Quoted from highdef:

IMO, the prototypes at Expo were DV (Design Verification) units. The new units at Dutch Open will most likely be PV (Process Verification) units. This is the stage where they'll work out any manufacturing issues such as mechanical, electrical, tooling, quality, and assembly (of course, software will always be an ongoing, open item). At this point, they're done with Engineering. The next stage will be SOP (Start of Production).

The 5 pre-production units on the DPO are indeed what you could call Process Verification units. These 5 pre-pro's will be stress-tested during the DPO, where they will be setup and accesible to the audience to play them hard. All day long & well into the night. Their point is to find out if all mechanical/electrical work and redesign that took place during the last year is now up to par.
- If these machines are validated as OK after the DPO, these pre-production machines will be the same as production-machines.
- If technical issues might arise, these will be adapted/solved so that production machines will not have these issues. In this case, there might be a difference between pre-production & production machines.
- Software-updates will certainly follow. Check out BOP2.0 and you'll see what these guys cab do. So give them some time to work on the software and all will be fine.

The mechanical issues aren't ironed out yet?

They should be (and they probably are in a lab-setting), so for making 100% sure ... they are putting these 5 machines on the floor to take a weekend-long beating by pinballfans. This not only tests the machines, but also their manufacturing-process.

You're sure your name is not JackOfTrolls ?
