Damn i'm getting excited been waiting for that Comet corkscrew ramp for sometime. Hopefully now the center ramp will also get taken up (wink wink)..

#2016 6 years ago

I prefer the orange one as well looks great!

#2062 6 years ago

Cannot wait to throw away my duct tape and gorilla glue held together one in the trash finally and replace it with that sweet new orange one.

#2067 6 years ago

Now that the corkscrew ramp for Comet is nearing completion is there any hope you will take on the cycle jump ramp for Comet?

#2073 6 years ago
Quoted from Freeplay40:

I'm thinking maybe yes. Need to scroll back through this post. Someone close to me has one I can take a look at. Generally I make my ramps out of either .118" or .150"...But I happen to have a couple sheets of .187"...basically 3/16" thick...hmmmmm

You can count me in and probably countless others in desperate need of the cycle jump ramp. Mine currently is held together with black electrical tape so it's really gonna look extra crappy when my bright and shiny orange corkscrew ramp shows up.

#2080 6 years ago

Hip hop hooray!!!! Cannot wait for a new one. Hell that one in the pic is 10 times better than the one i currently have i would even take that one at this point

#2110 6 years ago

I'm in for black or the smoked one. Either will be better than whats on there now cannot wait. I wonder what a yellow cycle jump ramp would look like?

#2115 6 years ago

Aww hell come on already stop teasing us!

#2124 6 years ago
Quoted from Freeplay40:

Looks like $80 for the transparent orange Cork Screw ramp and $65 for a clear. I won't be able to do the center ramp until I upgrade my heater. Had some requests for the Cycle Jump ramp so going to fast track that one.

Has the decision been made on what color the cycle jump ramp will be?

#2139 6 years ago

Hey Mark its been stated enough but family cannot be replaced. Thankfully with your dedication to all of our addiction to pinball the ramps can. I know we are all stoked that the comet will ride again on fresh new ramps. Super excited to be able to drop in a fresh orange corkscrew and a black cycle jump ramp. Hell when you eventually get to the comet center ramp my machine will be almost new again. Cannot thank you enough for helping all of us revitalize our machines.

#2145 6 years ago

That is good news we are inching closer to some sweet ass new ramps.

#2156 6 years ago

Oh boy im gonna feel like a little kid on Christmas morning when my package shows up.

#2204 5 years ago

Do we get to see any finished product pick yet?

#2216 5 years ago

Oh hell yes its getting exciting now for sure! All I can say is i'm glad I own this game already otherwise i'd be scrambling to find one after all this hype. Mark i would definitely prefer to go with kydex for my cucle jump ramp.

#2221 5 years ago

Hey Mark I don't want you to have to eat the cost of making all the rest of us a much needed part. If it takes another $10 or $15 to make sure you are compensated for all your hard work so be it. The cycle jump ramp gets the hell beat out of it so if I can get one made of kydex for a little more $$$ ghen i'm in.

1 week later
#2235 5 years ago

Looking really good. The kydex should be bulletproof

#2240 5 years ago

Bad news about losing 1 of your molds for sure. You said will be about a 10 day setback to cast another mold but then will that new mold allow you to cast both versions of the ramp? Sorry if this sounds ignorant but wasn't sure if 1 mold was for the kydex and 1 was for the abs or if the molds were interchangeable. Either way i'm sure glad you don't have to start all the way over by having that 2nd mold otherwise could have been a much bigger setback.

#2243 5 years ago
Quoted from toyotaboy:

Typically you buy sheet stock for the size of your vacuum, so to prevent waste (especially with a higher priced kydex) you want to maximize how many parts you get out of each sheet. You could cut it down, but doing one part at a time sucks for cycle time. I'm guessing he wants to spend the least amount of time forming parts.

Ahhh... Good to know a little better how the whole process works. Just glad it wasn't a total loss and will just be a small speed bump on the road to our new ramps.

#2252 5 years ago

They both look great but in my book the kydex sure seems like an all out winner.

#2271 5 years ago

Mark are the plans in the works to upgrade your heater so we can move on to have you make the Comet center ramp?

#2294 5 years ago

Ramps showed up today and look awesome! I can't thank you enough Mark for your hard work and dedication. Now when drscottsmith gets my overlay project finished its gonna look like its fresh off the showroom floor.

