Alright, so this Pin*Bot was the first game I ever got and I hold it dear to me. It has always been a "players game" but I figured I'd try my hand at making it a little nicer. This is my first attempt at touching up a playfield so please bear with me

I keep a game at my parents house for them to enjoy and they had pin bot for awhile, then a coil got locked on and fried some stuff and so I figured while I was fixing it up I should go ahead and do a light restore on it.

My PinBot has the mylar, and I am not going to pull it and do all that jazz, but where the mylar ends the paint is showing some wear in several places.

The worst spot is the upper lane to the kick out and in the drain area under the flippers.

I am red/green, blue/purple, yellow/orange color blind so we will see how well my paint matches up haha. Basically I can't tell shades of colors apart. I'm not super concerned of a perfect match as I don't plan on getting rid of the game, but I want to help preserve the playfield and make it look nicer in my collection.

I've dug through a bunch of the restore threads and got some ideas on paint colors to match, etc. so I figured I'd document what I can if it helps anyone else in the future.

Parts to add/ things to do:
CPR Plastics set (had several broken plastics) Ordered when CPR had them in stock and just sat on them.
Pinbits Plastics protectors (to help prevent future broken plastics)
Titan competition rubbers (went with red/blue scheme)
Paint touch ups - right now using Folk Art acrylics found at Michaels
Buff mylar
Going to work with ryanwanger to add some Comet LED's to the GI. Gonna test a few options since he is local and a great guy to deal with.
I put some comet frosted cool white I had left over from a long time ago in the inserts, previously they had color matching leds. I think the white under the insert color looks better but thats just me.

Anyways here are some starting pictures. Did all the black last night. I think I am going to put sheets of mylar down over touch ups rather than try and clear certain areas but open to suggestions.

Cleaned the entire playfield with naphtha and a microfiber clothe. Then in areas where I want to touch up the paint I used 91% rubbing alcohol on it with a microfiber clothe. Finally, I used some 800 grit wet sandpaper with some novus 2 on the spots to put down paint.

Top lane after first pass with black, hoping to sharpen up some of it a bit more, especially the 25k insert, but this is what I did up top:20180114_170616 (resized).jpg20180114_170616 (resized).jpg

Hoping to try and mix the dark grey color tonight or tomorrow and move on.

I touched up with black spots in both inlanes as well as under the solar value left ramp and where the ball exits the shooter lane as well as the switch under the vortex ramp and near the flippers and where the ball enters the drain above the ball trough. I'll add some more photos later on.

Here is the grey.
I mixed Wrought Iron & Med Gray at 50% each on the first blotch.
It was a little dark so I added some Med Yellow. Would say it was 45%,45%, 5% med yellow.
I thought it looked pretty good on the plastic but its darker than the old paint under the mylar. Oh well, pretty good for a color blind fella

here is the light blue. This took me a long time to match. two different types of blue, then some yellow, some black, some white, etc etc etc. I could not duplicate this color if I had to haha. I used this blue under the left ramp as well as the left inlane as well lite blue (resized).jpglite blue (resized).jpg

Here is the dark blue. Still need to add the orange and yellow at the top then the white spots. After that going to redraw some of the black lines and hopefully will come out alright

Well, here is the top lane pretty much finished. added the orange, yellow, white and the off white. touched up the black lines a bit.
Should be able to finish up the paint in the rest of the areas soon.

Ryan from Comet let me test some different bulbs for the GI

I just placed an order with him and will get them on thursday at League.

Right now I have single led frosted cools in the inserts but am going to switch out with 2 smd cools that are clear bulb.

have the same 2 smd cools but frosted going into the GI
got some 2 smd red and ice blue for some color in certain spots. I'll have enough to do that whole game in blue/red if any wants to see it, but I think for maximum illumination of the playfield i want the whites. Ill put red in the pops and red and blue in the back under the left ramp/vortex ramp.

waiting on some mylar to cover my touch ups before reassemble. Cleaned all the blue and red posts yesterday.

need to buff the playfield mylar next but want to get the other mylar down first to protect the new paint.

So got the blubs last night, hopefully will be able to do some work today after real work Got some more mylar in yesterday as well so finish covering up my touchups.

I got this sparkle vinyl stuff from Hobby Lobby or Michaels, cant remember, and put it on as a sort of pinblade/mirror blade. Not sure if I am going to keep it but looks pretty cool with the white light shining on them. The blue or red lights the reflection is not as great looking and seems muddled. Note most of these bulbs in this are not the new ones I got from Comet/Ryan last night, I did this on wed night just messing around while waiting for stuff to come in.

Quoted from ryanwanger:

Almost looks like the scales of a rainbow trout (in a good way). Sell it as a Fish Tales mod!

cheap mod, its $10 bucks a roll lol. I dont have it permanently stuck on yet, just thought it might look cool haha

messed around on my lunch break with the bulbs, about to attach some photos of some different configurations

Here are the old sling plastics set over the sling bulbs with Blue and Red underneath. Was running late to get back to work so did not snap a pic with White under them.

Quoted from mrossman5:

Looks really good so far. Can't wait to see the finished project.

Thanks!

Here are some more touch up sections. Placed Mylar over them all last night. These photos were taken before I mylar'd but its what I have on my phone right now. I think I may have done a few black touchups after these pics, cant recall. Going to try to buff the main playfield area mylar this afternoon

Quoted from Mitch:

If you decide you ever want a new cpr playfield I have one I might part with.

Thanks for the offer!

Honestly this game plays pretty good and was my first machine ever. Although a CPR playfield would be awesome, I would rather spend that kind of money towards another machine

Here is the right inlane. Again, I think i did a bit more but took these pictures a few days ago. Was hard to match that white that has yellowed with age.
