuts. The price of bacon is going up. Even cheap bacon from the butcher is $5 a pound. The good stuff is around $7. Bacon is the Medieval Madness of meats.
Quoted from captainadam_21:Bacon is the Medieval Madness of meats.
my vote for quote of the week
Pinball machines are toys, not an investment vehicle. Whether or not pin prices going up or down is "good" is really a matter of personal perspective. With the price of new pins rising at ~8% a year, you should expect to see new pins in the 10K range in about 2-3 years. Now whether that will drag the price of older pins pins up with it or depress them while people are desperate to raise cash for the new Yadda LE is the question you should be asking.
As for the price anyone is advertising/selling any pin for on here... if you can find someone to buy it at that price, then good on ya.
Just my $0.02...
sold on eBay for $3950.01. final price $4000 cash no fees with ff speakers and shaker motor pending weekend pickup/payment.

Congrats
What u go name get next?
Quoted from IceCreamMan:Good job. I got in on the bidding late in the evening but the price difference between NIB and used wasn't enough for me to justify going any higher.
no prob. I was hoping the shaker and ff speakers would make a $3800-4200 price appealing to someone local when compared to NIB. bought by someone from Detroit.