Don't have a whole lot of faith in much of anything larry says. He told me 3 months ago the new boulder sets for white water would be out in 2 weeks. After 3 weeks they still weren't up on starship fantasy I emailed him and again he told me 2 weeks. Here we are 2 months later and still no new boulder sets. Moral of the story here is that Mark you should make the WCS ramps and make some money. I don't even have that game but I do know the ones for my comet look fantastic. Hell at least we know that once you say your gonna make something then we end up with new ramps on time!

#2442 5 years ago

We are in the Caution sign gang. Keep checking back as we will be accepting new members very soon. lol!

1 month later
#2546 5 years ago

Not to sure I would believe there is anything coming from starship fantasy. Larry told me about 3 months ago that the new boulder sets for white water would be for sale in 3 weeks. Here we are over 2 months later with NO new boulder sets. Just saying!

#2558 5 years ago
Quoted from Freeplay40:

Correct. Forming machine can handle it but I need to complete the larger heater. Space Shuttle will be one of the first ones I do.

Ok Mark don't forget about the main center ramp for Comet when you get that heater done on the new setup. The cycle jump and corkscrew ramps look amazing and are anxiously awaiting their new big brother Comet center ramp!

A little help for my friends...Pinsider wanted a High Speed clear ramp but was missing the large curved entry bracket. Couldn't find one so I made him one.
[quoted image]

Awesome job Mark. You always come up huge for all of us silly ass pinheads.

#2811 5 years ago
Quoted from Freeplay40:

It's not so much that... Would be just something else I'd have to spend a lot of time on and maybe 1 in 10 would actually make something. I figured out how to make these from the internet and I think I have a pretty good mechanical aptitude. I'm retired and devote a lot of time towards making ramps and believe me it takes a lot of time....that's why no one else does it. If you can figure out how to repair pinballs you can figure out how to vacuum form. In Pinball's glory days, Williams/Bally was contracting out ramps by the many thousands. These days, the demand is much less so contracting any of it out really only works with high volume expectations...this is Starship's arena. I can do the smaller runs since I do everything from making the molds to finishing. I'd no doubt make more money doing the high volume expectation ramps, but we have Larry for those. Between him and me we just need to keep bringing more ramps. Since my health issues over the last couple years I will admit I've slowed down on the new ramps. I really enjoy making ramps....just don't want it to kill me.
I really only market or present my stuff here on Pinside...some think I may only be reaching 5%-10% of the whole community...but I'm comfortable here. I'd be nothing without the support I have gotten here on Pinside. It's what keeps me going...You guys sell more ramps than I do with your posts and photos and word of mouth... Greatly appreciated. Much of my business recently has been with people who just joined Pinside to find me...I've seen guys who joined as little as 15 minutes before messaging me.
I'm working on Black Belt and Transporter next...these are favors to the community, because if I don't do them no one else ever will...I'll be lucky to sell 10 of the Black Belt ramps and I don't expect to sell very many of the Transporter ramps.
I built my own vacuum forming machine and have modified it over time. Really need to get to the new one which will have zoned heating and pneumatic operation both from below and above. You can buy a machine for about $5k-$7k that will work, but not for everything as they are not set up to do plugging from above.... oh and BTW... the actual forming is the easiest part! Vacuum forming is not rocket science...however expect a great deal of trial and error. Early on I had one hell of a time figuring out how best to do the ramps for Genesis. I lost count of how many trials I threw away, but it was close to 100.
So here we are at 2019..My hopes for this year...accelerate new ramps and oh yeah, get the new heater done so I can make the Comet center ramp!
Happy New Year everybody and thanks for your support!
Mark

I'm sure I speak for most all of us who have your ramps in our games when I say Thank You Mark. It was truly great news when you announced the corkscrew and cycle jump ramps for comet. I felt like a little kid on Christmas when my box showed up with those 2 beautiful ramps in it. If someone such as yourself didn't take the initiative then so many of us would be shit out of luck on many of these old games. So again thank you so much for your dedication and hard work in keeping these old games alive.

Hey Mark with your current setul are you able to reproduce the rocky and bullwinkle center ramp?

Quoted from lrosent345:

I just finished the whirlwind lift ramp. It should be available some time next week.

Larry please focus on the white water boulder sets. Far more people need that than the whirlwind lift ramp. Hell i plan on buying 2 sets myself.

About a week ago I saw a post by Dayhuff……
"Looking for the acrylic part # 03-10008 that catches the ball in RFM. Mine is broken and makes the game unplayable. I'll take new or used as long as it's in good condition. HELP!!"
If I see something that I think I can pretty easily help with, I like to try. I asked John to send me the pieces he had from the broken RFM ball catcher and I would try to make him a replacement. I think this will work for him...[quoted image]

Great job Mark. I love the initiative you took there and I am certain yoy just made his day!!

#3036 5 years ago

Now now boys and girls when Mark gets that new heater done the center ramp for Comet will be its first assignment. Cannot wait for that. When this happens Mark will that include the ramp flap and the sticker?

#3040 5 years ago
Quoted from Freeplay40:

Nice try... Actually as we get closer I will try to work something out with Planetary. I did check Bay Area Amusements' site and they do show the decal, but out of stock.....So I would assume the artwork is available.

Well you cant blame a guy for trying

Can't we all just get along? I get it nobody wants their personal thread imposed upon. Bottom line is this ultimately benefits the community as a whole. Should he have consulted Mark first, u bet. However, at the end of the day more people will be able to bring their machines back to life and that should make everyone happy. Even people who have games that Mark currently isn't making ramps for check in on this thread. I don't feel it was out of line to present more options and let's not forget it wasn't even him who posted the info about his ramps. Everyone take a step back and a big deep breath.......... exhale. Congratulations pinball community we all now have more options chill out!! Mark keep up the great work we all have come to expect!

#3060 5 years ago
Quoted from Ericpinballfan:

Back to requests and talks of new bigger heater.
When is that Godzilla Ramp getting done?

Agreed!!
Mark when the new heater gets finished and the new Comet center ramp rolls off the assembly line any thought on the 2nd ramp? Have you ever considered or had requests for the left ramp on monopoly?

#3064 5 years ago
Quoted from Ericpinballfan:

The High Speed upper may have looked good in green. I just picked up a High Speed and they put your red in, Fantastic!
Other thoughts. Hurricane center may have looked good in green.

I was hoping for the big apron sweep ramp on Hurricane. (Green might look good), My middle mark ramp is lonely.
Lets not forget Black Rose ramps.

I know that big hurricane ramp would definitely benefit a lot of people so that would be cool also.

I promised Pinsider alpha70 that I would do another run of Guns 'n Roses this Spring. I posted a note in the GnR club thread but thought I should post here too. In the next two weeks I will do one last run of the GnR ramps.
G ramp includes entrance flap and exit bracket. Does not include decal. Trap door mechanism would need to be transferred from the old ramp to the new ramp. Price $155 Note on the main decal. I was able to easily remove the decal with Goo Gone and then re-glue to the new ramp.
R ramps is complete. New entrance flap, new switch bracket, new exit bracket and new Lexan cover. Price is $125
If interested in one or both, let me know and I will add you to the list.[quoted image]

Makes me wish I had a G and R. Mark those look amazing! Great work as usual.

Quoted from lrosent345:

I have most of the original Williams molds. Most are made of Aluminum or cast aluminum and are water cooled. Marc can make a mold for far less cost than mailing my monsters up and back.

Larry how much longer (and please do not say 2-4 weeks because that statements been made for over a year) do we have to wait for the new boulder set for white water? You have countless people who DESPERATELY need these and you are the only one who can make these.

3 months later
#3497 4 years ago

I wish you all would leave Mark alone for a while. He needs to focus all of his attention on getting that new larger heater built so he can then focus on the center ramp for Comet.

#3514 4 years ago
Quoted from radium:

I’m more excited about the new heater than anything else in the universe.

You are? Hell i'm so anxious I started a Gofundme page on Marks behalf to raise cash for the heater and a team of technicians to assemble it while Mark finishes up the mold for the Comet center ramp!

#3527 4 years ago
Quoted from freddy:

Mike some of these? Please [quoted image]

Is that from Congo?

#3785 4 years ago
Quoted from Freeplay40:

Local friend is the maker of those. They should be available soon.

Really Mark? That's like asking a crackhead if they could use a fix and then when they say hell yeah you tell them to find someone who sells that stuff

The Comet center ramp is the first one I will do..

Gathering up tools and booking a flight as we speak so I can come out and help you get this new heater up and running!

Ok 20 days and no activity on this thread is unheard of. Mark is everything ok or have you just been consumed with that new heater?

6 months later
#4202 3 years ago
Quoted from JodyG:

I am sure its possible, but CNC cutting a ramp mold would be very costly. You would need to sell hundreds of them to get your money back.

Unless he is volunteering time to that

Quoted from chuckcasey:

Same question here, we need a center ramp. One of our Comets is unplayable until we find a center ramp.
Thanks!

If memory serves I recall Mark saying the Comet center ramp would be the 1st project he does on the new heater.

Mark do you still have me down for the Comet center ramp?
